I have tried running some games I got from a friend in MS-DOS, as they didn't support Windows. The problem is that, for games which require pure MS-DOS and use the mouse, when I boot in MS-DOS and start the game, the mouse cursor does not move. It happened to me in Ace of The Deep and Wing Commander: Privateer. Thanks.

NOTE: Do not tell me to use DOSBox, as I can't even start it on my machine and the speed would be very low for me.

You're sure you've loaded a working mouse driver (MOUSE.COM or something similar) in your autoexec.bat?

Are you using an USB mouse (I'm not sure for the PS2 port mice), because I think that may be the problem. It could be that your DOS doesn't recognise the mouse at all.

@Reup: How do I do that ? I've got the file "mouse.com" for my A4 Tech mouse.

simply first you need a driver for your mouse (you can get one which takes up small memory space here on abandonia). It will be a file named mouse.com (or .exe) possibly accompanied by other files.

Then you open your autoexec.bat file with a text editor. if oyu have windows that will be notepad, while DOS had "edit" program so you would type in Edit autoexec.bat

Anyway once you open the file you simply add mouse.com in last line (or mouse.exe depends on your driver). and save the file.

This will basically give your computer a command that it should launch your mouse driver when it boots in dos.

A simpler way would be to create a boot disk like the one on abandonia, who should (i think) install the mouse driver as well.

Anyway i would have to check my autoexec.bat config on this issue to be more precise, so let us know if you are still having troubles with mouse.

Simply add the line:

MOUSE.COM

to your autoexec.bat (you could also use LH MOUSE.COM is you've loaded himem.sys first).

Now that I have mouse.com and know that I need to edit autoexec.bat, there is a small problem.

What should I edit ? .bat or .tsh ?

Try to run autoexec.tsh in Dos and you'll see if it works.

I'll try editing .bat, and if it doesn't work I'll edit .tsh.

Well, when you change the Autoxec the old file (in case you wish to return to the previous setting) is saved with a different ending. The Autoexec.bat is the one that is used by the computer to set up DOS and the other one is a backup copy of your previous file.
