Need RPG Reviews

Hi, I'm the editor of the CRPG Book Project (www.crpgbook.wordpress.com), a non-profit, crowd-sourced book on the history of Computer Role-Playing Games being written since 2014.

Our latest release is a 350-pages long e-book, covering almost 200 CRPGs, and it's entirely written by fans, devs, journos, modders, indies and industry personalities like Chris Avellone, Ian Frazier, Warren Spector and former-CGW Scorpia, among others.

You can freely download it HERE

However, to finish the book we need help from the RPG community. There are still many games - like Akalabeth, Stonekeep, Might & Magic III, Freedom Force, Questron, Evil islands, etc - that needs reviewing (full list HERE).

Anyone here willing to help? And sorry if I posted this on the wrong sub-forum.

Hello, felipepepe.

Actually, I seen your advertisement year or more ago, and tried to wrote you about wrong/non-exact reviews... but never got an answer.

I, personally, is not very proficient in English, as I am Russian, but I can try to help you, proven that someone will edit my ramblings. :) Will you?
...
Additionally, "Sorry, the file you have requested does not exist." says Google. So no full list.

That's odd, I reply all the e-mails I get, especially if it's one with criticism / suggestions.

And sure, it would be great to have more help! I can edit, and we have some proofreaders who check things whenever they have time.

I've updated the list link, take a look and tell me if there's any unassigned (white) game you could write a review for. :)

Well, maybe it's my public e-mails then. I had my main addresses on mail.ru and qip.ru, and they got mass-blocked by western mail routers in last five years or so, so I had to migrate to gmail.com. :) I'll try more then. :)

Dear felipepepe,
CRPG Book Project is great project.
I like it very much.
As many mates know I am not big specialist in
RPG area with my poor 70 passed games.
The real RPG giants for me are
KMonster,
Scatty,
Capo,
SS.
Anyway I want to make one very polite note and do
not want to offend anyone:
1. Change Return to Antara with Betrayal at Krondor
2. Remove Skyrim

:OK:

I can write something about child of light, might & magic X and deus ex maybe.
But how much text do you need, what kind of review do you need ?

Smiling Spectre 23-08-2016 08:17 PM

Capo, there is number of page in list - I believe, it's amount of text required. Book linked above will give you good image of what is required, I think.

felipepepe, I sent you mail with list of corrections and suggestions. I am not very good in _writing_, but I can review some games too. Oh, and M&M10 too (hmm, either I missed it from the list, or it's assigned already?).

Oh, and I totally forgot to mention Elminage Gothic. I totally can review this strange Japanese Wizardry clone. :)

Smiling Spectre, got your e-mails this time, gonna reply them ASAP.

1 page reviews are about 2,500 characters long, 2 page reviews are 5,000 characters.

There isn't a strict style guide, the only "rule" is that someone who never heard about the game before can read the text and understand how it plays and why it's an interesting title. You can add historical context, development trivia, personal experience and anything that helps get the point across.

Deus Ex already got reviewed, if you could write 2,500 characters on M&M X that would be great. :)

Will work on it asap, but it may take some time :OK:

Looking at the list, I see that Space Rogue isn't assigned. I wrote the review for it on Abandonia, as well as a walkthrough for it on Abandonia and GameFAQs, and have dug into the game files a bit. I should be able to write something about it.

Is the book intended to be a comprehensive compendium of cRPG games? There are plenty of games that don't seem to be included in the list, like Curse of the Azure Bonds. I don't know if you had particular criteria in mind in determining the list of games to be reviewed.
