Looking for an old Space Fighters game
 

Hello I am looking for an old game I saw but never got to play it:

-It was a two player game
-On the same computer
-There where several space fighters to choose from (different species). Each with its different characteristics (weapons, speed, etc)
-It looked like Space Asteroids but the objective was to shoot the other player down.

Can you help?
Does it sound familiar?

Sounds like Star Control 1, or Super Melee in Star Control II to me :)
