vmware issues

Hi Guys and Gals

I've got a question

I'm helping a friend, She installed Vmware Player 3.1.1 with Win98se as guest Os with tools installed.

She's trying to get Roller Coaster Tycoon, and NFS:HS running (NFS tried with Cd and NoCD patch).

Both Install but as soon as it is launched it gives a black screen for a second or two (as if it's loading, it access the CD) but then return to the desktop.

My questions
A) Is this possible?
B) if it is possible, what needs to be done

does your friend have the fitting direct-x version installed?

for rollercoster tycoon she needs directx 5.
for nsf:hs she needs dx7.

might be tricky to get both games running on the same machine

so my suggestion:

1. copy your existing vm
2. on vm1(rc tycoon) you install dx5
3. on vm2(nfs) you install dx7

if it's not working try win95b. imo it's the same to se like xp is to vista ;)

For me personally, I found Microsoft Virtual PC to be better when running Windows 98SE. I've tried to run Mechwarrior 3 in VMWare player and it would always crash out on me, even when I turn off the 3d accelerated graphics in the game options. (Graphics tend to be a problem for most games in Virtual Machines)

VMWare Player seems to be better for running newer operating systems like Windows XP and Windows 2000. I've managed to get games like Sonic R and Mechwarrior 3 (with some flaws) running on a Windows 2000 machine in VMWare Player.
