"Midway is about to die"

Yes, Midway is heading for bankrupt. Probably because their latest games hasnt been any cash jackpots, not to mention that most of them are missing the quality.

If you cant remember, Midway's one of old-timers in game industry. From the arcade scene to today's dark times. If you still cant remember, they did stuff like Gauntlet, Rampage, Spy hunter, Super Sprint, Smash TV and most importantly, Mortal Kombat series.

OMFG NO!!!!

They stopped releasing MK series to PC - that is the reason!

meh. midway haven't released any really good games for a while now and in the end, if it's their time to go, it's their time to go.

And that's when the vultures begin to circle... *rubs his hands gleefully*

If the company dies, do we got more Abandon-ware titles?

Midway is an ESA core-member. 15 years of protection would fall.

Even if they go out, their assets (copyrights included) would end in someone's hands, wouldn't they?

TheChosen 08-12-2008 02:00 PM

Probably. Im pretty sure many company would be interested in acquiring the Mortal Kombat license.

Midway still released a few decent PC games in the 90s but from then on, it went down pretty quickly.

Midway really held on to its older glories it seems and didn't really try anything new. Looking at the releases of the past few years, most were older re-releases of Unreal or Mortal Kombat, or they were pretty crappy games/cheap cash ins. Gauntlet Seven Sorrows, LA Rush, Robotron 2084, etc.

Ah well, it's still sad to see them move out of the market. There's too many companies going under right now. The whole gaming industry seems to complain about piracy yet none seem to understand the reason for it. It's like a chauvenist jerk complaining that girls keep slapping him in the face.

Once publishers start to treat gamers like gamers and not as dollar signs, maybe people will start having a bit of respect again and maybe companies like these wouldn't go under if they weren't so cynically treating their customers.
