:sos:

I have a problem with all rar/zip files on my PC. I can't unpack them!
Every time I try unpacking a file I got a message: file is corrupted.
I've tried reinstalling both winzip and winrar, didn't help.
I am using Winzip 11.0, but have the same issue in version 9.0, I use XP, 1GB RAM, Pentium 4 520

any idea what to do? I am sort of desperate...

Did you recently install the v11.0? Have you tried any of the corrupted-zips-fixes out there? You could try it on one backed up zip and see if it works.

I've tried, didn't work

There doesn't seem to be any known issues with the v11.0, as far as I can gather. Have you tried to export one of them zips to another computer to see if it's the files that are corrupted and not something with your pc?

no, good point.
although I've scanned the whole system with Panda and Norton, everything seems to be fine.

Point is also, it isn't nesseccarily a virus. It could be the Winzip messed up something in, I don't know, the register or whatever. So maybe another computer would allow you to unzip them, in which case the zips are fine

try to use the built-in zip manager (or whatever to call it) in Total Commander.
If the archive is not corrupted it always works for me.

still nothing, and the zips/rars work well on another PC.
I guess reinstaling the system will be the cure...

Have you tried one of them registry fix programs? Just make sure it's a good one and not a crappy one that will mess up your computer

EDIT: What about your free HDD space? Much left?

I'd try different packing programs. Try WinRAR or TugZip.

Maybe it's sort of an "translation"-problem. Probably the other programs can handle the archive.
