Hi, I downloadet Desert Storm, and found out that it's only a demo version. :( ...I wanted to play this game very badly!

Kosta 08-04-2004 10:35 PM

Hmmm.... I'll try to replace it with the original ASAP, prommise :?

Kosta 23-05-2004 03:45 PM

Taken care of. Full version available now thanks to Tom!

Anonymous 07-07-2004 11:55 AM

Thanks

athcnv 31-01-2005 05:24 PM

Quick question before I download it....do you have to pick up fuel (as well as ammo and repair kits) in this game?
Cos in the megadrive version, when I played the missions I kept running out of fuel too quickly (of course, it could be that I wasn't too good at the game).

The Fifth Horseman 01-02-2005 02:38 PM

Yes, you do. Procedure is the same. There is also a screen where you can check your fuel level.

n3ur0 20-02-2005 12:21 AM

in my pc, both desert and jungle strike says this: (well, i dont speak english very weell)

Division error
if the problem keeps, ask your seller

or something like that
i accept help ;D

The Fifth Horseman 21-02-2005 12:46 PM

N3ur0: You tried running it under Windows, right? You should get DosBox, and run Desert strike through it.

<picks up a red-hot branding iron with a sentence "DosBox, not Windoze" on it>

Would this help you?

n3ur0 22-02-2005 02:40 PM

tx, ill try

omni 03-03-2005 05:17 PM

when i start desert strike there is a protection screen and i am asked to enter a code. where can i find these codes? thx in advance

Guest_Rugz 05-03-2005 06:46 AM

Omni you can type in anything and that protection screen goes away.

Iam having trouble running this game in dosbox. after protection on gremlin screen the music just stops abruptly and then there is this clickish sound and the game hangs on that gremlin screen forever.

I tried jungle strike same abrupt ending of music on gremlin screen but the game runs.

Anyone here who has actually played this game ?

lior 19-03-2005 08:05 PM

Hey ' great game.
does anyone know how do I check my ammo and fuel status?

The Fifth Horseman 21-03-2005 07:26 AM

Press F1.

scooby_doo 22-03-2005 10:51 PM

First of all, great site, Ive been looking for loads of these games since i got rid of my amiga 600 :) The only thing is, the graphics on the games im playing seem a lot worse than the screenshots on the website, a lot more "blockier" and not as i remember them from the A600.
Desert strike, quality game, but it jerks around a on my pc and the sound does too. Is it just the way i have set it up or something that gives me the worse graphics or does anyone else experience this?

Thanks

Zeit 16-04-2005 12:54 PM

I got same problem sound just syops after a some seconds of game play.
Someone know how top fix this??? i play it in DOSBOX..
sorry for dab enlish. :help:

:help: :help: :help: Ok when i play this in dosbox the game freezes every 5 seconds or so. Not to mention the opening screen takes 30 seconds to move on regardless of clock cycles. Is there some tweak in dosbox i can do to make all better? Ive loved this game since i first played it on my genesis in 94 hehe i used to skip school to play it. LOL

The Fifth Horseman 27-07-2005 09:22 AM

Isn't the thing protected-mode?

In that case, I remember that in some thread (I think it was X-Com Apocalypse) there was an alternate protected mode program mentioned.

Guest 19-08-2005 03:29 PM

how do i find cheat codes for a downloades game like this ?

The Fifth Horseman 22-08-2005 03:48 PM

Via Google.

red_avatar 12-12-2005 06:18 PM

This game is not running that well under DOSBOX - lots of slowing down and even freezing for no apparant reason. Very unstable in other words. Too bad, I love this game.

guesty 24-12-2005 09:04 PM

How about no? :P

it's more fun to get to later levels yourself, you'll understand that later.

Strikerman 12-04-2006 06:01 PM

My english is not very good. I hope, you can understand me.

When I start the desert.exe, there's a black windows in which is a phrase: "Requires an EMS driver" or something like that. I downloaded DOS-Box, but I can't understand what to do. Is there an EMS driver? Or can one of you speak german and tell me how to use the DOS-Box exacly. My english isn't very good, so I can't read the text here :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

Guest 12-04-2006 09:17 PM

Ok, now the game runs. I did find my CD with Desert and Jungle Strike. How can I start the game from the CD?

The Fifth Horseman 13-04-2006 01:48 PM

In DosBox? You need to mount the CD as another drive (D is a common choice). Note that there are a few parameters you need to use when mounting in order for DosBox to "see" it as a CD.

Guest 13-04-2006 04:21 PM

When I put in the CD of Desert and Jungle Strike, there are the .exe of them and when I start one there is the black window "Reqests an EMS driver". My CD drive is named F. Which parameters must I change that the system "see" it?

Guest 14-04-2006 07:40 AM

Now all is A-OK! I found out how to start Jungle and Desert Strike. :w00t:

Steve 24-05-2006 09:24 PM

The Fifth Horseman 30-05-2006 10:01 AM

F1 through F3.

agobooboo 29-06-2006 09:54 PM

Be cool if u could come up with a map editor for this awesome game....or a mod

The Fifth Horseman 30-06-2006 01:16 PM

Just get Jungle Strike or Urban Strike. The gameplay is nearly identical, cept for different maps and missions.

Guest 07-08-2006 03:24 AM

for those playing in dosbox and have the ems driver problem go to the dosbox.conf in the emu folder and with wordpad edit thee following line:

[dos]
# xms -- Enable XMS support.
# ems -- Enable EMS support.
# umb -- Enable UMB support (false,true,max).

xms=true
ems=true
umb=false

and it will work. I play the game with about 10000 cycles.

Hi, thanks for downloading this - great game.

Anyone know the cheat for extra lives?

Cheers.

Guest 28-01-2007 11:28 AM

Hi if you want to become invincible use this cheat, when you are on the frigate press esc, the menu screen with the various F key options apears, now just type, waterfall and the press the spacebar to get back to the helicopter on the frigate, now just play the game.

where i can found the squels of this game ? are they avalible for download ?

Dave 20-03-2007 11:01 PM

...Jungle & Urban Strike?
Well if I'm not wrong you can find them on CGA or on Home Of The Underdogs...ah really good games!

bruno 20-03-2007 11:06 PM

That´s true but to be Jungle strike is the best, very good objectives cool to destroy, and other stuff, i like very much Jungle strike...

A. 25-03-2007 06:59 AM

Is it? But Desert strike is much challenging!

Jake Grey 23-03-2008 01:00 AM

I have a CD bundle of Desert Strike and Jungle Strike somewhere that ran on 98SE without complaint; haven't tested the disc on later editions of Windows yet, but if they run without DOSBox I'll be happy to provide an ISO.

Unfortunately, the version of Jungle Strike that I have is the one with the FMV footage, which means having to install a much larger file for the privilege of watching a bunch of Crimewatch reconstruction audition rejects alternate between wooden and hammy in what looks like it might be the developer's office.

humorguy 27-04-2008 04:18 PM

For Desert and Jungle you need a quite high PC and lots of cycles -20,000 or more. I recommend a front end like D.O.G. which makes playing around with cycles and setting EMS, etc, a lot easier then mucking around with .conf files!

I have Desert and Jungle on a Gremlin compilation CD, to get them to run install/copy to C:\Desert and C:\Jungle and then use DOSBox/D.O.G. to run them. The game will freeze. Ctrl-Alt-Del and then run the Desert.exe or Jungle.exe from the CD or if using a Front End, just browse to the file and mount a CD Rom.

The Fifth Horseman 28-04-2008 01:33 PM

Sempron 2500+ and 12000 cycles in DOSBox.

Luchsen 08-02-2009 04:40 PM

There was a mistake with the companies of Desert Strike. The game is protected till next year.

gumpy 17-06-2009 06:19 PM

One of the best arcade games of all time! :max:

Meeeeeeeeee 25-11-2009 02:51 AM

Password for level 2 = CMMBTMMM8
Password for level 3 = CMNJ3MMMJ
...

I didn't play longer, it's hard without cheating!

Also, as previously said, if you want to become invincible use this cheat: when you are on the frigate press esc, the menu screen with the various F key options appears, now just type "waterfall" and the press the space bar to get back to the helicopter on the frigate, now just play the game!

The Fifth Horseman 02-01-2010 04:15 PM

This game has now been declared...
ABANDONWARE :OK:

Go and download it!

Is there any possibilty to set monitor/game refresh rate?! hmm..

alex10 06-10-2010 11:14 PM

Has anyone been able to rescue the missing co-pilot? Supposedly you can get him from the first mission, near the crashed plane in the north-west corner.

I've rescued him many times, but he just doesn't show-up in the pilot selection...

Dave 07-10-2010 01:36 PM

I did that, but I don't remember his real position, if you want to be sure you must rescue all MIAs agents. You can use the minimap to locate them.

However I've found this on the net:

Quote:

In the northwest corner of the map you will see a plane crash and a gunfight. Kill the green guy and pick up the brown guy; it's Valdez! Make sure to blow up the downed plane to protect the sensitive avionics software onboard.

alex10 08-10-2010 01:53 PM

I did try saving all of them as well, but no go :(

Maybe it's a copy-protection issue? You can play the game without entering the code, but not with Valdez.

Dave 12-10-2010 10:06 AM

It could be a problem of bad porting from Genesis/Amiga to Dos.
Don't know, maybe using a code for the second level could help?

The Fifth Horseman 12-10-2010 06:15 PM

From what I'm reading, Valdez is in the second mission, not in the first one.

Desert Strike with a gamepad

Hi. I'm trying this for the first time and I can't fire missiles with the joystick (gamepad), only the machine gun. Anyone know how to make it work properly?

---
Ok, I figured out. The spacebar change between weapons.
You move and fire the Apache with the gamepad, but you must use the keyboard as well.
Not the best control layout, but it is playable.

:OK:

DOSBox or actual retro PC? Because DOSBox has a built-in keymapper, so you can use any controls you like. Keyboard keys can be mapped to gamepad and vice versa.

Yes, DOSBox. Ok, good advice. I will check it out.

Thanks!
