geelsu - Legions

2 Attachment(s)
Would you be interested in a game called Legions? I have been able to run it successfully until Windows 7. I'll be installing the Windows XP Emulator soon so I can continue to play it from time to time. Attached is the Credits.jpg file and a zip of the Help File from the game. The total size of the directory where I have it is 16.5 MB

I created new topic for your offer. The game is approved, there is installer already uploaded, but we will accept your archive that is ready to play (on XP at least). PM coming...

Can you make several screenshots and one title screenshot? Do you have anything else beside archive? Perhaps you have it on CD, have a manual or something...

I do have the manual. I can scan it in for you if you like. Getting the screenshots will be a challenge. Unfortunately the XP emulator will not run on my Windows 7 Home edition. I am going to check around with a few friends and see if I can find an XP DVD. I hear it can also run in VMware Player.

How do I upload a game?

geelsu 12-03-2014 01:55 AM

Nevermind. I found your message. :)

geelsu 12-03-2014 02:15 AM

Ok. Uploaded. Give a day or two scan in the manual and I will then upload that.

Excellent, thx :)

And if by any chance you feel like typing few words to describe the game, let yourself go :D

The manual has been uploaded and is 48 megs. WOW! I made it by scanning the pages as jpg files and then put them in a Word document with a Table of Contents. If it is to large let me know and I will try and reduce it.

About the game:

Before before Age of Empires, before Zeus, Poseidon, and Pharoah, and many others there was Legions, a contempory of early Caesar and Civilizations games. Appearing in 1994, it was perhaps my first city/empire building game. It is gaming at its simpliest yet requires a good bit of strategy and planning to "Conquer the World" as the game proclaims once you have defeated all the other empires. You begin simply, with one empire (a capital and a few surrounding cities). From there you conquer a neighboring empire and reap the wealth. You begin to build armies, and as your wealth grows you are able to train and establish more advanced troops all the way to heavy calvary. Especially fun is the game generated random maps which, sometimes, creates island continents. Then you are able to build heavy warships and heavy transports to convey your heavy calvary and generals to a neighboring island continent and continue on your conquest to take over the world. Diplomacy is key often as you and another empire create alliances, though they are often short lived as your allie quickly decides he wants your goods. Download and enjoy. If you have any questions or want some tips on play, just let me know via the forum.

Well, manual is a big one. We will keep it if no better solution is found. However, I think creating pdf from pictures would be better solution. You can probably google something that will allow you something like this.

Thx for contributions and review :)

How about 11 megs. Went to landscape and then put two manual pages per Word page and reduced each image size to 66%. Word then had a Save As pdf option.

I did a short write-up, but this is better:

We can't use someone's video review. You can create video of gameplay, intros (if there are any), perhaps a video review and that will go to Abandonia channel on YouTube. It has to be by our members.

As for Legions, pleeeeease zip or rar the game and then re-upload it. I can't download file-by-file in order to zip it again. Also, do NOT include save games or anything else that is personal. We tend to provide the game as-is, like you would get it when you bought it. If for some reason you think something personal should be provided (like a savegame for some reason), please explain why it should be provided and it may be placed in Extras, but not in the game archive itself.

As for the current Legions.zip file on FTP with .HLP file, should the Help file be separated from the game archive? We can add it as extra but if it was among the game files then perhaps include it in the zip as well.

Lastly, about the manual scan. We can use the current one (the bigger one), but why adding pictures into Word in a first place? Why not creating pdf straight from jpgs?

I tried two online converters (this and this) and it worked fine more or less. You can probably find some free tool to download with more options if you want that. Ideally pictures would have same resolution so no margin is needed. So, if you choose to re-create the manual, try to do it with as less margin (white space at edges) as possible, so pdf pages may looks as much as the manual pages. And it can go page by page, you don't need to connect two pages.

As for the manual size, 50 MBs may be a bigger manual, but somehow those pictures in 11MB manual seemed a bit small. So don't save the space, we want pictures to be as big as the manual page. Perhaps you can reduce size by reducing quality or dpi of jpg, but only if it doesn't really change the final outcome much. We prefer quality than saving space.

I created pdf form the old manual unless you come with better solution.

Sorry for long post. The most important was to get the game and material, these are details that would be nice if you can handle them :)
Thx

For creating PDF files, I recommend PDFMate Free PDF Merger. It works like a charm.

Hey Marko. It has been a while. Did I every complete your request. I went to search for Legions and did not find it. Perhaps I let the ball drop on the zip and the manual. Let me know and I'll get on it. I just don't remember where I left off in the process.

marko river 23-09-2014 10:51 AM

Hey, it's been a while indeed. Welcome back :)

Your material is still on FTP in folder gesulli. You may leave that there and create new folder with your username geelsu. There upload zipped archive and possibly new manual. And give more explanation what is in .HLP file and was it part of archive or did you created it.
