I remember this game. It came in an impressive box with a video manual on a VHS cassette! The game itself was rather disappointing.

Erm yeah I'm running it in DosBox and it keeps asking me to select a border province; no matter where I click it keeps saying that place isn't a border province.

Help pls kthx?

Played the Amiga Version...something for fanatic disc-changers. And I still have the video :D
@ Fool: My manual says You have to a grey zone or or one on on the westcoast

Ah, and get a memobook, you'll need it

Saw the word 'Ashes' and thought it was a well timed cricket release! Ah well.

Actually, this game isn't too bad (if you count out the insanely annoying interface). It's basically an enhanced version of MidWinter & MidWinter 2. Incidentally, the guy who designed those games did Ashes of Empire too.

Ashes of Empire held my attention for at most 2 hours, after which the interface finally got on my nerves. As for starter players, i recommend starting out in the province of West Suja , really evil n00b area :ok: .

But, you have to appreciate what the designer was trying to give you...too bad the interface and the clunky controls with a poor 3D world exist.

I have the same problem. To be precise it won't even let me activate the cursor in DOSBox - it just sits in the top left corner at sea (hence it not being a border province) and every time I click the screen, it gives me the "not a border province" error, but won't let me hover over anything.
