The Oregon Trail! :amused: We used to play the original Apple version in Elementary School. It was, uh, much worse looking than this. It was fun though! I'll have to try this out soon.

Loved tp play this is back in sixth grade (The only middle school year when I had "computer" class). Good (and short) game.

Anyone knows game in which you had to go all the way to Alaska to find gold? i am searching for it also.

You probably mean The Yukon Trail, it might be up on the site soon (if the legal status checks out).

Thats just might be it... I loved those two games... then there was a canadian expector guy at the borders. Anyway, I hope both games will be side by side - soon.

Hah ha, Oregon Trail was such a fun game. I played it back in elementary or middle school. I sucked at it. ^^; This version looks a lot nicer, and the hunting's just a bit easier.

Oregon Kill Yourself In The Most Entertaining Way Possible Trail.

I remember playing the original, so I was surprised and pleased to see an attractive looking update.

Mind, I still hate those rattlesnakes.

jaegerdude 21-03-2008 08:56 PM

When I run this game it locks up at the hunting stage?

Anyone else get this?

Sebatianos 22-03-2008 03:53 AM

I'm guessing it's a compatibility issue. What OS are you using and which - if any - emulator?

jaegerdude 22-03-2008 10:55 AM

its XP and I'm not using an emulator...do I have to?

Japo 22-03-2008 01:38 PM

Use DOSBox.

It's easy to make as much money as you want by trading in Independence...

Well, I had no real problems running it under WinXP, but then again, I only played and finished it once that way. Otherwise I automatically play all these ames in DOSBox.

You might not have to, but it will probably run better in DOSBox. Unless, of course, you have a way to play it under true DOS. I recommend that you visit http://www.dosbox.com/ and download DOSBox. You may have to configure it slightly from time to time, but you'll learn how to use it quickly. :)

I do already have DOSBOX, but I was running it via XP, I will try DOSBOX now...thanks for all the help.

Oregon trail is a great adventure survival game however i find that as soon as you've completed the journey successfully then you probably won't be bothered to ever play it again, unless of course you want to kill yourself on the way and gaze at your own grave..

Maxor127 19-07-2009 03:01 PM

I think it has some replayability. I played the original a lot, trying to get the high score. I don't remember if this version has high scores or not.

I'm not from the US but still find this game funny in some strange, rather geeky way.

Donugee 29-05-2011 03:04 PM

I downloaded it and proceeded to unzip the folder, but Windows, 7 in specific, is saying the .zip is empty and wont extract it. I tried to enter it manually and see, then it said it was "invalid".

edit: Never mind I redownloaded it and it's fine. I guess my Ethernet cable lost contact as I was downloading or something. I assume I open it with "Oregon.exe" right?

The Fifth Horseman 29-05-2011 03:44 PM

Correct.

Don't have one 06-04-2012 02:04 PM

When I download it, I get a folder with a bunch of files... which one do I use to play the actual game???

arete 06-04-2012 02:14 PM

It's a zip folder, so you need to extract the files first, then use the .exe or .bat file to run the game. You'll need to use DOSbox as windows can't run old DOS-based games. Go to www.dosbox.com to download it. There's an easy tutorial on that site as well.
