I have a few sprites I'd like to show off.

Are they any good? Honesty is the best policy.

well you're on the right track, but they look like they're pieces of paper, i mean they're flat.

btw did you make your avatar? :D

Yeah, I did make it. And I should add more depth to them. :)

Them thar'd be my first attemt at that type of sprite.

i need to learn how :D

for your chars you should study shapes a little... try to imagine the guy being composed out of basic shapes like cylinders and cubes ;)

Well, I redid the shading on the standing part.

I think it looks better.

i forgot to tell you he needs a little more..pelvic bone.

btw can you tell me how you did the avatar? the animation and ..stuff..

I think he did it in something like Adobe Image Ready. You get some pics, set the speed at which they should change and save everything in a .jpg file. (of course I may be wrong :P )

They look flat indeed. You should really add more depth in them. (Not that I'm an expert :tomato:  )

In my opinion it's a good start ^_^
Of course, you have to add more depth! And I suggest you to start copying good sprites from others, so you'll leran how to shade perfectly ;)

Not to crush your hopes too quickly, but nobody's got a "future" in pixel art in any financial sense of the word.

That said, you're well on the right track for a newbie. But you're lacking a few things. First of all, did you sketch the drawings on paper first? I'm talking a full page drawing in full detail. Then scale it down.

Secondly, don't be afraid to use your palate. Your "shading" added very little to the drawing because there wasn't enough contrast between the highlights and shadows.

There's more, but it's time to eat...
