Im downloading... soon i will edit/post what i think of the game

beliar 03-03-2007 02:31 PM

Is there any way to change the language to german? There seem to be folders for the texts but i don't see any way to set the language.
I already clicked the wrong options a few times cause i didn't know the words - i guess they are written in an older english.

If theres no way i guess i could try to rename the folders as a last resort.

Edit:
Oh, well. Forget it. Only one folder has the (english) texts. Strangely, its the QUESTD one.

Just so you know I got it running perfectly in win98 without dosbox no setup required I just extracted and started it but the videos won't play where they removed or is it my hardware?

Few people still use Windows 98 though - Win98 won't even install on modern PCs anymore. It's great to see Dosbox work on so many systems.

Well, Win98 was still based on DOS, so it's no wonder the still works in that! After all, why would you even want to emulate DOS (with DOSBox) if you still have the REAL DOS on your computer.

And now I guess somebody who uses pure DOS (without any windows installed on the PC) will also tell us how he doesn't need DOSBox to play this game :bleh:

3nergizer 04-03-2007 09:29 AM

I experience a very slow game play using DOSBOX 0.70!! Does somebody have the same problem?

Greetz, 3n

Guest 05-03-2007 05:17 AM

3nergizer you have or a slow pc(dosbox kind of sux on that aspect if its slow pc than it will be slow even if the old game mighteve run perfect in a 286) or you just need to get some cycles up...

The Fifth Horseman 05-03-2007 04:14 PM

Don't forget to change Core to Dynamic in dosbox.conf.

Anybody managed to shoot the cannons? I don't understand how to do it, whats the button I should push, or I've tried everybutton, plus pushing all the buttons on the enemy ships, but I can't seem to find it. :wallbash:

 ... and finally how did you changed into german language?

ruivilela 06-03-2007 12:52 PM

(on Dosbox)

About shooting the cannon I left click in boat once, and it start to aim (in one direction ??). Clicking twice gets you to the lower deck. It's seems very hard to aim, and the battle simulation is a little weird. As pirate with 4 cannon and 30 crew in a pinace, I was able to win a battle with a spanish caravel and a carrack with (caravel: 100 crew and 20 cannon). Without hitting a shot in their ships. Second time, I was sunk by other pinnace.

As merchant, the missions stop appearing after first ones to reappear only after 2 years of games (?).

Trading looked good. But suddenly after one year I was buying precious stones (375p in promotion). But I realized every market on game had cheap precious stones, so I keeped in warehouse for a year... and the price didn't change ever. Strange... Every game I started the markets had the same configuration. So it should be possible to predict them.
Same thing happen when I bought rifles...

How can I load the ship from my warehouse ? This I don't know...

Rannen 07-03-2007 09:09 PM

It happens to me alot where I'll buy a bunch of one type of cargo at a really sweet price only to find that the entire world market has suddenly plummeted. I figure it's a reaction the game has to you placing to much investment in any one area... why, you ask? Because the developers are sadistic pieces of *CENSORED*
Also, i often get read/write errors in bunches of different circumstances... one of them even straight off the load screen. One such non-fatal error reduced my the max L capacity of my ship to 23... needless to say, I was most discouraged.

Kurko 08-03-2007 07:52 AM

anybody know how to repair sails? when go to shipyard and go for repair they always repair only hulk... I even bought sails at merchant but nothing happend... I still had 15% of sails I went to some port and my ship sunked I suppose it was because of that sails but I dont know how to repair them.... And can anybody tell me what is good for to refit ship? I spend some money for it and I didnt find out any difference... What is captain good for? And is there any way to know how much each product (beer, wool, iron etc. just whatever you can buy) weighs? I dont understand why can you buy 100 of that but only 42 of that etc.

You go the warehouse and click on the book. In the lower left corner of the book it says warehouse, click this once and it changes to ship - then you can load from warehouse to ship.

I would like to know about the sails as well! I keep sinking too... :tai:
...and the refit - what the heck does it do?
Finally the explorers' guild in london... I can't ever seem to catch one of the ships to be able to invest in them... it always says "all ships are currently away" or whatever. Does anyone know?

Rannen 09-03-2007 03:56 AM

In the shipyard there's a spot to click for 'repair hull' and a spot to click for 'repair sails.' The spot you click to repair you sails is just above the one for your hull and is located (surprise surprise) over the sails of the ship in the picture.

No problem, I have already done this with Dominus manual, so you're feel free to upload it.

I've discovered that refitting your ship changes it into a warship, so you should only do it when you want to become a pirate.

If you wish repair Sail:
Click on Shipyard, move the mouse on 'Repair Sails' (Up, on icon sails), click yes, click on signature, and move your mouse to left (max) or right (minus).

If you wish repair Hulk:
Click on Shipyard, move the mouse on 'Repair Hulk' (Down), click signature, and move your mouse to left.

Simple, the weight of each product or good

Not only the weight, it's also about the volume it takes up. Something that is really light can take up more volume then you have available, so you won't havee enough room for it all.

Auto setting for Cycles will run only 3000 cycles on non-protected-mode games, which may be well too low for many of them out there. Similarily the Auto setting for Core will only enter Dynamic mode when running a protected mode game.

Setting the Core fixed to Dynamic mode is preferable, especially since the recent DosBox versions do not display any more instability in it than in Normal mode.

Similarily, setting Cycles to a pre-defined value higher than 3000 is also preferable.

My default settings are Dynamic Core and 12000 Cycles (with 1000 step for increasing and decreasing them).

Yup, that solved the mouse freeze up for me as well.

On another note:

1)As for whoever asked about the Adventures Guild, you have to look up on the guild's book the return times of the ships, and make sure to be in London when they return (they stay inport for 2 weeks or so), only then can you invest in them. Make sure you invest in as many as you can, since a lot of them go amiss (many are high risk-high profit, after all). Getting 50k profit out of a 1k investment was sweet, but you gotta be prepared for quite a few of them not returning.

2)About workshops, I take it then that you have to wait for some specific time or event that will lead for the appearance of the master artisans in the in?

3)Is anyone successfully handling the battles? I found them a pain, luckily you can switch to "passive sea battles" and have them autorun. With passive battles I've captured 3 ships (one of them a galleon) in 2 battles, but in most games handling the battles yourself gets better outcomes.

Also, you can set a new value to memsize, by example,
memsize=64

The Fifth Horseman 19-03-2007 03:37 PM

Yes, but that's irrelevant - the default memsize=16 is more than sufficient for most DOS games and programs.

first click on the book in the merchants office
that brings up the list of goods available.

then the spacebar changes the merchant goods from sell to buy or viceversa

finally the mouse is moved to the left of screen to decrease or the right to increase how much you wish to buy.

when buying weapons if you want to use them on your ship

first buy them from the merchant as described above

you must then go to your ship log book and add them to the ship

then go to the inn and look around until you find a mastercraftsman
they are by the door in barcelona , middle in algiers and scroll across to the otherside of the room in london
then make sure you have 15k cash and money to buy stuff and talk to the master craftsman usually takes me about 6 goes

Guest 27-06-2007 09:42 PM

I had this game as a (German) original back in the day.
Here's some stuff I remember which might clear things up a bit.
1. Bugs:
The game is horribly bugged in the unpatched version and AFAIK only 10% of those bugs were patched. Also judging from the text files (in the German version) it seems that there were a lot more missions planned than made it into the game.
2. Adventure:
The game has sort of a quest line that includes several missions you do for the queen and might even reward you with some nice videos.
However the line is not continuous and each part requires you to be in a certain port during a certain period of time. So you can easily miss your next mission which will kill most of or even the whole questline.
3. Trade:
Elizabeth I. employs a new trade system which is outright stupid and was fixed in Patrizier II (The Patrician 2 in English afaik).
Price is calculated by supply and demand as in most of those games BUT supply includes not only what's in store at the port but also what you got in your ship.
If you were for example bringing 2 shiploads of beer to a town that has no beer at all, the price would plummet because there's a lot of beer on your ships and you wouldn't be able to sell at a profit. The only way to work around this is to limit the amount of each type of cargo you haul. The upside is, that you can keep prices low for goods you want to buy frequently just by keeping enough of them in stock at the port.

A Beginner's Guide to DOSBox

FobicoDAM 08-07-2007 08:45 AM

Ok, i have mastered the game... almost... i still cant get the "reputation" thing.. making bussiness i managed to have 1000000 pounds on cash money, some bussines and loooots of investment on the guild and loaning the state (if you want money, forget about piracy, invest on every guild trek).

Then.. the caos... im welcomed on London .. something like "People is glad you are here" or something similar, with lots of money, a Galleon with lots of cannons (just to expend some money, cause i rarely travel to another city, just to queen's bussines) and when i try to loan the state again or get my money back a trial appears and im sentenced to 90 days on jail... i cant understand the reason... thing will never go the same after that..

Any hint? its boring to go after 1576 with lots of money and nothing to spend it...

I tried to be pirate with my super galleon but it seems to be too powerfull and I cant capture any ship (obviously im playing on Pasive action for sea battles, the mouse aim action is patetic), so its useless...

Is there any end? or just make money to be first on the queen's attendence list? im 4 right now.

Guest 08-07-2007 07:50 PM

is there any new version of this game...coz this game is full of bugs....i really liked this games when i was little.i have been searching for it since 6 years...and now i found it (wouhou) but full of bugs..any way if there is a new version plz send me a msg on [BEEEP]@gmail.com....

And FabicoDAM, could you post a guide on how you made that much money? I have been able to start a workshop that makes brandy, but i could never make a profit from it. How exactly do you make a profit from workshops?

Well i looked through the manual, but it doesn't really tell you how to make any kind of profit (at least not from worshops). It just says how to establish a workshop, which i already know. But i can never make a profit from it. Can someone who knows explain exactly how to make a profit from workshops? How many servants do you need? How do you know where to sell the finished goods? How can you tell how much it costs you to make each unit of goods? Those are the things i need help with.

Guest 07-08-2007 04:40 PM

I can't repair my hull or sails. Everytime I try to do that it tells me

My ship is EMPTY, it has no cargo and only two sailors and I'm down to 21% on both things. :wallbash:

Forget it.. workshops are usefull only if you want to loose your money.. i tried with all them and you can never get the raw material on time to keep the production going, and keep enough money on your land safe to pay your workers...

The best way to do money is to use the merchandising ligue (i cant remember it now), invest all your money there and keep on london doing nothing, you will see the money come, then you can invest on city loans but i dont know why i always end up in the jail doing that... as an advice, dont loan more than 50% the city demands..

Piracy is a good way to loose money too.. if you are lucky you can get enough money to fix your ships...

I end up with a galleon full of weapons and millons of pounds just doing nothing usefull :-P

Had the same bug. No music, no sound after "A. SoundBlaster" selection in setup (DosBox 0.72)
But worked fine after I had selected "MPU-401", same SoundBlaster as a choice of MIDI device with default
port of 330. Expected just music, but amazingly sound
is working too - just switch it on in F4 menu of the game.

it's not bug, you simply didn't configure your sound device before

Checked game just two weeks ago: it have problems, if I trying to set any music card (Roland, ESS, Adlib) as sound card in DOSBox. If first (sound) card is SB or similar, second can be anything, I think. But I checked SB/Adlib and SB/General MIDI combination.

fleabag 19-02-2010 03:41 PM

Glorianna is supposed to play a test video after running the setup program, why dosn't it do that (it says that the setup was successful)?

Luchsen 20-02-2010 04:01 PM

Perhaps the video was ripped to reduce the archive's filesize.

I'm using both DosBox 0.72 and 0.73 but when loading up the game it freezes up at the setup window. The mouse will not move, and no keystrokes cause any actions so I have to boot out. Any suggestions or solutions? I know I was able to make this game work in the past, but it has been a few years, and I'm not sure which version of DosBox I was using then. It doesn't seem to work quite like it says: instead of taking your money and paying out a lump sum with 12% interest after 3 months, it seems to pay a bit of the interest each month and then return your principal after maybe a year. In any case, if you wait long enough, it should show back up as (the misleadingly-labelled) 'amount owed so far' and you click (the even-worse-labelled) 'pay back money owed' to withdraw your cash.

This may reduce your stature within the town, so check afterwards to see if you need to put money back into the local gov't.

I don't think this is true. You just have to pull your cursor all the way to the right of the screen to get that last one unit. If that's truly impossible for you, it might be a monitor sizing issue. Dosbox should clear it up.

lly 02-05-2013 10:36 PM

workshops

Since the manual links don't work at the moment and this took a while to work out, a brief overview of workshops:

First, you must own a warehouse in the city (you start with one in London and can buy more there and in other cities at auction or through the property clerk at the various town halls).

Once you do, various master workmen will appear at the city's inn. They will usually blow you off until you are respected in the town (increasing respect may come from side missions but may be purchased by investing somewhere between £10k and £100k in loans to the treasurer at the city's town hall). If there is no master workman in the inn, you may be able to spawn one by reëntering the inn or you may have to wait for another day. Since it always costs £15k to equip the workshop, you probably need to have that amount of cash on hand to have a successful discussion.

Pay attention to what the workman is a master of: you'll only recoup £7.5k if you end up selling it off later.

There isn't any automatic profit. The workshop just turns raw materials stored at your warehouse into finished products in your warehouse. It's up to you to purchase cheap raw materials and sell the finished products for a good price. Obviously, it's a good idea to locate your workshop in a place with cheap inputs (i.e., a brandy distillery in French wine country or a textile mill in London near the English sheep herds.)

You start with 10 workmen and that's all you seem to need. Just make sure you transfer enough money to pay them, using the book at your warehouse. Their 'motivation' seems to be based on the location: Anglican spots like London give you 110% and Catholic Le Havre will only give you 70% despite supposedly being an 'English' city.

One minor gameplay flaw seems to be that some of the workshops can never generate a profit. A gunsmith will use 1 wood, 100 bronze, and 100 iron to make 1 cannon, meaning each one costs £1k-3k more to produce than simply buying them. Similarly, the 'armorer' who uses 1 saltpeter and 1 sulphur to produce 2 units of gunpowder will typically not be able to pay for his inputs and the £50/mo. in payments to the workshop staff. The brandy distillery needs 3 units of wine for 1 of brandy, but can break even depending on where you're buying and selling. Only a very few seem to be generally profitable: the weaver who turns £5 wool into £17+ cloth or the sail-maker who turns the cloth into £23+ sail.

A much bigger problem seems to be that there is no way to transfer your goods from your warehouse to your ships. You can sell your finished products from the warehouse to the merchant and then buy them off of him, but that means you're losing anywhere from £2 to £50 per unit in profit. (Please do let me know if there is some way to do this, because the warehouse and ship ledgers don't seem to be able to and it's a major failure.)

It seems pretty straightforward: loan cash to the city hall treasurer 10k at a time and it bumps you up through several levels (no one cares; people leave you alone; you're respected; etc.) One poster above says things get sketchy if you loan more than 50% of the town's request. It's possible the coders wanted to simulate ahole locals coming up with an excuse not to repay you, but it's more likely (if that's accurate) that it's just a bug.

If you realy have problem with the germanversion though, I might be able to translate it. Hope it's short, german is not my strong point.
But if you offer the manual to Abandonia, I'm willing to take the risk.

In case it is too big a task for the translation, does anybody per chance has a physical English manual available for scanning? As Abandonia.com is the only place that has the cover of the English edition on display.

rtf file:

Elizabeth I

Did you fall out of favor with Elisabeth? The trade routes are not
lucrative enough and the annoying pirates can not be dispelled? You'd manage the Adventure parts, but when and where do they find these adventures? If you ask yourself these questions, you should not
keep paging - because here comes the rescue on the high seas!

To build a trading empire from 5,000 pounds and a small pinnace in 30 years, a trading empire one wants to build up at a fast pace. At the start
should be traded mainly with cheap goods, thus the ship
is also busy. It is worthwhile. For example, look for routes such as cloth from London to Barcelona, beer from Barcelona to Algiers, silk or brandy from Algiers to Edinburgh and then a trip back to London, from where the whole thing is repeated. Of course, the first earned pounds will go straight investing into one larger ship. The advantage of a big ship versus many smaller ones is, that the factory brings positive image boost (respect?) in the city, where one wishes t have the office of the ambassador. Also, the situation should be adapted to the materials to be processed available. Building a distillery is best in a wine area (Le Havre) and a weaving best in the vicinity of cheap cloth suppliers (London, Edinburgh or Antwerp). The last worthwhile way to raise income, is giving cities loans. These interest caps at 12% - a not to be underestimated sum. It also strengthens up
the confidence in the citizens.

The flip side of the coin

If you do not want to remain a merchant forever, you have to become an envoy be appointed. Once appointed ambassador, the road to success becomes a lot rockier. Ambassadors want to receive adequate (expensive), the poor fed, the Legation renovated and festivals celebrated. For one
Ambassadors it is always good, if one in the city hall covers one quarter to one third of the upcoming investment through loans. You should also more often prove faith in the church. Receptions or Special events must always be scheduled the day before with the adjutant. Do not forget: the small people also have votes! But as soon as the money-making in Elisabeth vecomes not-too-difficult, we now dedicate ourselves to the a total of 15 quests. In this way you can gain more image than through the biggest donations. At this point we give you once again our main advice: save, save, save! If you follow this advice hardcore, then it should not be a problem to soon take the place of to chair Sir Cecil the Privy Council. I wish you success!

Introduction Quest

The series of 15 Quests in Elisabeth is right at the beginning of a small one
initiated. Just drive to some harbor with your pinnace (Exception: Barcelona & London) and visit the tavern. It is pointed out to you that an envoy of the English crown has fallen into a storm and urgently needs to be taken to Barcelona to invite the Spanish king to the coronation ceremony of Elizabeth. Take that Order, you will automatically drive to Barcelona. There it asks you Envoy to wait ten days to deliver the King's answer. Invest the 1,000 pounds you pay for 10 days of docking
because after bringing the envoy back to London, you are invited to the palace. There you will find Elisabeth himself. She thanks you and compensates you with one bag full of gold.

Cheat trick:
First buy two pirate ships, that You equip. Now go on a foray. Plunder a foreign ship and transfer a good (if possible gems) to your ship.
Immediately afterwards select the goods again with the Enter key. Confirms the number of previous action. Press the enter key again, whereupon the inventory on the looted ship is negative. You can do this until your ship is full.

PS: I just dropped the text to Google Translate german -> english. Before and after the -------------- marks I checked the translation, not between. Later I edited to omit those.
Seems you'd get a better translation if you'd remove the line-breakes from the original text, so the translator don't register broken sentences. It'd actualy be better or almost as good as I'd be able to achieve.

Tips & Tricks:
The merchandise management system in Elisabeth is constructed in such a way that one is forced to act with small units of different goods, whereby the enterprise resource planning system becomes much more complex. Some products such as: brandy, silk and cloth are seasonally the exception.
In order to operate factories reasonably, you should put about 15,000 pounds in the camp. You should also transfer about 200 units of iron, or bronze, to the forge.
In addition, the blacksmiths and the armory do not make any profits, as the goods produced are strategic weapons.
On the other hand, good profits can be made with the distillery, weaving and sailmaking.
The production lasts about five weeks, furthermore, the operation of factories in terms of the reputation in Elisabeth is very important
Regularly binge if you are a pirate to prevent a mutiny.
If you can not find an escape in an adventure, you have two options that are quite helpful:
1. If you print your coat of arms downwards out of the picture (please note that the coat of arms outside the screen is in the middle), the information board appears, then press the left mouse button and information appears on the board about the next waypoint in the adventure.
2. If you want to break off an adventure, please go into the cabin and then interact with the coat of arms in the upper left corner. If you now stop about 0.5 cm from the corner and press the left mouse button, a panel appears in the center of the picture. Now you are asked: "Do you really want to do business again?", Confirm with "Yes" or "No".
If Elisabeth I Adventureparts are installed, that should make the game a bit easier. What adventures you can do where can be found in the following list:
Please note that the start of the adventure is also related to your reputation!

As you can see, most of the stuff is just lore, thus not needed to play. What is game-realted material is from page 6 to 61.
I again suggest copying the thing into google translate with the addition repairing broken sentences (remove enter, add space).

As not even replacementdocs have any manual, I assume your germanmanual might be the sole accessible manual for the game on the entire internet, sorry.

I might do the mindnumbing copy&paste + correct common sense/basic language skill requiring stuff for at least the .rtf maybe during the weekend if you'll still need it.

Manual

twillight, thank you very much for the translation!!!

Of course, I can use 'Google Translate' as well, and that's what I usually do with non-English manuals. But your knowledge of German would sure be of great advantage there!

So I think that in the absence of the original English manual, your help is most valuable to anyone interested in this rather complex game.

Amazing, just by looking for Englihs version, Iurius supplied German manual we were missing :D Thx for contributing.

I'll cehck about registering, since you should be member to get proper credits for contribution.

Elisabeth the 1st

Did you fall out of favor with Elisabeth? The trade routes are not lucrative enough and the annoying pirates can not be weaned? You would be able to do the adventure parts, but when and where do these adventures take place? If you ask yourself these questions, you should not go further - because here comes the rescue on the high seas!

If you want to build a trading empire from 5,000 pounds and a small pinnace in 30 years, you have to be very fast. At the beginning you should trade mainly with cheap goods, so the ship is busy. Worthwile routes are: cloth from London to Barcelona, beer from Barcelona to Algiers, silk or brandy from Algiers to Edinburgh and then a trip back to London from where it is repeated. Of course, the first earned pounds should be immediately invested in a larger ship. The advantage of a large one compared to many small ships is, that the manufactory shall always be in the city in which one desires the office of the ambassador, since the establishment of a manufactory always brings a positive image thrust (reputationincrise? whatever the game-term is) with itself. Also, the location should be adapted to the materials that processed there. The best way to build a distillery is in a wine-growing region (Le Havre) and a weaving mill near cheap cloth suppliers (London, Edinburgh or Antwerp). The last worthwhile way to earn money is to give credit to cities. These interest the capital at 12% - a sum that should not be underestimated (? the capitaltakes 12% of such income from you? or it is the maximumtax rate you can set?). It also strengthens his trust in the citizens.

The flip side of the coin

If you do not want to remain a merchant forever, you must be appointed ambassador. Once appointed ambassador, the road to success becomes a lot rockier. Ambassadors want to receive adequate (expensive), feed the poor, renovate the legation and celebrate festivals. For an envoy, it is always good to be able to cover approximately one-third of the upcoming investments with credit at the city hall every quarter (?refers to city-quarters? or bad grammar?). Also, one should often prove his faith in the church. Receptions or special occasions must always be scheduled with the adjutant the day before, and do not forget: the small people also have votes! But since earning money in Elisabeth is not too difficult, we now dedicate ourselves to the 15 quests. In this way you can gain more image than through the largest donations. At this point we give you again the most important advice: save, save, save! If you follow the advice rigorously, it should not be a problem to soon stand in the place of Sir Cecil the Privy Council. I wish you success!

Introduction Quest

The series of 15 quests in Elisabeth is initiated right at the beginning by a small one. Just take your pinnace to any port (except Barcelona & London) and visit the tavern. It is pointed out to you that an envoy of the English crown has fallen into a storm and urgently needs to be taken to Barcelona to invite the Spanish king to the coronation ceremony of Elizabeth. If you accept the order, you automatically drive to Barcelona. There the Messenger asks you to wait ten days so that he can deliver the King's answer. Invest the 1,000 pounds that you have to pay for 10 days of anchors, because after you have brought the envoy back to London, you will be invited to the palace. There Elisabeth awaits you personally. She thanks you and compensates you with a bag full of gold.

The transport order

After leaving the throne room, asks you to visit the London-based dealer. Accept the invitation and accept the order to transport grain to Le Havre. Once in Le Havre, visit the local dealer who will offer you a sample of his freshly brewed miracle water to Barcelona. If you accept the order, you will automatically sail to Barcelona. Here you will visit the tavern to hand over to Renata de la Campolonga the despatch of Crubourgeois. After you have invited her to have a drink, leave the tavern and go back to the cabin, where you are already expected by a messenger from the mayor. Following the invitation of the mayor, go to the town hall. There you will be given another despatch to be delivered to Bayonne. Unfortunately, you can not bargain with the mayor, but he already offers the stately sum of 300 pounds for this messenger trip. Once in Bayonne, visit the Spanish Embassy, where Mr. Velázquez is waiting for you. He wants to be taken to Barcelona immediately after receiving the despatch. With a little sensitivity, you can easily get around 500 pounds for the ride. While you deliver Velázquez in Barcelona, he already awaits you with the next order: He wants to drive himself and a few friends to Scotland. Important: You must have sold all goods that are on the ship before they leave. Otherwise there is not enough space for the passengers. As a born stoic, get involved in the deal, but first consult with your adjutant. He recommends that you deliver the passengers to the English Crown. You accept this proposal and set sail for London. There you enter the throne room and reap your praise from Elisabeth.

Espionage in Scotland

If you happen to be in London on 15.12.1560, you will be directed to the third quest. Sir Cecil needs someone to go to Edinburgh quickly. Accept with thanks and go there immediately. In the tavern talk to the bartender and ask him about McFarley. Since he was recently arrested, you must first contact another person: Bianca Le Normand. They will meet you on the stage of the tavern in the evening. Unfortunately, you can not help. After a brief visit to your cabin, enter the town hall. There you meet a scribe who suspects a certain O'Shaugnessy in the shipyard. But even there you will not find him. Now take a look in the dungeon. But beware: save before trying, here which of the answers works is random. Try to get into the prisoner's cell and buy him out. He then gives you a belt buckle, which you give to Bianca Le Normand in the tavern along with the dispatch from Sir Cecil. Quickly bag the confirmation from Bianca and back to London, where you are already expected by Elisabeth and Cecil in the throne room. After a short conversation, you agreed to take Sir Cecil to Edinburgh. There, you have to go to the tavern twice to find Bianca and Cecil on your ship. Now you deliver Cecil to London or Bianca to Bayonne and have successfully completed the third quest.

Elisabeth has smallpox

Sometime in 1563 you should go to a tavern (except London, Algiers, Bayonne). There you will learn that the queen is ill and urgently needs help. Fortunately, for a small fee of £ 50, which your queen should worth, the innkeeper provides information about two doctors. Do not choose the muslim, as he will either try to poison the queen or be arrested before completing [historical perspective, remember]. So head to Bayonne, where Monsieur Coupe-les-Oz is supposed to be. Once there, pay a visit to the innkeeper, who tells you besides many unimportant things that the doctor is currently staying in Lisbon. Also in Lisbon, the landlord is first interrogated. This gives the place of residence of the doctor, and immediately pay him a visit. After you have calmed down his (Catholic) conscience with a bag of gold, go immediately to London. Hurry up in the throne room and hand over the doctor to Sir Cecil. After receiving your praise, you can return to your business - Quest number 4 is done and the queen is saved.

The change

In 1566, the Queen visits you in London to doafavour for her. You are asked to drive to Barcelona. Once there, you enter the bank and trigger the bill. The banker asks you to do another transport. You accept this as well, but before you pay the money you decide to drop by Elisabeth and ask her for your opinion. She wants to use forged money to wipe out Spain once and for all (not sure about this sentence!). The new cargo will finally bring you to La Coruna and reap the bishop's praise.

Captain Hawkins

From 01.09.1568 until the end of the year, you will encounter the ship of Captain Hawkins when leaving the ports of Cadiz, Lisbon, La Coruna or Bayonne. He was attacked by Spanish pirates and now swims helplessly through the waters. Provide him with groceries for the moment and then immediately head for London to deliver the captain's message to Elisabeth. This in turn sends you back to the captain to get the necessary information. These should then bring you together with a message to the English ambassador in Barcelona. The envoy is worried about the incidents surrounding his wife who are to take you to London. On the way to the queen you will be pursued by a few captains, who want to steal from you the ambassador's wife and her belongings. The only way to prevent this is to sink the pirates. This increases your reputation with the Queen and protects the financial budget. With the return to London, this adventure is over.

Mercator's plate

The next conspiracy will come to you when you visit the dealer of the city of Lisbon in 1569. Unknowingly you are standing in front of him, when he tells you that Sir Cecil is in the city and wants to talk to you.
As soon as you arrive at Villa Arborgrey (on the hill), Cecil informs you that there is a printing plate waiting for you in Barcelona, which is crucial for the continuation of the royal family. If you accept the order, you travel to Barcelona, where you will be dismissed as an English merchant. Sir Cecil suggests that you have your ship rebuilt at La Rochelle. Follow his instructions and drive to La Rochelle, where you will find Fancois in the tavern. After a visit to the shipyard, you will first get rid of £ 5,000 for the remodeling as you are now waiting for ten days. Before you leave the city, take another look at the tavern. Fancois asks you to drive him to Algiers and is willing to pay £ 1,000 for it. Afterwards you leave for Barcelona, where you will find in the bar Mauro, which loads the statue and the valuable contents on your ship.
When leaving the port, do not be persuaded by your cheeky aide to take the plate to another hiding place. In the statue, she gets safely to London and thus into the hands of the Queen, who will quickly give you a few pounds before she goes back to her business. One can only say: disaster successfully fended off!

The Conspiracy

Important: The following quest is only available from version 1.01! If you're already in the middle of the quest and can not get any further after waiting for the spy in Cadiz for a day, just click in the corner of the upper left corner of your cabin. This will allow you to complete the quest and have the opportunity to leave the harbor. From January to August of the year 1570, in any English, French and Dutch port, you will meet a Queen's messenger who desperately wants to speak with you. As soon as you arrive in the throne room, she tells you about a planned conspiracy against her. Drive first to Cadiz, where you learn in the local bar that the royal informant had to walk in the dungeon La Corunas. It is not a problem. However, to bribe the Guardian of the Dungeon; 3,000 pounds is required. If the spy is free, you will travel back to Cadiz, where he will need another day to get new information. During this time you should equip your ship, if not already done, with numerous sailors and appropriate equipment. The next day, you spy the spy in the tavern (anchor). Listen to his report and decide to take advantage of the next breeze to follow Bailly. As you might expect, you can just catch up with his pinnace. Make him fight and board his boat. He is automatically taken hostage and the trip to London is prepared. Before you drop, however, he makes you an offer: They let him run in return of the layouts of two ships of the silver fleet. Get involved and put out Bailly in Algiers. Then hijack the ships and travel to London with the despatches and winnings, where you'll be paid £ 5,000 for your bold activities.

The conquest of Briel

For the Dutch water geodeses, see the following quest, which you can take in February 1572 in all cities except London. Sir William asks you to go to London. He explains the precarious situation of the Queen and orders you to accompany the Geusen to the sea. Once in Dover, chat with Captain de la Marck, who offers you to join the water jets. Agree and set the destination first as France and then the Netherlands. But instead of going to Antwerp, a storm brings you near Briel, where you also try to go ashore to let the storm pass. The Spanish ship, which tries to prevent this, is quickly sunk. No sooner have you landed than a messenger from the local mayor delivers an invitation letter. He informs you that Elisabeth wants to speak to you urgently. Leave Briel and the Geusen to sail to England. In the throne room you will receive Elisabeth and Sir Cecil. Both have come up with a plan to stop the expected recapture of Briel. Continue to Portsmouth to collect more ships to join your convoy. Afterwards, make a short detour to Antwerp, where you will meet Captain de la Marck in the town hall, who will provide you with a galleon. In front of Calais, you will meet the Spanish fleet, which has turned out to be slightly larger than expected. Through policy of small stitches, you should succeed in sinking the latecomers in sporadically, without the main convoy noticing any of it. Proceed this way until only the battle remains as an alternative. After not much left of the fleet, you learn that two transporters escaped in the heat of the battle. Even if you decide to follow them, you can not manage to intercept them. By a little consideration, you come up with the idea to ask a dike master builder his opinion. After a short conversation, you are determined to blow up a floodgate so that the Spanish army must flee. Said, done - Briel is again freed from annoying Spanish conquerors, and you are in the favor of the Dutch and of course in the Queen's a lot higher.

The siege of La Rochelle

If you visit one of the cities London, Antwerp or Hamburg in the years 1572 and 1573, you will be automatically involved in the following story. A messenger asks you to meet a royal informant in the tavern in Le Havre. This hooded man is Lord Walsingham, and he tells you that you must send a load of black powder from London to La Rochelle. So head to London, where an arms dealer is already waiting for you (behind the Privy Council). If the black powder is loaded, you leave for La Rochelle, where you are expected by two Spanish ships. The coming battle is not easy, but don't worry. If the ships are either sunk or taken over, you can hand over the powder to the Huguenots in La Rochelle and sail back to London, where, in addition to a few pounds' worth of reward from the queen, you get a little honey on your lips.

Frobishers expedition

Sir Martin Frobisher, who founded an expedition at his own expense, is urgently needed in England. In 1576, the queen orders you to find him. Your first clue is the city of Edinburgh. Once there, the shipyard master points you to a card writer who lives at the harbor. After some explanations it is clear: Frobisher has sailed off with a wrong card. Now it is time to find the culprit - his former associate. He is located - how could it be otherwise - now in the dungeon, where you can buy him for 500 pounds. Offer him the release after finishing the work, but change your mind again and take the wrong cartographer? wrong map? wrong card? with you and search for the wrong Northwest Passage. After a short tour you will find Sir Martin Frobisher - the discoverer of the Greenland Islands - in an Iglo. Unfortunately, only force can convince him to come along, but that's the way it has to happen so that the queen is satisfied.
(I think here you have to make the map of the Northwest passage finished, but take the version to use which Frobisher used to find Frobisher if it was not clear.)

The landing at Smerwick

In 1579, the power from Rome and the Spanish king plan a landing in English climes. Elisabeth got wind of it and she tries to find out what's going on. First you sail to La Coruna, where you can get some information from the local bartender for 300 pounds. He also arranges a meeting with "Jorge", a country man, who tells you that the invasion fleet has already run out. Your lousy aide can not stop you from sailing directly to London to deliver a report to the Queen. This hands you the order to drive to Smerwick and put an end to the spook. When you come near the bay, you see that the opposing fleet is more than twice as large as assumed. For more information, send a patrol to the enemy camp. Afterwards sail back to London and go to the throne room. There you are offered to sail again to Smerwick with an admiral and his fleet to teach the invaders a lesson. Once there, the situation has changed again - the invaders have landed and have entrenched themselves in a castle. Now it is time to deliver a vote of confidence - they do not believe you anymore! But the admiral can convince them that you are not a traitor by suggesting the salami tactic that the operation succeeds. (or YOU can convince the admiral - I think google translate has problems with passive sentences!) If you do not die in the massacre, then Elisabeth's thanks are certain.

The return of the Golden Hind

Francis Drake will meet you in the months of June and July of the year 1580, if you leave one of the ports of Cadiz, Lisbon, La Coruna or Bayonne. On your journey an unidentifiable ship comes to meet you - the Pelican. Francis Drake has just completed his circumnavigation, destroying several Spanish settlements in West America. Now a storm off the Spanish coast puts him so much in need of help. Take his ship in tow and drive to La Coruna. Sell the contents of your ship and go to the shipyard - then back to the ship where Drake is waiting for you. Once you reach Drake's ship, he offers to escort you to La Rochelle. Let the shops rest and do his bidding, as he offers you another job soon after: Deliver some "building materials" to a diamond grinder in Antwerp and bring the finished product to Le Havre as soon as possible. Once in the port of Antwerp, inquire at the tavern about the location of the diamond grinder and then pay him a visit. Six days you have to wait for the work, then go with the crown to Le Havre. In the tavern hand over the crown to Drake, who offers to travel with him to London. Take the offer and sail to London. In the throne room you meet Elisabeth. This invites you to attend the accolade of Sir Francis Drake. You will also receive 2,500 pounds of reward for your exploits and another invitation from Sir Francis Drake to visit him at his home.

The ThrockmortonConspiracy

From January to July 1583 you meet Lord Walsingham in London. He tells you about a possible plot, which is Spanish-papist origin. More information could be gained from a Frenchman named Henry Fagot, who has disappeared however since a short time. On your search for Henry you first head to the port of Bayonne. In the local dungeon you come across Louis Pellation and - can it be that - our old friend Jean Grünbursche. Take Louis with you on your journey to La Coruna, where Henry thinks he must go. There you will actually find Monsieur Fagot, who refers his liberation to a dentist based in Bayonne. Arrived in Bayonne, he must also be overwhelmed and shipped with his mirror box to London. There you deliver him to the throne room, ending the penultimate quest.

The Bawington plot

The last quest can only be achieved if you have received a very positive image amongst the Spanish during the course of the game. Otherwise, you will not be approached when leaving the Spanish towns and thus have no opportunity to enter the quest. If your image with the Spaniards, however, is not in the bad, then a messenger comes to your ship, which orders you to the local mayor. In turn, he instructs you to drive to Le Havre to meet a Mr. Morgan in a factory. This one gives you a cassette, which you search on the way back: Behold, there are 10,000 gold doubloons in it no less! In Bayonne, you meet a Mr. Bawington, to whom you hand over the cassette and then carry him to London. On the high seas, you decide to search him, and you will find a letter to Mary Stuart - Elizabeth is to be overthrown. In London, you pass Elisabeth Mr. Bawington and the 10,000 gold doubloons, which have solved the quest perfectly, but at the same time the war against Spain breaks out ... Have fun with the Queen!

Bugs

Unfortunately, the game is littered of bugs - the Version 1.00 is even not solvable at all. One of the most serious problems is that in the quest "The Conspiracy" in one place a character does not appear, which is indispensable for solving the quest. Furthermore the game does not run quite stable under Windows 95 - in the fight scenes it can crashes easily. Use the DOS version, and save regularly. Caution is also required when saving though: more than four pages of saves are not allowed, otherwise the program crashes.

If it goes wrong ...

If you ever clicked something wrong in a dialogue, did one of your ships sink to the bottom of the sea or did you mistakenly buy the wrong product at an inflated price? Only one thing helps: the ALT-X keyboard shortcut! With a courageous pressure on these keys you end up again in the loading screen of Elisabeth. The good thing is: Elisabeth has a car park, so you always start in the same city (not in the same place) in which your misfortune happened to you.

The pirate in the man

The pirate career in Elisabeth is only worthwhile if you can afford a well-equipped frigate and youare still in the early stages. It's best to take the breaks between the quests to practice this hobby. As a pirate, you can multiply faster and you can never have too much money. Furthermore, the Queen greatly appreciates that you are decimating the hostile fleets, especially the Spanish ones. Until the event that the Queen trusts you the cover letter - around the year 1575 - you naturally have nothing else to do but to obey your desires. The exception is the occurrence of a quest.
However, from the moment you have £ 100,000 on your account for the first time, trading on many ships is more worthwhile than the steady battle on the high seas.

The Privy Council

Once you've been admitted to the Privy Council, you can take £ 20,000 for free from the cash register. This is how: Send all your ships to the shipyard and dismiss all sailors. Then enter the Privy Council, and lo and behold, the Ambassador gives you the handsome sum of £ 20,000 because he thinks all your ships have gone down...

Cheat trick:

First buy two pirate ships that you equip. Now go on a foray. Plunder a foreign ship and transfer the goods (if possible gems) to your ship. Immediately afterwards, you select the goods again with the Enter key. Confirms the number of previous action. Press the Enter key again, whereupon the inventory on the plundered ship is negative. You can do this until your ship is full.

manual

twillight, thanks for the full translation of the RTF!!!

marko river, the German version, in difference from the English one, has been re-published a couple of times in budget editions, with the manual supplied in PDF. So I have found the documentation on the disk image - and that was found on some German torrents.
As for the hints, they have even been included into patch 1.04, as well as to those re-editions.
