  • If you need the game archive, please mention that into your post, updaters will send it to you.
  • Write your review. Try to include as much game information as possible, including gameplay overview, your own tips and tricks, and your rating of the game.
  • Don't forget to take screenshots, just use Ctrl+F5 and you'll find the resultant .png's in the DOSbox 'Captures' folder.
  • Upload your material => Submitting Content to Abandonia: Here's How
  • Inform us that you have finished into your personal thread you created in the Offers forum.

Well except Dragonstrike, Timequest and War in the Middle Earth we don't have the manuals for the rest of the games you listed. As a sidenote one of those games has already been reviewed. But we still need the manual. :p

esgmaster 21-01-2010 09:01 AM

I'm resigning the Space 1889 review because I can't properly review it at this time. However, I'd like to review Iron Blood.

TotalAnarchy 21-01-2010 11:11 AM

What about your other reviews: Dark Angael, Hired Guns, and Nine Lives of Secret Agent Katt?

decoy 21-01-2010 12:28 PM

Hello. If I may I will do the review for Curse of the Azure Bonds

TotalAnarchy 21-01-2010 12:54 PM

Ok, tell us if you need the archive.

decoy 21-01-2010 02:08 PM

No problem, I already have it :OK:

Saccade 22-01-2010 10:46 AM

Can you remember which games were next on my list to do, TA?
Think I made a list a few weeks ago, but I'll be damned if I can find it...

Since work is progressing on AT pretty well atm, I figure I can spend some time reviewing another IF game or something.
Actually, I wouldn't mind doing one of the Infocomics, like Lane Mastodon Vs the Bubblemen.

Not really a game, but Luchsen and I uploaded them all to FTP so I'm ass-u-me ing that they're [approved]?

Dunno nothing about a list that would show the order you'd follow in doing the review. However all of the games in this list are confirmed by you as "gonna be finished" someday. You were particularly concerned in finishing Timequest though.

Eagle of Fire 22-01-2010 04:37 PM

OMG! We have Outpost and Outpost 2 needing reviews? :o

I need to finish the reviews I have right now fast so I can secure those two!

No, I have the game myself (as well as the manual in PDF if you need it). :)

TotalAnarchy 25-01-2010 02:42 PM

We don't have the manual, so it's welcome. For you and the others who took reviews: when the review is ready you need to create your own thread in the Offers forum, and we'll instruct you how to upload the stuff from there. :)

golan 25-01-2010 02:49 PM

No problem. :)

I also have the 1.01 patch if the version you have isn't patched (the one I have from Home of the Underdogs from before they removed it is already patched).

Frodo 28-01-2010 05:37 PM

Gabriel Knight is sold at GOG now. :rocks:

The Fifth Horseman 28-01-2010 11:52 PM

Which doesn't mean we can't add a review with a buylink. :)

Death Incarnate 09-02-2010 06:49 PM

I'll do "Wizardry 6"! I wanted to review it months ago, just to see it on Abandonia and to be able to add it to my favorite games list, but at the time someone else had already volunteered. Well, obviously he didn't do it, so here I am.

And I'd love to do Privateer, too!:woot:

TotalAnarchy 09-02-2010 07:19 PM

Nice, I was beginning to lose hope for that series. Do you need the archives?

Bane would be nice, if the one you have is without copy protection. The original I've got myself, but looking up the passcode everytime really sucks. I'd like to play through it again, to provide some cool screenshots.

Ok, I'm going to review Crusaders of Might and Magic and Drakan - Order of the Flame. I am currently playing these games and I don't plan to stop anytime soon! :D

Panthro 19-02-2010 06:21 PM

I'll take Daggerfall and Dune 2000 if they're still available.

I've got a copy of daggerfall, but not dune2000.

Paco 19-02-2010 06:39 PM

will send you a PM to how to get the Archive.

Panthro 19-02-2010 06:48 PM

I'll do the review in near future. :)

Well, I don't have the files for that - they were on my old HDD.

However, I can easily get them again from the "other place" so that's not such a big deal...
Is is possible to get them back off FTP (as I can anyway, but I'm not sure I'm supposed to) inc the draft review, so I can pick up where I left off..?

Thanks.

Josefsson 24-03-2010 01:08 PM

I can do the Jurassic War review, though I already finished it in both Swedish and English :)

TotalAnarchy 24-03-2010 01:38 PM

I sent you a PM with FTP acess

Josefsson 25-03-2010 08:54 AM

Jurassic War uploaded and done with screens and reviews in swedish and english.

Can do the Magic Carpet review in both languages too.

Edit: Same with Mage Slayer, I can do it too.

TotalAnarchy 25-03-2010 11:42 AM

You can do Magic Carpet, but Mageslayer seems to be too big for the site. Even the rip seems to be above 150 MB.

Thanks for uploading China: The Forbidden City, ermuli :) Pity it's too big for the site. Do you happen to have a rip for me? I've been downloading various games to review but none of them really appeal to me. And the good games i found were already on site. :)

Ermuli 26-03-2010 09:39 AM

No China rip available, sorry!

Luchsen 28-03-2010 07:17 PM

Even ripped it would be at least 300MB large (rather 400MB).

arete 28-03-2010 08:41 PM

The Wizardry VI Review is up, together with screenshots, copy protection and archive (I found my own archive much "cleaner" than the ones you already have). I will provide the german version as an extra as well, as soon as I find a way to scan the german copy protection.

TotalAnarchy 06-04-2010 07:09 PM

Ok, thank you. :)

Death Incarnate 07-04-2010 11:57 AM

Updated my contribution! The scanned Copy Protection looked so crappy, I decided to rewrite it. Hope I got it all right. The good one is the one called "Magic Words" in the Extras folder, so please delete the other one.

Please report that in your Offers-Thread and not here. Thanks you.

TotalAnarchy 22-04-2010 12:51 PM

zdrascic and antifood are removed from their Wizardry reviews, because they haven't checked in a long time. Check the list for the Wizardry titles that are still available for review.

Mighty Midget 07-05-2010 08:12 PM

I'll have a go at Gunship 2000. It's already started but I'll need a reminder in the sb early next week and it does depend on whether or not my copy will run. If all is go then it should be finished in less than 2 weeks, I'd say in about 1.

Mighty Midget 12-05-2010 10:45 PM

About the review:

I'm well into it by now but:

I need someone else who has a joystick (mine's a Saitek X-45) to test the game with "joystick" selected in setup, before I can finish the review.

The game acts up when I select joystick (thrustmaster and keyboard work) and I need to know if there is a way of having a joystick work at all with Gunship 2000.

I'm off for a few days now and won't be able to work on this until Wednesday but I hope the review can be wrapped up by the following weekend.

Can someone who has the opportunity, test GS2k with "joystick" selected, preferably BOTH for cyclic and collective and give me a note if it was/wasn't successful?.

Thanks

dkw 24-05-2010 04:04 AM

I can write up a Review for "Empire - War Game of the Century."

TotalAnarchy 24-05-2010 08:43 AM

Ok, do you have the game archive?

dkw 24-05-2010 03:58 PM

I will need the archive, as long as it is ready to be used with DOSBox.

I used to play this game quite a bit on my old Amiga.

dkw 24-05-2010 06:12 PM

Uploaded the Review for Empire - Wargame of the Century to the FTP Server.

I will move on to writing a Review for Ogre.

I will need the Archive for this one.
Again, another game I used to play on my old Amiga.

dkw 25-05-2010 08:40 PM

I have finished, and uploaded, reviews for Ogre and Perfect General 2.
I have also added screen shots for Ogre, Steel Panthers 3, Empire - Wargame of the Century, and Perfect General 2.

I am ready to slow down, and get to work on a more difficult review of yet another game I used to play on my old AMIGA computers.

I will need the archive for Harpoon.

I assume it is the EGA version we're talking about? The reason why it is up for replacement is because both EGA and VGA vers have the same review. One of them must be replaced. It's your choice however which one. :)

well... Nevermind.

Yes it is the EGA version I would like to review. :p

I'd like to review River Raid an Carnage.
First post updated.

The Coop 21-07-2010 06:11 PM

Greetings.

Been a while, huh? Yeah. Things got busy and the reviews I was doing (LHX Attack Chopper and the Wolf 3D Mission Packs) got put aside. I honestly don't plan on picking them back up, so feel free to remove my name from those two.

However, I would like to review a game I didn't know even came to PC... R-Type. I've played the holy hell out of that game in the arcades, on the PS1 and Master System, so I'd like to claim that one.

marko river 22-07-2010 02:40 AM

It wasn't ever released for PC. I know that since I was also interested in reviewing R-Type several years ago, after I saw it works in DOS. But that was only because it has emulator of arcade machines implemented.

There are also games for certain japanese consoles that can now run on PC machines. This was also done by fans, but I'm not sure is it actually an emulation.

Either way, those are not the games that were actually released for PC, therefore they won't appear on abandonia. Just because some game can now run on PC machines doesn't qualify it for our site. Perhaps some of them can appear on Reloaded, I'm not sure, but current Abandonia policy is to host only the games that were commercially published for PC computers or very old DOS freeware games. Check it again and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that R-Type falls in either of those groups.

And welcome back. You wrote several reviews very fast and you were away for a while. Actually, I was away too, so maybe I just didn't saw you :)

The Coop 22-07-2010 04:35 AM

I walked away not too long after my last review was posted, so I was gone for a good while until I made my latest few posts. But, I figured I'd come by again and see what was going on.

As for R-Type, right after I made my previous post, I saw RAGE in the folder and knew it was just emulation. I remember RAGE from back in the day when I first started messing around with arcade ROMs and such. Tried RAGE a few times with its small library before I came across MAME (remember the site mame.dk?). Didn't touch RAGE again after that.

Anyway, since R-Type is out, I'll give Stargunner a review.

marko river 22-07-2010 11:02 AM

That's the reviewing spirit :) Anyway, I think that I had same thing, but I wasn't aware of what RAGE is, been MAME man ever since I tried arcade emulation. It was strange to me why the game runs so slow on my computer while newer games works fine. And how can game that old look like arcade version. So I checked what RAGE is and everything made sense then. Too bad there are many arcade hits that were never ported to PC, but they would probably be in CGA or EGA and much worse than the original, as arcade conversions usually were.

Bejelith 23-07-2010 04:11 PM

I think I could try Nicky Boom & Nicky 2, if they're still open for reviewing.
Only thing I found out so far is that the company no longer considers it abandonware, so a "Buy it" link will come along.

Thomme 26-07-2010 10:21 PM

I'll gladly hammer out an X-wing review for you. I'm a bit of a star wars buff and have always wanted to address the inaccuracy of Lucasarts using a B-wing in the first Death Star assault, as it wasn't designed until 4 ABY.

Edit: I recently lost my windows partition, so, this may take me a while to get out. I sure as hell played this game to death in the 90's, but if I'm going to review it, I wanna play it at the time of writing. So, I'll thank you for waiting patiently for my AWESOME review.

Of course. For starters, there's an iPhone remake and another one for PC which are currently being sold. If an official remake is still being sold, I guess the same will go for the original.
Other abandonware sites mentioned it as non-abandonware as well. I sent you a pm with them.

Dave 27-07-2010 11:27 AM

We don't count remakes, technically it's not the same game :). But I think this page is the main reason why it is considered not-abandonware:

http://www.microids.com/en/retrogaming/

They let you play the game from browser, and it's sponsored. I think it falls under "Supported" status.

I suggest you to select another title, we would like to give priority to abandonware games that can be donwloaded from Abandonia :)
Thank you for your help ;)

I'm trying to do it in Linux using Dos Box, but the sound is REALLY jacked up. I'm not sure if it's to do with the Linux or Dos Box itself, but I've been trying to get it to run correctly. I probably need to clock it back or something. These awkward technical issues are always the death of me! But, I should, if all goes well, be able to complete playing the game in a day or two and get a decent review done in a couple more days.

Yes TA it will have its full unwieldly name in the review. :) And as the title.

I shall also do the review for Mixed-Up Mother Goose Enhanced, and screenshots if needed. I will need the archive.

Nice one. :) When you're finished create your own thread here specifying your offers and we'll give you FTP access to upload your stuff, if you haven't received it yet.

I would now like to do the Review and screens for Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession, I will need the archive for it.

ayoeness 12-08-2010 08:25 PM

ahem.

I still intent to finish the review of Larry.

I am horribly sorry it is taking so long, but I have some issues with sitting to long in front of the computer at the moment, since I am having a baby and feeling quite nauseous. The nausea should, I am told, go away eventually, and I will once again be able to play games and write reviews and other such lovely things.

Yes you can, but the gamepage won't have a download link, since the game is still sold at 3D Realms. I don't know what's it doing in the list. I shall remove it.

guilleorochi 31-08-2010 08:12 AM

So should i review only the first episode (shareware)?. Or maybe i can review the whole game driving to a link to get the shareware and buy the other episodes. You know like the reviews of any game you want to know something more about it, indepent of their comercial status. Maybe isnt abandoned yet but is a classic dosgame.

Yes, all the episodes, we don't make pages for the limited shareware versions. :) And we do accept reviews for classic PC games, even if sold.

I am back to help out a little more once again.

I can write a Review for Silent Service but I need the Archive.

Also, I would like it if someone could check the validity of the Old Warez List regarding Allied General and Star General. Strategic Simulations Inc. is gone, and there are a few games on the site that came out after those two, specificly Pacific General and Steel Panthers 3. It would be nice if Abandonia could have the entire original "5 Star General Series" on the site for all to enjoy.

I'll send you the SS archive. Also people, please forget about the Oldwarez List, it's as ancient as Churchill's boots and nobody bothers to update it. Please use the Advanced Search+Requests Forum. In the Requests forum both those titles are approved. However I'm not sure if their archive sizes are within the 150 MB limit.

dkw 05-09-2010 07:49 PM

Well, I am not all that up to date about the features of the site, so I am sorry about asking.
If you have archives for Allied General and Star General, I can take care of those as well. Even though I still have the original CDs for both of them, I can only get Star General to work, using Windows 95 Compatability option.
If you need copies of the CDs, I could provide them but I don't know how to make them into functioning archives.
My problem has always been taking screenshots with old games running in Windows, when I can get them to work.

Allied General CD is 350MB
Star General CD is 218MB
Both of which will need to have stuff removed, or a really good compression program, to fit on the site.

If not, I will get to Silent Service over the next couple days.

Privateer: redrawing offer

I'd like to redraw my offer to write a review for Privateer. I loved it 15 years ago, but after trying to play it again now, I must confess: I just don't get the hang on it. After playing modern games like Freelancer, I can't get used to the controls in the in-flight-scenes any more. Or maybe they're just to complex and my hand-eye-coordination has suffered too much due to old age :omg:

Unfortunately, to me this game has lost much of it's appeal, and it's to fine a game to write a half-hearted review. So, if anyone has the nerves and the reflexes to play it, I'd be happy to let him have the review.

I can contribute the archive, of course. It's the CD-version with full speech and the Righteous Fire add-on. It's 152 MB big, but I managed to tweak the archive so you don't need the CD while playing. So, no mounting the ISO, just copying all the stuff in a folder and running it from DOSBox.

No problem. The size of your cd version is just right. Do you still have the FTP access? We only have a 8 MB archive.

The file is up (it's only 129 MB)! As I said, you don't need to mount an ISO or have a CD in your drive to play. I copied the contents of the CD to the game-folder on the harddisk. As long as you play the game from C:\Privater, it works. Else you will have to change the paths in the config-files. I added a text-file to the archive describing this, too.

After much digging, I found it...however, the problem is, the installation program is demanding the actual cd!

(Having tinkered around with data files a bit when I was growing up, I know that there is a way to make the program stop asking for the CD.)

The question is...how?

[This is my current dilemma as we speak).

TotalAnarchy 10-10-2010 10:52 AM

There are certain programs that can help you crack them. I'm afraid I don't know much about the procedure and which ones should you use.

Done. If you need the game themselves, just say so.

Okay so I just finished Blood and Magic, I'm wondering about the in game movie files though, were they not included in the download, because the intro was definitely missing, but I can see that on youtube...but anyways I'm really curious to know if there was a movie at the end of the game or not.

Well what we have and probably what you have as well is a rip. The version in the ISO Cellar should've been the full one.

Aramazon 15-12-2010 08:14 AM

Judging from a couple comments on the youtube video of the intro, this may have been an issue with the cd version...not a blaring problem, I suppose. It's said that moving the correct file over from the demo version(I remember seeing the intro when I played the demo several years ago) results in the movie showing in this version.

I would be absolutely delighted to do a review for:

Wing Commander Privateer.

I'm really surprised it hasn't been done! :D I'll be pleased to submit something. I'm going to do the review based off the full CD-ROM version (which I have), however if you want me to review SPECIFICALLY the version you wish to put on the site, then I will require someone to send me a copy of that.

Lunar Command

Hey, I got some enjoyment out of this game, and as such I'll be glad to have a go at this little gem of a game as well (And why not add Lunar Commander II to the list? I'll throw it in as a bonus since they're almost exactly the same game... if you don't want a review for that one just chuck it in the bin and It'll be fine)

Zool 2 - review and screenshots

I would like to take this one on however the file I downloaded from the site is "broken". The copy protection bypass works fine and everything seems to be okay during gameplay. Emphasis on the word "seems".

Zool-speak follows, I apologize if the game is not familiar to the reader.

Upon reaching Bulberry Hill (Level two, Stage one), the game will hang and lock very early into the level when your character tries to jump onto a light-bar platform. This happens consistently with either Zool or Zooz as your main character.

I would like to do the review and screenshots, but I don't feel comfortable doing that kind of promotion for a game that doesn't quite work. I reinstalled the game with the same result. I have also tried to find another source on the Internet, but the copies I found acted the same way.

Opinions?
Thanks
Ohne

marko river 24-01-2011 10:17 PM

It's just probably a new easy task for you and 5th ;)

Dave 24-01-2011 10:35 PM

Thanks for the info, we didn't know about it. You are right, it would be not a great thing to promote a broken game. We need to find a better copy or find a solution but I guess it won't be easy.

Maybe it's the crack's fault? Happens when people do things without testing too much.

Ohne Mitleid 25-01-2011 04:09 AM

@marko river - Thank you for the vote of confidence, but I don't think my name should be used in the same sentence as The Fifth, and if it were to be, The Fifth should probably be listed first with my name being listed second.

@Dave - It most certainly has something to do with the crack, but if you looked at the files, you would see something else is unusual. The bulk of the program lies in only two files: the EXE file (2 kb) and then the monster DAT file containing what I think is the actual EXE and data.

The PDF manual download is poor too. This will probably be part of yet another thread. I am thinking if I start enough threads, I can weave myself some new clothes :p

Before I get too far into blah-blah-blah about this, I think I will move all of the matters concerning my questions to another thread(s). :smile2:

And to think this all started in December when I was thinking about some old games I used to wish I could have played when I was young... Umm, I meant younger.

Thanks!

Read the Submissions post for more details.

The Basics:
Go to the offers forum, start a new thread with your name as the subject line and your offer of your review as the body text of the post.

Once the post has been read, one of the Administrators should contact you with information regarding your upload.

Dave 04-02-2011 01:19 PM

I've just answered you, thank you for the review! :)

Ohne Mitleid 08-02-2011 11:31 PM

I would like to request to be assigned the review for Omega, please. Would it be possible to look at the screenshots as well?

If you have an archive, could I have a link, if possible. I already have a copy of the game, but it is usually better to double-check for differences.

Thank you,
Ohne

Dave 09-02-2011 12:24 PM

Well done, you are a review machine :p

Omega has been reserved to you :), the content has been submitted by user Miles about a year ago.
(Game, Manual, Screenshots, Boxshots)

However screenshots should complete the review, so I'm going to send you archive and pictures, in this way you can use them as support of your review.

Hi. Looking through the available games in Abandonia, there are some adventures that doesn't exist. May I write a review for them?

marko river 03-04-2011 09:47 PM

Check Request Games forum to see is the game already requested. If not, open new topic for each game you want to check status. Once request is approved (or if it already is), you are free to review it. Also, you might wanna search through Submissions thread to check is the game perhaps already reviewed, but still not added to the site. That's about it.

You can review games that are rejected, but game won't be added to the site as long as it is protected. As for invalid requests, there is no need to review them.

Phantom 03-04-2011 11:11 PM

Ok, thanks for the heads up.

Dave 07-04-2012 11:13 AM

Sure, I'm sending you a pm :)

And please don't forget to check our guidelines:
Submitting Content to Abandonia: Here's How

Thanks for your help!

Smiling Spectre 10-04-2012 01:04 PM

Funny, but I discovered that I need to ask for access to Frontier files. :) I am quite sure about game itself, but there are two details (copy protection and superspeed bug) that must be verified with "actual" Abandonia copy. :)

Dave 10-04-2012 04:27 PM

I've sent you a pm :OK:

Capo 15-04-2012 01:34 AM

You already have a review for mission critical ?

Dave 15-04-2012 02:37 PM

No, I can reserve it to you if you want because lot of time has passed since the reservation.
We have added it to ISO Cellar because it was way too big, but we could use the review in any case.

I'm answering you here, actually it's a good idea but we can't do it right now because we haven't a way to redirect the download link to the Cellar like you proposed keeping the "Get It" button.
I can ask it to the technician if it's doable, but only once he'll be back from holidays :)

Could I please review Death Drome? I'd need the game files though.

Dave 20-04-2012 10:47 AM

Please check your PM inbox, thanks for your help.

Prisoner of Ice and Age of Wonders are mine.

Dave 04-06-2012 11:04 AM

Age of Wonders is sold at GoG

I don't think we have the archive of Call of Cthulhu - Prisoner of Ice, or are you offering it? It's approved btw:

I am using my own copy of Age of Wonders and Prisoner of Ice. It shouldn't be a problem to add even it is sold on GOG, as long as it is with a link. It's a classic PC game after all. :p

Dave 05-06-2012 10:31 AM

Upload priority will be given to titles considered abandonware though.

Is there a real list of games needing a review?
In first post it says that names of the games can be found in different posts in this thread, but then some of them already got done and other are "reserved".

Should I go post by post checking which title isn't done yet?

Would be much better to have them all in one place and just remove them from the list after they are submitted by anyone.

TotalAnarchy 18-09-2012 07:20 PM

The third post in this thread mostly contains games available to review.

Panthro 18-09-2012 08:44 PM

It's been a while, but I figure I might review a few more games.

I'll start with Premier Manager 2, if that's OK.

I found an archive, but I was wondering if the FTP details are the same?

Dave 19-09-2012 04:34 PM

Reserved to you, thanks for your help!
FTP details have been changed in the last months, contact me or one of the staff once done :)

Do you need the game or do you have your own copy?

stgamer 21-02-2013 09:34 PM

I need it.
Thanks

Sent. Don't hesitate to ask if you have problems or questions. :)

Your account has a bit of a pattern replying to old threads... with the replies pertaining to "your site" or casinos with fast payouts... what's the sudden motivation for that?

Smiling Spectre 22-05-2021 09:27 PM

I deleted this messages. Just in case. Maybe it's a real person, but... irrelevant anyway.
