Hello all I just thought I had better bring this up before any potential troubles at my end.

I'm a V.I.P. member of another forum due to starting up a freeware games section for the V.I.P. forum for Freeware/Abandonware games and I have been using Abandonia and Reloaded for links (but posting my own reviews), now I just thought I had better check your linking procedures since I've seen using impeded DL links (giving credit to your sites of cause)... but I just thought that this might be contrary to any regulations you have, or simply what you would prefer.

If this is the case tell me what you want done and I will happily change links and do what is necessary to sort out any problems. I've downloaded and enjoyed too many games from both sites for me to want to screw you over or been seen as possibly screwing you over.

From what I know, stealing links from one site or another is always seen as a very bad action on about any site owner I know. The problem is not really in linking to a site, and thus adding to it's publicity... It's stealing their bandwith without their persmission which really tick them off.

You ought to talk directly to Kosta about this, who is the owner of this site. It is with him that you'll be able to discuss the matter and get to a conclusion and he may of course have a different oppinion. If you want an advice right now though, I hope you're at least linking to the review page instead of directly linking to the download itself. That would be the bare minimum if you ask me, as then the surfers will also have access to the user-made review as well as the banners on the top of the page which add some little revenu that help pay the site bandwith at the end of the month. :)

I will second this advice. Especially for Abandonia (it seems a fair thing to do).

However you should know for Abandonia Reloaded most freeware games there have links to the site of the developers. Not all, but most of them link to developers download site and those games are not placed on Abandonia servers.

Linking to the site is good, :) linking from the site so that people cliking on the links get files or whatever without getting to browse the site is a big big NO-NO called leeching. :butcher:

OK, thanks for clearing that up... I didn't think about it until I had a few of them up.. changing the links now.

EDIT: OK, the links are shifted to the review page and I have added a thread giving main page links and an encouragement for donations. If there are any other problems with this please let me know. :kosta:

As I said, you really should try speaking with Kosta directly. You could always send him a PM on this board... ;)

Well uhm, you can make yourself some coffee or something.

Though you should probably try to contact Kosta via some other channel rather than by PM because he is busy doing work for the beta site and who know when he'll read this PM.

ScytheKnight 17-10-2007 09:38 PM

Well as he keeps his e-mail private (and I don't blame him) I don't know of any other way of contacting him since I don't use any of the IM programs he has contacts listed for.

Keep things as they are now.
You will get answer from Kosta sooner or later.
