Since this board is becoming chaotic, I ask you to report bugs into this topic.
It's impossible to manage all those multiple threads...

Every time I post I have to wait for a moderator to approve my posts, and so it appears on the site hours after I post it, which makes this forum practically unusable to me.

The forum no longer allows to display only open/locked/moved/participated/hot topics. It was a very convenient thing to have.

Is this just for bugs or also for missing features etc.?

site does not reset the password propperly - email is not sent to receipient (same for me and my bro). we believe this is due to the fact that in previous forums we had the option to receive email from other persons disabeled.


new registration sends e-mail instantly.

I liked the "View New Posts" button and it's apparently gone. :(

When replying and so you're taken to an apparently blank page and you must scroll up to see anything. EDIT: This happens when navigating the forum within the site's frame, but not when doing it directly (swtiching bookmark now).

A small thing, but an annoying little bugger that makes it hard to stay updated on new posts:
The "topic read" cookies aren't working. If I jump straight from a topic and out to the main forum, the topic is still marked as unread, and sometimes when I log out and back in, previously read topics are now marked as unread again.

2) The frames in the topics are not working properly. When jumping to last unread post, the topic is stuck in it's frame and won't show the top with the forum tree links. I have to press the middle mouse button and move it, then I get the whole topic page.

That would benefits everyone. to search where the Control-Central or pm is too complicated.

One More Thing: Could it too make it so that if i clicks on a Topic. it automatic leads to least Posts. and it i hits the return-Button it return to the previous position and not scrolled down. (that is annoying).

Are you sure that's not your browser using a cached version of the page when hitting the Back button? I think Firefox v2 started to work that way whereas FF1 didn't, because it results in way faster browsing. To be sure refresh the page.

When clicking on any of the member names in the forum, I'm taken to their site profiles, even though the second (old style) control panel suggests there should be a forum profile... somewhere.

yes i am using IE. I forgot to mention that. Even it works with Opera, Firefox, etc it should work with IE too.

haha, try coding a site and your head is gonna blow while you try to optimise something for all the browsers. and IE btw ignores lots of w3c standarts and does the things in it's way

I liked having the 'Find Posts by......', it was handy having that. But it seems to have gone now. :cool:

i agree with frodo, and for some things it was essencial.

btw, now it gives me the main page in german by default o_O . i have to go the abandonia.com/en for real version of abandonia

also: when working in this god forsaken frames, sometimes it just doesn't show the scrollbar (if it even logs you in via durpal at first, of course, cause sometimes it just doesn't)

The "not a member yet? register here! forgot your password? reset here!" text at the top of the page is a bit too long and forces a horizontal scrollbar to appears. Horizontal scrollbars are annoying.

I like the new look of the site ... but I've noticed that the options "site navigation" and "featured games" are placed too much on the right side of the box resulting on falling out of it a little. Not a big deal but kind of annoying for a perfectionits like me :P

i have it as well and i run linux.

OK when I browse the forum from the site using the frame (eew) the pages are scrolled away. But when I browse the forum directly with no frames, the forum forgets my logging.

Oh and I deleted my avatar (because pixel art was not meant to be resized), and it doesn't show in my profile page (as intended), but it's not gone from my posts.

First... The "your post need to be verified by a moderator" thing make it pretty pointless to post in this forum now. And I seem to have noticed that a few new members don't have that problem. Or maybe it's only me?

Second, almost everytime I enter a page I need to scroll up to the beginning of the page because it's bent on either fowarding me to the bottom of the page or the middle. For no good reason I can think of.

Can you guys at least tell me if anyone else has the problem of having their every post checked by a moderator? It's really really really really annoying! :mad:

The one I hate the most is the reply feature.

When I press reply the text window will be at the top, but I will be shown the last post - so I have to scroll all the way up to start typing (unless I use fast reply, which I really don't like).

Can you be moved up to the reply window by default?

Tree structure in the games section on the "main site" (yeah, I know that has changed too):

I looked up the first genre, "Action", then the first game there, "A Nightmare...."
, then clicked the "boxshots", then clicked the "A Nightmare..." link above. That took me to "Featured Games". Another test, but this time I clicked on "action" ("games" the third time) and it took me to an empty game page.

The site and forum won't work in IE and Opera right now it seems - half the screen is cut off - I don't even see the submit button!

Now I chose another avatar and it shows in my profile but my posts still show the first I uploaded, which is crappy because it's resized from the original 100x100 to the current limit 85x85. (Anyway Kosta said he would raise the limit up to the old 100x100.)

Seems I'm stuck with the first avatar I selected. Anyone else tried to change his?

It's quite hidden, you have to enter into a forum -> Forum Jump -> User Control Panel.

-move the mouse to thread tools/Search this thread etc. and all the other overlays appear as well

on debian4/ff2 they never disappear! only a reload fixes this

bug: game filters don't work as planned because i tried to find the games = for example horror > first person > submit then results are returned as none - this regardless which section are you in - it likely affects all

the game filter isn't working yet and kosta knows about this- the site is still beta

3. Click "Edit".
4. Click "Save".

Not sure if you can consider that a bug, but the board don't automatically update on your signature anymore. I'm guessing it's the same about avatars.

it's frames=/ unless kosta changes whole forums layout there is nothing you can do about it (well you could try different browser)

Paco restoring the full vbulletin header is unlikely.
Afterall the idea of abandonia is that it´s profiles are used throughout the whole site instead of just the forum. For that reason the pms of the forum won´t come back after the problems of it are fixed and were the pms for the whole site introduced.

This is a big step forward, in about 3 days we passed from 11880 to 12,466 members.
I would say that the missing features are a small price to be paid, however most of them will soon be reinserted.

Is it possible to add the classic control panel to the top bar? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Right now, you need to go to a thread, then "jump" to the control panel, but yeah, the old control panel would be good to have up there where everyone can find it.

Question: Will the "forum profile" be viewable in the future?

ok, now i'm pissed. the "forum is read" is completely screwed. i have went through the last same topics at least 3 times and after reloading abandonia after some time it shows that forum is unread again. and it sometimes just chooses which ones i read and which ones i don't. sometimes you have to click to the unread forum to see that nothing is unread in there and then when you come back, only then it marks that it's read. and it behaves just randomly it seems. (yes i refresh, i don't press back button only)

Seems it's related to all the helpfull 'announcement' posting in all the subs.

I stood logged in for about 15 minutes having AB in the back.
When returned and refreshed the entire forum was marked read. :confused: Damn, I'm a quick reader... ;)
And the "read-cookies" don't seem to work. Sometimes I read all the topic in a forum and it's still shown unread in the main site.
EDIT: Wow, even better! I read all topics and added this post. And the only forum containing new posts is the one I was posting in!
EDIT 2: Sometimes I can't scroll up all the way up. I seems jammed somewhere in the posts. Won't move further up. I think it's annoying that most pages are displayed with the bottom first. You wouldn't do that when you are welcoming somebody, right? Bottom first...? :D

Bugs in the website
 

If you click at the keywords in the overview of a game (e.g. http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/738/Caesar.html), in this case sold or strategy, it doesn't open an overview of all the games of that certain category. Instead you are shown an overview-site of a game "strategy", which of cource doesn't exist.

The breadcrumbs don't work as well most of the time.

I think the best place for the "mark all as read" would be in the header of the forum next to the "new posts", that way both would be present in either the index page or the search results one. Right now you can search for new posts and mark all as read from the index, but once you're browsing the new posts you have to go back to the index to mark them as read. :(

Yesterday I reset my old password, got a temp password, logged in, changed to a new password, and yet today - I can't login. :confused:

Oh my, this is the first time I look at the site with IE from my son's lappy instead of my own PC with FF.

just try getting new firefox on your son's lappy, it won't log you in to the forums=/

Heh well I'm still using IE 6 and besides some odd gaps as has been mentioned earlier, all the links are working fine, more or less.

And just tried FF too, no problems logging in and staying in, FF just released another update yesterday _r.u.s.s. try updating and see if maybe that helps.

it just sometimes randomly logs me in/sometimes not when i type in /vbullet link manualy after going to abandonia.com
ie logs me in always (of course, when it shows the login bar to type in my name>>)

Firefox v 1.5xxx works with the forum for me. v 2.x was too unstable when I last tried using it, so I didn't bother upgrading.

Latest FF here too, and it looks semi-ok. The frames are F-ed up, and can someone tell me if the buttons are supposed to be blue?

Maybe so, buttons are blue in both IE and Firefox on my end.

I've just updated to the latest firefox and now I regularly get the wrong language content on the site. It always says english on the button at the top but I often get the news feed for other languages.

I also find when new forum pages load I end up in a random place on the page instead of at the top.

I get that as well, and I use IE7. :(

If you once set "Do not use an avatar", you will never ever have an avatar again - at least it seems so for me.

I had problems with my avatar, but now it works.
Strange, I used that option many times but I didn't have that problem.

As far as I remember the old site was about 3 years old and several bugs were solved because all the possible problems showed up in the meantime.

This one is still under developement.
However in about two weeks we passed from about 11800 members to 14693.
Impressive I would say.

Or 2893 members had a non-valid mailadress and were obliged to register again.

i am still using this new account because my old one didn't send me any password (eventhough my email address is OK).

when i try to enter to a forum through the page of the description of a game, it sends me to another thread and does not let me scroll down the page.
when i click the forums button at the top of the page it does the same thing.
i finally entered registering again (already done 3 times), and does not appear anywhere a command to logout.
any help to know how to logout from the forums?

you can logout from forums by logging out from page, the accounts are linked.

btw, links for Norton Commander are all brogen (maybe other programs too)

I tried some links but they are working.

The View Forum Leaders gives me a blank page (latest FF).

I can make it show but it starts to cause humongous CPU and RAM usage. It seems that it shows every member, not just the admin and mods? Not sure. I've reproduced the bug a couple of times at least in Opera, and the time I tried to open the page at the same time in Opera, IE and Firefox, my computer got so unresponsive because of the strain of resources that I reset it.

Ok, now I got three groups there:
Mods
Admins
Custom Title

The VIPs are gone from that list and I get a very, VERY long list of members, presumaby those who can now have ther own custom made titles.

Now seems all ok.
Custom Title group should be hidden I think.

when i login through the main page of abandonia and then go to forums, i can not scroll down the forums page and seems as if i was not logged in at the forums.
if i log in from the forum itself, the it look as if i was not loged at the abandonia page where al the games are, only at the forum, and can not see the top of the page with the abandonia image and the horizontal menu.

it seems it is a problem with the reloading of the pages, or maybe with opening tabs ? now i reloaded a page of a game and it appears i am logged in.

When clicking on a profile, I got a totally different one, according to the user name.

Ehrm, any chance of getting a "search by joining date" in the member list? It was one of the very newest members (about half an hour ago), but I just had to forget to make notes of the name. but I was re-directed (?) to dragon-tmd. Is it possible to have one nick for the forum and one for the site?

EDIT: Advanced search is no good when the member hasn't made any posts, is it? After all, it's a forum search for posts/topics by users, not a member list search. At least I couldn't locate the advanced search options on the members list.

Thanks. Only one thing: How the heck do I access that list/search (seriously)? I don't know if it's my browser, but the ONLY forum search I can do is the post/topic search, coz if I go to "members" under the "site navigation" tab, I can only apply those filters, but I can't make an advanced search, and there is no "member list" that I can find anywhere on the forum.

The forum doesn't work in firefox or opera on linux!
I can only see the uppe two threads of each forum page, the rest of the screen is blank! Since it does work under internet explorer 6 installed on ubuntu via ie4linux, it has to be a site bug. And I don't have to tell why i hate IE6, do I?:)

It works in FF 2.0 for me, just try to open it in a new window or tab.

There is no log in option at top of page. The 'Dedicated To Classic Dos Games' and 'Select Language' texts are just shown as black squares.

When I 'Jump To' my control panel through the forums, it won't accept my password.

We use IE6 at work.

Seems to happen at random.

I've found his game at requests forum but he isn't able to answer me, I told him to try with HOME & END buttons, but I don't know if it works.

Sometimes happens to me the opposite problem (I can't scroll up), the only way is to use those buttons.

Hello, it´s seems to be a bug in the pieces of eight count, for example: now Seabstianos is in the lead with 9405 pieces of eight!!!:eek: but when a look on myself I have 75 pieces of eight, just as it should be

It's not a bug, those guys with lot pieces of eights have submitted screenshoots, reviews and games.
This is justice ;)

Seems like the PoE system is being brought into action. Some submissions still are not registered correctly, though (there's at least one review and a dozen games I submitted that don't register on my profile).

Chatroom not working for me
 

I've tried several times but I get the "Error on page" notice on the status bar and I never see any text - what I have typed or from others. Just a blank area.

And the trivia game showed the screen shot from the prior quiz when the page loaded, so I answered it wrong. Then it refreshed to the correct picture. It needs to have an expiration set on it.

And I lost my VIP status... but I guess I can live with that! :D

Please note that,
"Rick dangerous pack" and "holliday lemmings pack 1991- 1994" games have the year of release wrong (one number is missing).

Seems no body noticed this before (I guess not too many people wanting to help out...).

The HOW CAN YOU HELP US feature on the main site doesn't work. It says Click here to find out, but there's nothing to click on and nowhere to go from there.

No, that's not a mistake. Those games weren't actually a pack, but separate games that were released in different years. So the last number is missing, because whoever updated them (as a pack) couldn't decide when the year should be. that's why it is preferable to add games (even if they belong to the same series) individually - but possible at the same time.

Already mentioned this in another thread and it seems to be a bug others are finding now. cant select my city when upadating my profile cities seem to be disappearing and you cant save your profile with just country and state saved.

A tiny but confusing bug:
I looked at the Discworld discussion, and opened the DW game page and downloaded it (in a different tab). When I got back on the main forum and looked at the olnile list, it told me I was reading "Request for custom titles"...

I'm sure the quize does't work its definately magic pockets and it says thats incorrect (did refesh the page to make sure i was seeing the correct screenshot)

I'm sure it works, and yesterday's game wasn't Magc Pockets. That one was a few days earlier.
See, the problem is that the images are cached and if you have visited the main site before, your machine will display the quiz image present in its cache. Refreshing the page fixes the problem.

Using IE6, the "login" windows above at right doesn't appear so I was in trouble finding how to login until I use mozilla

I'm getting lots of

mixed with non working searches for games in both the reviews and the oldwarez list.

I am currently having a problem with the forum where only the first item on a page is visable, so if there are 10 pages to a thread then I can only see 10 responses to that thread as I can only see the first one on each page.

Hope this makes sense.

I think this is a problem with the coding itself, as ther threads are there, it's just that there are no scroll bars to scroll down the list, so anything printed off page is not accessable.

I've tried to track and reproduce the avatar bug. I can change my avatar for another .PNG, but if I change it for a .GIF for example, it changes in my profile but not in my posts (alreadly refreshed). For example the posts show http://www.abandonia.com/files/members/1/6590-thumb.png while the profile shows http://www.abandonia.com/files/members/1/6590.gif right now. As I said if I upload a .PNG instead of a .GIF, the posts' avatar is updated all right, the posts show a 6590-thumb.png and the profile a 6590.png, but both correspond to the same latest image. There's a problem with the file extensions.

it should be www.abandonia.com/vbullet/.....
you can try writing this address on your browser and the full forum should come. hope they will solve it soon anyway

I'm having a similar porblem: (using the IE6)

When I request abandonia.com the forum won't load completely. It's cut off. There is a line on the bottom of the browser and it won't continue loading.

Requesting www.abadonia.com doesn't show this error.

I can't load "View forum Leaders" correctly, it gives me a script error.
The problem is given by "Custom Title" group, it should not be visible I think.

Your access was reset to default just as everyone else's has been. I'll look into it as soon as I can get back into admin panel again (the damn thing keeps resetting my password at the least expected moments).

That's not a bug. Posting in some sections will not increase your post count. This is to prevent spamming for post count.

In the first post of any game thread if you click on the "review and download" link it takes you to the complete list of games. Then if you try to use the game search from there it doesn't work.

Also, related to the Quiz, it's the second time I input the correct answer, yet the system tells me it was incorrect. First with Command & Conquer and now with the current one (which I shouldn't disclose till it's over). I couldn't have mispelt it, as I always type in a part of the answer and then fill the rest with the correct option from the drop-down list. Are answers incorrectly written there? Perhaps the system expects '&' and the list uses 'and' or viceversa, or something.

I'm also having troubles with the Quiz mentioned by the above two posts

The "game filters" in the lists of "featured games" almost never work. It seems though that it's because most games haven't been assigned their keywords. That's going to be one tough job if it's ever done... if it isn't, the game filters serve no purpose. :/

I also noted, that you need to be logged in to post in the game discusion forum (which does mean more people registring and not posting - but also less people acctually giving comments, because it's a bother to log in just to say something about a game).

My user name link, post count, and user image don't seem to be working properly. I've made several posts since I joined (and I don't believe they were in threads that aren't counted towards post counts), and I've uploaded a user image. I also noticed that I have no join date listed. Is this normal for a newbie here, or did I hit the forum bug jackpot?

At least this last post of yours was made as a guest, you have to log in or maybe even register in the first place. When the site got renewed, everyone had to go through a new registering process, although the postcount and stuff was saved somehow.

For me that would be fun, but nobody gives me the chance to do it. :cry:

Well, i've got two remarks:
-First, the Abandonia advertisement overlaps the list of game names possible to the quiz. I've made a post in the proper thread about two bugs related to the quiz too.
-Secondly, when using the game filter the 'perspective' tag is searched not as perspective but as genre. Not sure if made sense. Example:in the filter menu, choose 'Arcade' and '3rd person'. you get:

2 results for: // genre: Arcade // genre: 3rd Person // sort by: title

You see? genre: 3rd Person. Not sure if it influences the search since they look it as keywords.

But hey, great work with the new site. i really like the new features.

OK, the first problem I mentioned before - I can see the new news segment only while logged in, but can't see it after I logged out (refreshing doesn't help).

I still have to scroll up to post a reply. Is it really impossible to click post reply and you immediately get to the text window (without scrolling through all the previous posts to the top of the page).

And the last problem is something I also mentioned it before and now I only see it in a few forums - not all. The forum navigation is screwed up as soon as there are a few more posts made. The root doesn't show up any more, so I can't go back to that particular forum after posting there (see the picture).

Nope, this is a common bug. The English version of Abandonia is accessed by www.abandonia.com/en/ - plain www.abandonia.com takes you to a random language version.

The beginnings of pages are cut off for me like for some other guy, too. I couldn't read his name since it was cut off... :D

The forum is in English only (except a few rare exceptions, like the translator's page - but they're not seen by the general public anyway).
Only the reviews (and possible game manuals and walkthroughs) get translated.

I didn't really know where to report this, but it seems to be in relation to the last few posts anyways.

For kicks I looked at the french version of the site. While looking at my list of recommended games, I realized that many games have absolutly ridiculous categorization... Like for example, 4D Boxing is filed under board games???

This is not really a bug but a suggestion.
The number of languages available should maybe be cut down to 4 or 5, I see most are not updated anyway and to keep all the language versions at the same level would require a massive number of staff members.

Well, considering that all the translators are doing this because they want to contribute, and that they aren't paid, I see no reason to cut down on the staff, as you put it. Since they aren't paid, it doesn't really make sense to talk about costs vs efficiency. Beside, with the overhaul of Abandonia recently, I know there have been and are problems for our translators, but the bugs will be sorted out with time. Last, I think we should consider any translation a bonus given by those who want to do it.

I'm not suggesting getting rid of translators if they are contributing translations ,but some languages hebrew and turkish just 2 i've seen dont seem to have any updates and should prehaps be removed.

In order for all the languages to have updates every day would require a massive amount of work thats why I suggested just a few languages getting there updates then increase the number of language options, when there are enough translators to do the job.

There used to be a requrement of 100 translations before a language would even appeare (and the requrements kept going higher before a language section would open up) before the redesign. But now the language also has something to do with the registration, so it seems some things haven't been fully cleared up yet.

like seb said, each language has to reach specific number of reviews translated from the english version. and all the languages you see have the needed amount. i really don't see the reason why should be these, reached by hard work, cut off

Not a Bug but a site suggestion: The "No Go"button displayed on game pages that are ESA protected should be replaced with a "No Download" button to prevent confusion and endless questions in the forum and prehaps the new button could be a link to an explanation of the ESA rules.

Maybe a bug at Abandonia or a bug at Reloaded, but the recent events of Reloaded at the main page of Abandonia are not so recent...

Never mind that, I think SC3 is for DOS after all (haven't downloaded to check). I could run it natively because I had Win98 at the time...

I don't know how far back this goes (at least the last ten or so) but when you try to add some of the most recent games to your favorites it will always add the game Black Sect instead. Weird thing is that when you go to the Black Sect page it's Add To Favorites link is still there. The only way to remove it from your favorites is to go to the game that you originally wanted to add and remove that one which will actually remove Black Sect. Confused? :wondering:

Damn Google's and Yahoo's and MSN's caches are all from after the page was screwed.

There never was stuff for this game. I changed the ware status from protected to abandonware due to the 15-years-rule, and that created an entry.

The rss feed has most of the links as relative links - in other words, it links to /en/games/23421/Cyberlaw.html instead of http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/23421/Cyberlaw.html

This means that when I read it in bloglines, none of the links work, since they take me to http://www.bloglines.com/en/games/23421/Cyberlaw.html which, of course, isn't a valid URL.

I am beginning to be quite tired of this bug.

Sometimes I get a page other than english on the main page. Thing is, it's not french! If there was a single reason I'd accept (even though I hate it) that a web page decide to show me anything else than english would be that it's trying to fulfill my language preference in my browser. It's not the case here, and if it was coming from a site I don't know I'd immediatly flag it as a mediocre amateur site...

Other times, when I click on the site navigation tag up left without selecting an option in the menu, it will take me to the exact same language page. If I select any other option, the english version of the site come back to life on my browser.

Very annoying.

On my member profile page, it lists "Black Sect" as one of my favorite games, even though I have never added it, never been to its description page (until just now) and in fact never even played it. I went to the edit page to remove it, but only the five games I actually chose were listed there for editing. WTF? Is someone at abandonia trying to tell me I should play Black Sect? Maybe someone disapproved of my other favorites? Perhaps my choices were too obvious and mainstream... :amused:

Also, something is fishy about my number of pieces of eight, as it says 172 but it should presumably be a multiple of five -- I've only ever gotten them by guessing the screenshot of the day, and one time I got 40 points for submitting Last Crusade boxshots.

Neither of these are really important things, of course, but they just make me curious.

The "Black Sect" thing is a bug, it happened to other guys too.
About "pieces of eight" it is all normal, it's a new system born to reward regular members and to check how many of them come here only once.

This is a very minor bug. In my profile there is a blank entry in my favorite games section. I don't think an entry is simply not showing up, it's just plain blank. Not a high priority, but it is quite annoying. :notrust:

The best way to describe it would be to simply suggest looking at my profile. It should show up to anyone who looks. (?) The blank area shows up to me directly below "Betrayal at Krondor", and to the left of "Final Fantasy - Endless Nova". My guess is that Betrayal at Krondor has such a long "perspective" description that it can't display correctly. If that's true, I suppose one way to fix it would be to allow larger entries in the favorites section.

Yes, it's possible to search by using the game discusion, but it's inconvenient... there really should be the search option on the main site.

I mean, people who aren't members and didn't log in, or simply come for the games (it's the most attractive feature of the site) will not want to go through game posts, they'd want to search from the main game site (without having to go tot he forum at all).

I don't know if anyone else has this issue, but my avatar refuses to get changed. It's been this way for a while. It showed that that I had a new avatar in my Control Panel, but in the forums and in my profile it's the same. I even ticked the box that said "Do not use an avatar", but that didn't help either.

I found another bug. From what I can tell so far, it seems to be in the forums only. Most of the time when I try to scroll the page with the arrow keys IE6 will crash.

Yeah, I know, IE6 is old. I really don't like IE7 though. Someday I might switch to Firefox. Anyway, might want to look over the code and see what's up with scrolling.

If by that you meant the link you gave me, and the one you get into by going into a forum, scrolling the "Jump to forum" and selecting "User control panel", then yes.

Had a similar problem awhile back when I changed my avatar I think the previous one was in my pc's cache try a refresh. we mite be seeing your correct avatar.

I did some tests, as you can see I'm only able to change the site's avatar but not the forum one.
I solved a similar problem to "Gnome94", he wasn't able to change both of them, after he opened a new topic his profile displayed the correct avatar/signature.
I think these kind of problems are related to the site, it doesn't update new images.

Now that I looked, I can change my picture here , but not anywhere else. What's more, my title and signature did change. It's just my avatar that's not working. Or at least it's not working for me, as Doink pointed out. This is what you should see:

In "Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures", the dwonload button appears in English version but a "ESA No Go" pic appears in the Polish version.

Also, the Polish version seems to lack Polish letters (they got replaced with ?'s). The same apparently happened to all the pre-Redesign Polish translations! :(

When viewing box shots, if you try clicking on the game's name in the "home > games > RPG > Lord Of The Rings > boxshots" line under the menu, you get dumped to the alphabetic list of all games.

I've had the Pieces of Eight problem too. I used to have about 26, but now I only have 1.

The "vbullet"-forum looses the cookies (after some time F5 and I'm not logged in anymore) whereas the site-integrated forum doesn't. :weird:

I can't seem to change my avatar. i've tried changing it in the 'edit' under 'my account' and under 'avatar' in the User Control Panel. It does show the new avatar in there, but not here on the forum and stuff.

You need to refresh the page. Try pressing f5.

If that doesn't help, press Ctrl+F5

The server doesn't... the forum does, and it's a result of bugged data insertion from the site database to the forum database.

Buddy... there are only a handful of admins on the forum. Most of them are too occupied with living their own lives to be around more often than once or twice a week.

So far I manage to check what's going on almost every day, but that doesn't mean I'm at your beck and call 24/7 !!!

Fixing the registered users only takes logging in to the admin controls and like three clicks after that, but there still needs to be an admin to do it.

Your case is not the only one like that. It seems the same function that fixes broken registrations also updates the forum avatars.

The drop down thingy on the box shot quiz still isn't working. I have refreshed the page and I have waited quite a while for it to kick in, but no go.:unsure: ...Sal

OK, I couldn't believe this!!!

I'm not using my computer at the moment, since I'm not at home, still I wanted to update an extra for today... The thing is, this computer has only got IE as a browser (I'm installing firefox now) and what happened???

I could not enter the news text! It recognised the frame of the window to input the text, but it wouldn't let me write in it!!!

Imagine being able to do anything with a new thread - except write any text in it.

Now this has got to be one of the most absurd things I've come across and one of the reasons I really hate IE, but hey... I don't like installing things into other people's computers (I'm making an exception right now).

I know, we had to make our own website this fall (some general course in post graduate studies on English literature), and lazy as I am I used the tool I got for free through our school - the Microsoft Publisher and I had many problems getting the site to appear normal while browsing it through Firefox... but imagine my surprise Netscape Navigator, Safari, Opera and Firefox (although with many differences) are much more compatable then IE is with any of them.

This is a know bug an Admin needs to run a script to correct it, think they run it every couple days so it'll come right.

Being back after a long time and skimming through my old reviews, I have noticed the same bug for some of the games I did review in english / german. The english version provides a good download, while the german site says "no go". Maybe someone can take a look at this, it's quite annoying IMO.

This seems to be a major issue on the new site.

BTW, I've also got a new bug to list. The status of Power Dolls has changed to Protected on the Spanish version. When trying to edit the game's status I see it is set to AW, so it technically should be downloadable but is not.

On Internet Explorer, everytime I hover the mouse over a "news block" that block dissapears. It's pretty annoing.

I don't really know. It could be that the site used CSS features supported by IE7 but not IE6. There has to be someone else with IE6 who can say if it works for him.

I noticed that since the beta site but I don't think they'll ever care about W3C standards. Who cares about standards, just don't use anything but IE or FF and you'll be fine. Except when you're not. Anyway there are many CSS 2 features that IE7 doesn't support compared to other browsers. It's supposed to be addressed with IE8. Can't tell if IE6 supported even many less, since the problem is that not enough work was made in that field from 6 to 7.

I think that's a bit the problem, aslong you have peeps working for free or from a feeling of involvement, or personal interesse, you can spend all the time you need to bugrun.

Things change when you must pay them, time is money, you only will invest time/money if it's absolutely needed in a site as Abandonia.
Economics instead of love for ol'games.....

But you're assuming that they know about standards and they don't want to implement them. Perhaps they know that they exist and no better. They just code their crap and try it in IE or FF or if you're lucky both until it fits. When they have to debug there may be different bugs for each browser, and the workarounds they use for fixing are specific to the quirks and non-standard features supported by each one.

If they followed standards they would have to validate in w3.org only, which gives debugging info instead of when debugging is done by trial and error and the thing just doesn't work. Also standard code is cleaner and more maintainable. The resulting layout should be more or less the same in all standards-compliant browsers. And at the same time browsers would be encouraged to fully support standards and to stop offering particular non-standard features.

The problem is that the human resources people who hire web developers of course know even less about standards, so they don't value it in the curricula, and they won't value more a guy who codes standard than a guy who codes garbage, as they should. (But some day, web standards will turn into a hype just like object-oriented programming, they'll all be fired LOL.)

man, i don't know where you live but human resources people who hire web devs are usually from a web dev company.. and they know standarts. every semi decent, even crappy web developer companies follow standarts, every trained web developer knows the standarts. it's a basic for web dev business. and all the browsers should too. this is why is IE so much retarded (also this). and standarts are very important for browser developers too. people who say that standarts are nothing important, or omissible, are amateurs and apparently don't understand the matter

it's like writing a book in improper grammar or trying to draw "modern art" when you don't understand art at all

of course that home users and amateur html fanatics probably won't care about standarts but it's understandable since it's just their hobby. there are gazzilions of fanfiction and amateur writers with improper grammar and styling as well

This is weird. Every time I look at TFH's profile and press the Back button of FF3, it throws me back to TFH's profile.

Problem with Downloading
 

Is there a problem with the downloading of these games? I am wanting to download Abandoned Places. I click on the download game link and it seems to take a while to go to the download page. Once I am there and click on the "Get It" icon, I get a "page cannot be displayed" error.
I would appreciate some assistance.

Another BUG that annoys me is, that my default language is English. And sometimes when I go on the homapge, it gives some totally random language. Ihad portugesse, slovenian etc.

I wanted to submit a game, via the Contact Form, but when i click on it(in the answer to the FAQ) i get sent to the "All Games" section.

I find myself hardly coming here any more - because I get so angry with this sites software - I will just list my biggest bugbear:

This is the ONLY site I go to where if I post a message in the thread and tick 'get notifications' I get the email, it has the link built in, it takes me to the thread and the message concerned - but then says I have to log in and logging in takes me to my profile page!!!!! This means I need to go back to the forums, find the thread and the post I wanted to reply to, and only then can I reply!!!!

Given the above, why would I come to this site?! Why would I bother to post a message?! Why would I even THINK of being in a debate with someone in a thread or provide ongoing help to someone?!

I don't understand why you have a notification option when you don't have automatic log-in so that posts can be made immediately! I have to go to a couple sites that don't have notification and they are both very quiet compared with those sites that do it properly! IGN is taking over from Gamespot in forum use because of this.

A new site called G.O.G. is opening in September/October. They will be selling old classic games via download. They will also have a forum for retro PC gamers. If they get their site right, sites like this will have their forums wither on the vine.

I still get the odd reply email from posts I made weeks/months ago (mostly under the previous software) and I always click in the email link to see if this problem has been fixed. It never has. Even though this has been mentioned more than one in the last couple of months.

I find myself going to HOTU more often and other retro sites and now seldom come back here. It's just too hard to be a regular part of the forums because of the above problem.
