After I have installed Java Software (I needed it for a program), some of Windows XP's features got 'broken'. For example look in the following screenshots:

The same thing happened to me some time ago, on my old computer with Windows 98 SE. How can I fix this? Why is this happening?

I've never encountered problems like this after installing the JRE from SUN... Sorry.

Also, I've just remembered that Internet Explorer stopped using java after I installed JRE on my old computer, and guess what: it stopped using it on this computer also. Now, if I want to go to abandonia.com through IE (which I don't :P ), I get stuck at "Trying to detect your screen resolution settings... If your browser doesn't support javascript and you don't get redirected within a few seconds, please click HERE".

That's strange!

I have WinXP pro with Java installed and I never had such kind of problems...

Does it occour with every version of Java runtimes?

Abi79 11-08-2006 06:44 AM

I haven't tried yet earlier versions of Java runtimes. I'll try them, but first let me show you what I got when I went to http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

(I get the same thing in both Firefox and IE)

And the correct result according to them (result which I didn't get) is:

I think I'll try earlier versions. The "find" problem does not bother me as much as the "User accounts" one. If only I could fix it. Java.com's help page said that in case the Java Control Panel is blank or gray (it isn't for me), I should disable anti-aliasing. I've disabled it on my Geforce 6100 and restarted my computer, but that didn't fix the problem.

Edit: Where do you get older versions? :tomato:

by the way, have you tried just uinstalling java from control panel?

Abi79 11-08-2006 01:40 PM

Thanks for the link. I'll try getting an older version, altough I doubt something good will happen...

I've tried uninstalling it, but that didn't fix my problems.

Edit: I've installed Java 1.4.2, but that didn't fix my problem.

windows reinstalling then? :)

Abi79 11-08-2006 02:29 PM

I don't have a Windows XP CD (and don't tell me about buying one; I don't have enough money and it's pretty expensive around here). Any other suggestions?

Edit: It seems to me that "User Account" and Windows Explorer are based on the same thing (java doesn't work in IE, User Account and Find; Find is accessed through Windows Explorer; Windows Explorer can browse the internet), so maybe if I will upgrade to IE 7 Beta 3, the problems will be gone (I use IE 6). What do you think?

I never had problems on my Windows XP Home Edtion With Service Pack2 trie installing service pack 2 if it is not installed.
