War Wind won't save
Hello, I'm trying to run War Wind on Windows 7 in windows 95 compatibility mode, and while it runs 0k, parts of the screen keep flashing black and nothing happens when I press 'save' or 'load'. Can anyone help?

I'd suggest running the game in a virtual machine with Windows 95 or 98.

I've been trying to get a virtual machine to work on my computer for years, but I can't get past the 'install windows' bit becuse I can never find my discs. Can anyone help? Isn't there just some sort of virtual machine that doesn't need a copy of windows?

http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOnWindows You always could run linux in VPC and run WINE in that, how it will run will depend how beefy your compy is ....... .... not that it's thàt hard to find a W98SE iso on teh internet ...... :whistling: |
No, there isn't. You need either a disc or a binary image of one.

kompatibily mode + oder options

i had thesame problem. whenever i started the game in compatibily mode 95 or 98, i could save the game, but therefor it allways crashed. when i did not turn on compatibily mode, i could play, but i could not save. however, i think i found a (surprisingly simple) solution for this problem: i started the game in compatibily mode win 95 and also set the following settings in thesame window, where you activate compatibily mode: - start with 256 colors - resolution 640x480 - deaktivate visual designes - deaktivate desktop?????? (in german it is called "Desktopgestaltung") i also checked: "start program as administrator" maybe not all of those options are necessary, but now i could play for the first time the whole first oblinox mission without any crashes and furthermore i was able to save the game afterwards :) so i hope, i fixed the problem like this now :) |
