[patryckslasher] Larn

I am trying desperately to remember an old game I used to play. I think it was on the C64 but it may have been on (or ported to) the Amiga.

It had no sound to speak of. It was mostly character based graphics. And by that I mean the graphics were simply an edited 80 column fixed font.

You (the main character) were just a red box. There were other monsters that you fought by simply running into them. One of the characters was a leprechaun that would steal all your gold and then run away (actually he would simply disappear). You start by entering a cave and progress down, level by level, clearing each of monsters as you go. You can exit the cave and buy equipment then re-enter the cave and continue.

I remember it having a single, exotic name but I've looked and I can't find anything that fits the bill.

Thanks in advance for your help. This is killing me.

This is somewhat off-topic, but there's a game that have a gameplay style similar to this, but is for Windows. The game is Castle of the Winds. I guess you can find it on MobyGames. Try looking there

Close but on this game the field was black. It had, if you can believe this, even less in the way of graphic presentation than Castle of the Winds.

Lark? Do I remember the name Lark?

Nope. It's not isometric and it didn't have any menus. I'll see if I can throw together a Photoshop of the screen I remember (when I get home).

You are aware that it's generic Rogue-like, right? :) And roguelikes are very numerous in our days, so you don't need to restrict yourself to Larn, if you don't wish to...

But you can start from here for best known port. :) (There is remake Ultralarn/Ularn, BTW too :)

Thank you so much. It was Larn, specifically, that I was looking for.

Ahh, the memories!
