ReamusLQ 14-10-2007 11:58 PM

To start off, this isn't a drama thread, this is simply to inform everyone because I've always enjoyed this community and the people who make it up.

So some of you already know, I will soon be serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Moscow Russia. I leave on October 21st, and will not return for two years. During this time period I won't have internet access so I guess this is my official goodbye thread.

I'm thankful for the opportunity I had to serve you all as a moderator, updater, and member of the grammar squad. I know I haven't been completely active the last little while due to life kind of coming to a reality as I've been getting ready to leave, but I was very grateful to have the chance to help the site out.

Hopefully this community will still be around in two years, and I look forward to the time when I can once again be a member of the forum.

I'll continue to be active until October 21st, but after that I will no longer to fulfill moderator and updater duties. I'll miss this community greatly, so until I return...

Enjoy whatever you're going to be doing over there, you vague goofball.
But seriously, way to take up a cause dude, hope you find a lot of good in the experience.

_r.u.s.s. 15-10-2007 12:14 AM

see you. thanks for your new corrupt a wish game btw, its kinda fun concept

a little word of advice before you go,
- never carry anything valuable or shiny at streets when its after eight and there are less than 3 people walking
-dont ever, ever, leave a car which doesnt look completely destroyed or ugly on a parking spot for more than 5 hours (or get a good insurance company)
-do NOT eat at restaurants in the centre of moscow. its not that it was bad but you could rather buy the ingredients with cook himself for the money instead
-when somebody tells you to shut up, shut up
-if you dont feel like it, be sure to check whether is he wearing black jacket and have suspiciously disturbing accent
-if you did not feel like it and he was wearing the jacket, with suspiciously disturbing accent, run
-if you cant run and are about to get help, dont call police
-if you did call police, be sure to call hospital and/or burial company as well

have fun at russia, take care

Hehe, that's a good list. Generally I can only agree with the advises above, though. Be careful in Moscow, it's one of the cities with the highest crime rate in the world right now.
Good luck with your mission, have fun and enjoy the otherwise fair Russia.

DeathDude 15-10-2007 02:41 AM

Good luck man, with your mission and with whatever else comes along the way. :)

I also agree with the list and maybe another thing to add - carry cigarettes, it doesn't matter if you smoke or not, but it can sure help out (I'm sorry, all I have on me is this pack of cigarettes, you're welcome to have them).

Good bye and good luck to you and we'll try to keep the home pixels burning for your return :)

May thy crusade be triumphant and no sickness befall you.

Those dudes are on their feet all day, we sometimes get those missionaries and they're actually nice people. (yes I had a philosophical discussion about God with them)

ReamusLQ 15-10-2007 11:58 PM

We aren't allowed internet access. Well, I guess that isn't true, because I can e-mail my family once a week, but that's it.

Timpsi 16-10-2007 06:29 AM

Wow, they've really changed the tactics now. When something like ReamusLQ's avatar shows up to your door, you're instantly ready to convert to anything they ask you to!

ReamusLQ 16-10-2007 06:55 AM

Are you kidding? Compared to the Russian Mafia my avatar is hardly intimidating ;-)

Morrin 16-10-2007 07:57 AM

Wow, two years. That is quite a long time, but I will say see you again, good luck and so!

Nick 16-10-2007 08:11 AM

Good luck.

I hope you meet good people and make new friends. We'll be waiting for you. :)

Lulu_Jane 16-10-2007 08:16 AM

I hope you have a wonderful time and a great experience darl' :D

Tervez 16-10-2007 02:08 PM

I can't say that I really know you, but I hope you have a pleasant stay.

Tito 16-10-2007 10:55 PM

Have a lot of good luck. And you know, if things get screwed up, you can always stick to the 10% of Moscows inhabitants consisting of multimillionaires...

gufu1992 18-10-2007 01:39 AM

1)move quickly
2)Never run into group of people lookinng the same
3)Children ARE not safe
4)Normal people will be friendly to guests
5)Use MASS transport... just look out for thiefs

I myself live in saint-Petersburg (1/4 of the past 5 years), but i dunno about moscow. They should follow the same rules.

_r.u.s.s. 18-10-2007 10:46 AM

1) If you see someone wearing a hat, swallow his soul.
2) If the sky turns red you be trouble son, deploy the missiles and eat a spoichniak.
3) Yea verily, for thou art gayeth, you must destroy everything you seen, including children and women.
4) Sometimes if you try hard enough someone will thank you for trying.
5) I once saw something.

Please remember these things, and also don't step there, yes there.

Mighty Midget 19-10-2007 08:25 AM

Well, good luck wherever you go, and whatever you do, and who knows: Don't be all surprised if you see AB around when you get back :) See you around.

ReamusLQ 22-10-2007 03:33 PM

Thank you to everyone who sends their best wishes with me. To those of you fools who didn't...bugger off! I'm just kidding. But seriously, thank you again. I've really enjoyed this community, and I look forward to being a part of it again and contributing once more in two years.

I'm only sad that I wasn't able to see the new site before I left :(

So until I return...

Счастливого пути (Godspeed).

Below is a picture of what I'll look like by the time I actually get to Russia (after 12 weeks of language training, so I'll get there in the middle of January).

gufu1992 25-10-2007 09:30 PM

What a new'be - it ain't that cold in russia at this time! Especially in moscow.
It's only cold like that in the last days of december.

Burger Meister 30-10-2007 08:46 PM

Russia seems like a scary place... my grade ten business teacher told us that the mob runs everything bascially and the crime rate is extrememly high, well that was two years ago anyways.

Tito 30-10-2007 10:01 PM

I had a conference the other day, as a part of a course I'm currently doing, from some russian folks who tried to encourage spanish businessmans to invest in the Voronezh region in Russia. All of them tried to give guarantees about mafia not being a problem in Russia any more. Also, all of them looked as mafia members themselves.

Doubler 31-10-2007 12:06 AM

I guess I'm officially too late, but it's still sad to see you go, Reamus. Best of luck in Russia :)

You are all too soft!

I never walked to school, only to find it closed due to the cold, and I remember winters where it could be below -30C, for weeks. Great heaps of snow were another kettle of fish. Enough snow at a balmy -1C, and the schools would still be closed.

If -16 kept us home, they may as well have not held classes between Christmas and Easter (exaggerating for effect).
