Dead links
 

All game links are dead since Wednesday or something, is it only for me or not, i don't know. This site is not at all stable.

Good catch. I tried to download a random game and get to a link that shows: "You are now downloading ", as well as a donation section on that page. Downloads do not appear to work.

It seems to specifically be anything hosted on files.abandonia - I was able to download some extras for a game just fine but was not able to download the associated game. I'm specifically getting Timeout errors when trying to download games (though it seems to specifically be the browser timing out and not a HTTP error).

This is the other channel that I know goes to Abovo.

The toughest game to play at this site is the stupid re-captcha image test (when trying to submit the email).

I don't understand why "online casinos" are such a huge thing to these guys. They appear to be out of touch with the target audience. The sites are also very sketchy.

Yep, i fail to see the connection between casinos and retrogaming

I think at this point they're just abusing Abandonia for whatever possible profit there can be made from running it, and not doing anything else to keep it in shape.

Sure is a shame that the people that use the site aren't the ones with a say in what goes on. Oh well, I guess. It has been a good run.

to be fair... I wonder if they are seeing our posts calling them out for unrelated topics??? Either way, at least it is a step in the right direction.

At least, Abovo, the One Above All the Admins, is interested in keeping the site functional, although minimally and below our expectations... :sick: :no:

Montezuma's Return link is dead. Recently i noticed another one but i didn't take a note. Anyway, if i find another one, i'll post it here.

I believe that the download link for Montezumas Revenge is also broken. *shrug*

I've found out why - the file names on the server must match the game title on site.
Some enterprising soul removed apostrophes from the titles on the site, so it was trying to download a file named Montezumas Return rather than Montezuma's Return.
Same for every other game that had an apostrophe in the title. :suspicious:

I have taken steps to fix this for the affected games but it's possible that whoever, whenever did this has caused similar havoc with other games.

The following downloads should now work:

Indeed it's a known issue that all translators and updaters must be aware of. If the names had to be changed it should have been discussed in the staff forum.

What a wonderful engine we have.

It was me, because apostrophes in names kills any such game in screenshot contest, and so far didn't affect anything... Yes, I never checked _downloads_, and wasn't aware that it tied to the english game name.

I guess, it's simpler to _remove_ apostrophes from the game files than guess which ones I destroyed. Alternatively, you can seek such games (looking on files with apostrophes) and fix names back, of course.

Fun fact: I did it publicly, about 5 years ago, mostly. And added maybe pair of missed games in the last year. Ah, well.

I noticed 2 dead links again, i guess they are all dead right now. One of them was Utopia.

Not confirmed. Utopia works for me. Random link too. Maybe self-fixed already.
