Dave - My turn?

I'm preparing a complete package for Turrican II - The Final Fight
  • Archive: I uploaded the ISO months ago into the cellar, but a preinstalled version was needed to solve few problems. I've added details into the review. If possible I would like you to test if it works correctly.
  • Review: already into Grammar forums, there are so many Engrish obscenities :p
  • Music: I have the soundtrack in midi files, but we should check if Chris Huelsbeck (the author) still sells the CD. [edit]It seems still supported http://www.huelsbeck.com/ [/edit]
  • Boxshots: I have them, but few are missed, considering the rarity of the Dos version I would like to upload one taken from the net years ago (in German). Actually I don't remember where I took it, but probably the site is dead, can't find it anymore to ask for permission.
  • Manual: I have an amatorial .pdf convertion of the original manual, made by a certain T.R.Schmidt. There are credits on it, so it shouldn't be a problem to add, if added we could substitute it later with an original one. Let me know what you think.
  • Screenshots: I have done them, but I'm having problems with the resolution, don't know why but DosBox creates them with a resolution of 304x228 pixels instead of the default 320x200, do you know how can I solve this? I can modify them with Gimp/Photoshop but the result is not so nice...

Dave 12-11-2009 12:02 PM

FTP folder created and Archive uploaded as .zip file.

I've found the source of those rare boxshots, I'll send a mail for permissions. :)

P.s. can you test if the archive works for you?

*How to run the game* (Taken from review)
Quote:

This is a pre-installed version for DOSBox, so just follow these steps and you shouldn't have any problems.

You need to extract the archive into your DOSBox mounted C: folder.

Run DOSBox, and while you are at C:\> type TURRICAN to start.
You'll see a setup screen and invisible texts. From here, just press enter and the game will start.

In case you prefer the drag and drop system just use the TURRICAN.bat which you can find in the TURRICAN folder.

Configuration:
5000 cycles or more is enough.

Turrican :rocks:

Dave 13-11-2009 12:38 PM

I had a really positive answer about those extras from Mr. T.R.Smith, administrator of the site and author of the manual :OK:

I'll add credits to the review :)

Little summary for Turrican II:
  • Archive :onftp:
  • Review: Finalized
  • Music: Protected
  • Boxshots: :onftp:
  • Manual: :onftp:
  • Screenshots: Tech problems :warning:

I've just prepared the Intro video for YouTube, but I'm having problems with FTP, for unknown reasons I can't upload files.
Are you having similar problems?

lol Dave, are you using Filezilla?

Dave 04-12-2009 03:27 PM

The funny thing is that I'm using the main admin account, it worked for last updates, I guess it's something related to server change :mhh:
I'll try using the common procedure.

Dave 04-12-2009 03:59 PM

Uncutted version of the Intro uploaded into YouTube folder. :onftp:

It's a 24,4MB .zip file, around 5,36. It can be refined a bit.

Now I want to understand why the upload doesn't work with a full permission profile :p

Dave 04-12-2009 05:09 PM

I've modified screenshots manually because DosBox captured them with a resolution of 304x228 pixels instead of the default 320x200 pixels.
  • Archive
  • Review
  • Music
  • Boxshots

A big thank you to Mr. T.R.Smith who gave us the permission to host rare extras!

Folder created over FManager always have less Permission than a Folder created with FileZila (and other FTP-Programs.)

If you view in FileZila you see Dave and bobinator1992 have 48 while all other have 500 (in other words the full Permission).

I say it again: Use Fmanager only for copy, move and deleting and FileZila for Creating and uploading!

Dave 04-12-2009 06:09 PM

Ok, didn't know :OK:

Dave 09-12-2009 11:28 AM

I've substituted my folder with a new one with full permissions using Filezilla.

Uploading these videos:
  • "James Pond II - Codename Robocod" Intro
  • "The Chaos Engine" Intro
  • "Turrican II - The Final Fight" Outro (Mainly text and music, I think you can cut it at the end of the song => "2.44")
I'm planning to create other, do you know if there's a way to change the CTRL+ALT+F5 command? Some games skip the intro pressing CTRL #^_^

TotalAnarchy 09-12-2009 01:15 PM

I think you should somehow use the keymapper (Ctrl+F1).

Dave 09-12-2009 04:57 PM

Yes, I've found and changed "video" tag, thank you :)

Dave 10-12-2009 06:17 PM

I had problems of audio/video synchronization, however it seems to be only a problem of visualization related to the Windows Media Player codec because they are displayed correctly using VirtualDub.

I'm uploading these videos:
  • "Dune CD Version" Intro (Part1 - You can cut it at minute 7.34)
  • "Dune CD Version" Intro (Part2 - This is like the original trailer, I suggest to add the logo on the first 3 seconds and cover credits, so the result would be music and normal intro)
  • "Dune II" Intro

Dave 11-12-2009 12:29 PM

I'm uploading other 2 :)
  • "Dune CD Version" Gameplay (Cut at 6.39)
  • "James Pond II Codename Robocod" Gameplay

Dave 12-12-2009 01:04 PM

  • "Syndicate" Intro
  • "Turrican II - The Final Fight" Gameplay (A bit longer than 7 minutes, I tried to be fast to finish the 1st level)
  • "XCom - Ufo Enemy Unknown" Intro

Dave 15-12-2009 12:28 PM

  • Flashback Intro
  • Gods Gameplay (Really boring to watch, it's the nature of this game :p, I suggest to cut at the end of first level, time "2.47")

TotalAnarchy 15-12-2009 12:47 PM

Uhmm, Dave, I'm not going to start cutting videos. It takes additional time for that.

Dave 16-12-2009 12:03 PM

I'll do that then, just need to find time.

[edit]
I've edited and substituted them all, now they are ready for the logo.

Dave 21-12-2009 04:42 PM

I'm uploading "Desert Strike - Return to the Gulf" Intro

Dave 29-01-2010 01:47 PM

USH!!

I did these videos during pauses at Uni
:hihihi:
  • Dune2 (Gameplay)
  • Superfrog (Intro & Gameplay)
  • Alien Breed (Gameplay)
More to come, just need to find time :)

Dave 01-02-2010 10:36 PM

I had lot of fun recording these :), luckily I have found saves and passcodes that made me save lot of time.
  • Alien Breed - Tower Assault (Gameplay)
  • Cannon Fodder (Gameplay)
  • Arkanoid II - Revenge of DOH (Intro & Gameplay)
I don't think I'll find time to create more videos next week, but there's enough material in my folder for a month or two ;)

TotalAnarchy 02-02-2010 09:28 AM

I'll start uploading again, when I will find some time.

Dave 10-02-2010 04:12 PM

Uploading the following videos:
  • Arkanoid (Gameplay+Fast Higher Levels Demonstration)
  • Cannon Fodder CD (Intro)
  • Rampart (Gameplay)
  • Dangerous Dave - Haunted Mansion (Gameplay)

Dave 18-02-2010 12:39 PM

Yay, they are up! Thank you :)

I forgot to upload these two Alien Breed related things:

Extras: Alien Breed - Level Codes.txt
(Made by me, those on the net sometimes are wrong)

Video: Alien Breed - Tower Assault Intro (Enanched Version)

P.s. the version of Alien Breed we offer for download is the windows remake. I think we should simply add the "ESA Logo" to underline that we don't offer the original game, (You know Team17 has recently started a new crusade against Abandonware sites) and leave the link into review.
This will avoid problems.

TotalAnarchy 18-02-2010 12:47 PM

Ok, will protect Alien Breed.

Btw, you know we include links to our pages in the video info. So waht do we do with videos for games not on site like Superfrog or Fifth's Earthsiege II/Zombie Wars videos. Do we upload them, just without the links?

Dave 18-02-2010 12:54 PM

Perfect thanks, I would say without the links. We may add protected games in a second moment since they are not a priority.
We are also a sort museum after all. :)

Dave 26-02-2010 12:55 PM

More free time = more videos :)

I'm going to upload these videos I prepared, I gave priority to those games already presented:
  • Dune II (Special: All the Endings & Outro)
  • Theme Park (Intro)
  • The Chaos Engine (Gameplay)

Dave 04-03-2010 12:08 PM

I have other videos in queue, but considering that I have uploaded more than 1GB of material (and that virtually makes me the n°1 contributor of AB :p )...I'm waiting that few of my videos will be uploaded and my folder cleaned a bit. There's no hurry of course.

Reserved:
  • BodyBlows
  • Paperboy2
  • Raptor Call of the Shadows
  • Pinball Fantasies

Dave 09-03-2010 12:11 PM

I'm uploading one of them, James Pond videos can be deleted.
Anyways I have a backup of every video I did, just ask if you need me to upload one of them again.
  • Pinball Fantasies (4Tables Gameplay)

Final fight with Max? Isn't there a robot after Max?

Dave 05-04-2010 06:10 PM

yeah, it's the same fight, you must beat Max twice, after that he shows his real Cyborg nature. And you must beat the Terminator for 2 rounds :p

marko river 05-04-2010 10:17 PM

Yeah, now I remember, it's been a while. All the time people were speaking that the game is easiest to beat if you play with Kosak. I only managed to beat the game with Dug (if that's the name of that fat sailor).

Dave 05-04-2010 11:10 PM

Yes, Dug :) ,but actually he reminds me a wrestler.
I finished it with Ninja, he is not my favourite but the sword is really strong if used in the right way.

Dave 04-06-2010 06:11 PM

New Video:
  • Lemmings 2 - The Tribes - Gameplay Medieval World (First 3 levels)
I've also recorded the intro but it has few glitches, probably a problem of compatibility with DosBox.

Dave 05-06-2010 12:40 PM

  • Wolfenstein 3D - Gameplay video

Dave 06-10-2010 09:01 PM

I've just uploaded a new video for YT channel, I've switched to DosBox 0.74, don't know if there's some difference from videos recorded with 0.73 :
  • Flashback - Gameplay

Dave 07-10-2010 01:54 PM

  • Desert Strike - Return to the Gulf (Gameplay)

Dave 14-10-2010 02:24 PM

  • Budokan - Gameplay
Around 10:30 of video, I mixed Training and Tournament parts.
In case it's too big let me know and I'll split it, max YT requirement should be 15 minutes IIRC.

bobson 14-10-2010 02:58 PM

It was 10 minutes last time I've checked, but it works up to 10:50 :)

DarthHelmet86 15-10-2010 01:51 AM

They upped it to 15 minutes recently.

Dave 15-10-2010 11:36 AM

That's nice, we could even increase the quality of our videos adding walkthroughs, tutorials, and I have another idea in mind...FUUUUU videos :p

Few months ago I tried to record Zorro Gameplay, if you played it you know what I mean :ouch: , the result was "the story of a thousand deaths". :smile2:

Dave 19-10-2010 09:34 PM

  • Jungle Strike - Intro
Will try to record a nice Gameplay vid when I'll find time.

Dave 25-10-2010 09:16 PM

Uploading:
  • Hero Quest - Intro
  • Hero Quest - Gameplay

Dave 02-11-2010 06:15 PM

Uploading:
  • Mortal Kombat - Intro
  • Mortal Kombat - Gameplay (Scorpion)

Dave 30-12-2010 10:45 PM

I've found the time to record new videos, I'm uploading them:
  • Paratrooper (Short video)
  • Micro Machines (Intro mixed to Gameplay)

Dave 31-12-2010 09:14 AM

And for the joy of marko_river we have "Jungle Strike - Gameplay" on the way :)

marko river 31-12-2010 10:32 AM

:D
I feel like responding somehow... Like Crusader gameplay.. But the time is such a problem...

Dave 20-01-2011 02:21 PM

Uploading two new videos :)
  • Mortal Kombat II - Intro
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Intro

marko river 20-01-2011 02:58 PM

I'll check that one, because I was doing the same thing. I guess in the end any would do, but the thing is that in dosbox music doesn't follow animation due to increased speed. Perhaps not very important, but still...

Dave 20-01-2011 03:59 PM

Should be ok, I always check them twice. Be sure to visualize it using Virtual Dub because if you open it with Media Player (with the codec suggested by dosbox team) you'll see that music problem.

marko river 20-01-2011 04:11 PM

Perhaps I was unclear... it is in the bare dosbox that music doesn't play as it should... I mean music is fine, it is the speed of the music and the animation that doesn't match. Otherwise, I would have submitted this intro last summer or something.

Dave 20-01-2011 04:15 PM

Ok, let me know, all seems fine here.
I had problems in the past recording videos using old DosBox versions, those problems disappeared with 0.73 and 0.74, maybe that's the reason?

marko river 20-01-2011 05:46 PM

Don't know till I check. I hope you're right :)

marko river 20-01-2011 06:11 PM

Dave, you lazy butt, put the full name next time :D
Everything's OK, I thought of TMNT game while you talked about TMNT-MM

Dave 21-01-2011 11:18 AM

Holy sheep, you are right :ouch:

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
