A friend of mine recently introduced me to one of the nerdiest and funniest television shows that I have seen The IT Crowd.

I was wondering if any of you guys have seen it, and what you think of it?

To start with, how could you go wrong with a dvd that has menus designed as a homage to old isometric adventure games?

It centers around three members of the IT department (the head of which knows absolutely nothing about computers) working for a huge, souless company.

8bit graphics and even a blue screen of death for the intro cartoon, and the windows "failed download" sound effect forms part of the theme song. The Flying Spagetti Monster is displayed in an appropriate position of eminence in the basement office, which is also hung with art by Jim Woodring, and Samuri Jack vinal figurines. In the first episode the sysadmin is wearing a t-shirt which has a screengrab from Pacman level 256 (?!!) printed on it. Wow, it all gives me a hysterically funny geekgasm.

I recommend it for anyone that likes to get a little geeky now and then :)

"Hello, IT department.... Have you tried turning it off and on?"

i watched it when it was originally broadcast on channel 4 and it was funny then :P haven't got round to getting hold of it though. plus i think it has subs in "l33t" speak

I watched it here for about 3 weeks, before they took it off. I dunno how many episodes I missed before I discovered it, but god almighty I wish they'd put it back on. :(

There's no way it would ever make it onto television in my neck of the woods, thankfully my friend lent my the dvd. I'd never heard of it until then.

Besides, any television show that features a homemade telephone answering machine with incredibly sophisticated voice recognition technology built into an archaic 30 year old reel-to-reel magnetic tape machine is all kinds of nerdy win.

I could probably watch it without the sound because I enjoy looking at all the things in the basement office so much :)

Incidentally, Himmler, fair play to that - to each their own after all :D

For your description, I should give it a try. It sounds like something I could enjoy, being such a nerd.

but how many seasons were there? how many episodes? i found only one available for sharing, but how many are there?

One series of 6, another one in production. It's good, but I'm confident the second series will be much better - listening to Graham's DVD commentary, he's well aware of the problems with it (although he is often overcritical of his work - ever listened to the Ted commentaries?)

Everyone is having having fun fun fun...

I'm a huge nerd, but I never liked this show. Sorry.
