Hardware assistance

I have (finally) found a person who has an old (i think) soundcard. What i need from you guys is to tell me wether it's compatible with old games (92-98 ) or not.I have searched the internet, but all i could find were general specs. The product name is :

ESS 1868

All i need to know is if it supports old dos(& windows 98 ) games.

No. No bug. You see an 8 alone does not do anything, but when you put a ) behind it... things start to happen and you will get a 8)

8 + ) = 8)

ok, that makes sense, but what about the audio card?? That's what i'm interested about.

This soundcard i believe that comes from the era that soundblaster wasn't the standard yet... Back then there were many different sound cards ( Gravis, Adlib, Roland, Soundblaster etc )and each one was incompatible with the other. Yours i believe that it is a Enqosonic but i am not sure. Anyway, i am sure that it is a card from the DOS era, but in that case the problem is with every game indivintually - i mean that the game must support the card.

i know, that's why i'm asking you guys-to find out if the games from that time support this card

LotharGR 19-05-2004 01:11 PM

the card does it have anything printed on it? Except its model number, does it say manufacturer, date, etc?

Omuletzu 19-05-2004 01:15 PM

Well i haven't bought the card yet, so i will ask the vendor

LotharGR 19-05-2004 01:19 PM

yes, you should do that. And ask and the year of manufacture of course. From a simple model number i can't tell what it supports.... :)

maybe this?

hmm maybe this is the drivers you are looking for. The soundcard is from around 1995-1996.

http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/34/34439.htm

It is a old soundcard, since it have a IDE port on it to, to support a cdrom drive.

Really have no clue if this card have any sound blaster compatible mode, or similar.

my suggestion is to try buy maybe a Sound blaster 16, or sound blaster awe64 isa soundcard.

If you do find a sound blaster awe 64 Value/gold isa card, i could mail you my startupfiles, with all the drivers needed, to get cdrom/mouse/soundcard/ ect. to work.

My old system is:

Pentium-S 133Mhz
64mb edo ram.
intel motherboard.
2x or 4x toshiba cdrom drive.
850mb conner harddrive.
trident pci 9680-1 graphic card.
creative sound blaster awe 64 value isa soundcard.
