here are the rules:
one person is the asker of questions (further AQ).
every one else is question answerers (furthe QA).
AQs reponsoblity is to ask questions, and provide hints.
failture to provide hints in 36 hours mens he loses his AQ status and becomes a QA with 0 points (and whoever has the most points is the new AQ), except weekends, which don't count
QAs try to guess the answer.
everyone starts with 0 points.
when one of the QAs get the answer right he gets 5 points, and the AQ asks another question.
when a QA gives a completely wrong answer he loses 1 point (but she can't go bellow zero)
if the asnwer is partialy right (this is entirely up to AQ) the QA will not have a point substarcted from him.
the first one to get 20 points becomes the new AQ!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a1s 26-03-2006 03:26 PM

since I started this, I shall be the first AQ.

which author wrote a book about:
1)a black soviet spy
2)accidentaly going to space using a cheese powered device.
3)and (with his new american friends) saves the universe from a certain aquatic villain.

There goes my old topic... Curse them airplanes.
This game is probably more playable and we are relieved from that Messerschmidt-burden.

Anyway, I don't know a lot of books. So I skip this question.

I have NO idae what you are talking about. :max:

hint(s):
27.03.06:even though it wasn't the thing that got them into sapce, the main charecters travel inside an ordinary plane.
28.03.06: the author allso wrote a series of books about a diminutive mamal made out of a condutive material.
29.03.06: as well as a dystopia about overpopulated earth.
30.03.06: born in 1925, does that help?

P.S. though I will supply hints as reuired, I strongly encourge you all to participate in the thread I'm not affialiated with (allthough am is some way ripping off  ) in addition to this one or even isntead.

a1s 09-05-2006 04:40 PM

I'm sorry. that was my easyest question (as has been requested). :D

BTW, for those more intelectual among you here is a question:
In many states (in USA) there is a special law that dictates, that for every 5 miles on a highway there must be at least one mile long piece that is completely straight for emergency situations. why? (i.e. How are these pieces to be used in an emergency?)

BeefontheBone 09-05-2006 04:57 PM

Landing (or taking off) aircraft would seem to be the most obvious answer to that one.

Although I wouldn't dream of taking Beef's points away from him (and could get my hand bitten off if I were to actually try), this is a myth.

seriously though, read the rules.
besides if I won't be substrcuting points someone is bound to win soon.

P.S. as allways I am open to suggestions as to how the rules should be modified.
I have one right now by the way: if a guess matches all the creteria, but isn't *the* answer the guesser should get an additional point. any objections/comments/improvements?

no and I'd really like to se a tribe that gives their lives for a box of sand. unles ofcourse it was gold sand, in which case there are many such "tribes"in europe.

yes, but they would never admit it.

Havell 18-05-2006 05:40 PM

Because, years earilier, he'd been stranded on an island (or something), and tow of his friends went exploring, only one came back, with some meat which he claimed was penguin meat. As they were straving, he ate the meat which meant he stayed alive to be rescued. After eating the soup in the restaurant, he realised that the meat he's eaten on the island wasn't penguin, and he'd eaten his friend, which he couldn't stand to live with the thought of. So he killed himself.

Mighty Midget 18-05-2006 05:53 PM

Maybe he realized that the penguin in question was, in fact, his only true love in life. When he learned that his loved one had gone cooking at the wrong end, he just couldn't take it. This goes to prove: Never, I say NEVER, marry a penguin unless you're one yourself.

Oh, was the penguin de-fat/diet?

EDIT: Are we talking bird or missile :w00t: ?

Well, the Dark Elf is a playable race in Morrowind and Daggerfall, and probably Arena and Oblivion as well.

Playbahnosh 03-06-2006 02:11 PM

Yep, Dark Elf is playable in almost all fantasy RPG games... I wont list them all... but the point goes to Mighty Midget this time I guess :ok:

Mighty Midget 03-06-2006 02:13 PM

Er, next one please? :)

Edit: BTW: The Red Cross question. That's not a company, it's an organization. Enough nitpicking :D

a1s 03-06-2006 02:17 PM

well yes and no. you only get one point.
the game allso features a race with an angaram:
gurthlihn

(which was my original question but I figured noone would answer again).

P.S. not much of a hint, but: this race is unique to the game.

let's continue with games. which game has the charecter pinky, but not charecter brain?

P.S.by the way, if you can point me tawards a pinky and brain game, that would be very nice of you

a1s 04-06-2006 07:48 AM

it's funny that the charecter would be named pinky, because he is somewhat pinkish in color... allthough so is pretty much everyone else.

Havell 04-06-2006 01:12 PM

Could it be Pac-Man?

One of the ghosts is called Pinky.

a1s 04-06-2006 07:49 PM

no. the cahrecter is human in apearance.

crossover 04-06-2006 09:06 PM

Hmm, maybe the demon from Doom?
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...oom_Demons.gif

Also, Bust-a-move and Bust-a-move 2 have a character called Pinky, I think.

a1s 04-06-2006 09:56 PM

do I have to point out how many thing are wrong with the demon answer?
1)not called pinky.
2)not human shaped.
3)most of the things in doom are not pink.

unfortunatly you don't have any points to substaract... <_<

It's not any of the bust a moves though.

a1s 05-06-2006 09:49 PM

you will never belive it, but the person named pinky is actualy a successeful mobster (gangster?) in Chicago.
edit: oh come off it, the reviewer gave this game a 5, and you're telling me noone played it?!

a1s 08-06-2006 06:49 PM

uh.. remember when I said many people in the game were as pink as pinky? well I was writing from memory, now that I looked at it again, turn out the color is more violet (I think) then pink. here is a sample:

a1s 11-06-2006 07:38 PM

Pinky (who as you rember is a successeful gangster) in fact has the potential to, in a maner of speaking, become the monarch of this megapolis.

and this is the last hint, tommorow I'll post a different question.

Havell 11-06-2006 07:41 PM

The game is

King of Chicago

I didn't know that this question was still in progress, I thought you'd given up on this question with your post a couple of posts back.

a1s 12-06-2006 10:11 AM

might I ask you which post was it that confused you?

P.S. Havell has won this game! :brain: he is your new QA. edit: sorry, I meant AQ.

Havell 12-06-2006 05:30 PM

OK, First question:

WTF is this?:

Icewolf 13-06-2006 06:46 AM

This is definitely an image and no photography. Hmm... Maybe a scheme of a surface?

Havell 13-06-2006 07:16 AM

Nope, it's a photograph.

Icewolf 13-06-2006 07:33 AM

Is this the floor of a fountain or a swimming pool. Sometimes they have these round little flagstones that are shiny.

Havell 13-06-2006 03:21 PM

Nope; and I'll give you another clue (since I'm in a really good mood).

The picture is, in fact, on its side.

Icewolf 13-06-2006 03:48 PM

I was temporarily thinking of a female torso.... :D

The surface of an LCD-display?

a1s 13-06-2006 07:50 PM

a piece of artistic potery.

Havell 13-06-2006 10:00 PM

OK, you're completely up the wrong tree.

The object pictured is quite large, the area pictured is about 5 metres long. It is also three dimensional, not just a photo of a flat piece of art.

Icewolf 14-06-2006 06:38 AM

Is it a cooling blanket/covers? A friend of mine said they have such thing in the hot countries.

Havell 14-06-2006 07:11 AM

Nope, it's fairly solid.

a1s 14-06-2006 08:29 PM

I find the lack of propper background (except for what sems to be a white filed... ) rather odd.
anyways I think that might be a small building.

Havell 14-06-2006 09:29 PM

The background is sky.

And it is a building, but which one?

I can guarantee that there's only one building in the world that looks like this one.

Japo 14-06-2006 11:35 PM

It must be some kind of modernesque Guggenheim-like mambo-jambo. Just doesn't have a clue about which one. Maybe those round thingies do actually serve some purpose?

a1s 17-06-2006 07:40 PM

hint! :wallbash: hint! :titan: hint! :wallbash:

Havell 17-06-2006 09:45 PM

It's a building in the UK

Enough?

a1s 18-06-2006 06:52 PM

not for me (like I said this is completely out of my field of competence), but maybe for someone else... <_<

Havell 20-06-2006 08:59 PM

OK, clearly special help is needed:

Icewolf 21-06-2006 07:19 AM

OK, I call myself an at least average educated person, but I've never seen or heard of that building!!! :titan:

Fruit Pie Jones 21-06-2006 04:53 PM

The first picture looked interesting. But now that I know what the whole thing looks like, it's hideous! It looks like the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man squeezed out a colossal turd, and someone decided it would be easier to make a building out of it than move it.

I still have no idea what it is, though.

Danny252 21-06-2006 08:26 PM

Bullring Shopping Center, Birmingham.

God, you guys dont know it?!

Havell 21-06-2006 08:33 PM

Great!

Danny252 5

It's Selfridges at The Bullring in Birmingham.

I was going to post that first pic first, but I thought that would make it too easy.

ANyway, onwards with a question that should prove to be more easily researchable:

How many cathedrals does Coventry, in England, have?

Japo 21-06-2006 08:34 PM

"Hideous" is the word. LOL

crossover 22-06-2006 11:04 PM

2, I think:
St. Mary's Priory and St. Michael's (which was rebuilt after WWII).

Havell 24-06-2006 01:23 AM

Nope, though both of those are cathedrals

(I do want the names of the cathedrals as well, so don't bother just guessing numbers)

a1s 24-06-2006 09:56 PM

you son of a three headed monkey!
Coventry only has cathedrals of St. Mary and St, Micheals cathedrals! that is right it has exaclty 3 (three)! it allso seems to lack a good mathematics colledge ( LOL ).

If any of you are wondering (well solar ecalipses are allso improbable, but it happens), those are:
The Old Cathedral (circa 1350s)
Cathedral of St. Mary's (1539)
The New Coventry Cathedral (1951)
of thos one is actulay working today (guess whcih! :sneaky: )

EDIT: and please with L of S and C on T, don't ask us any more more stuff about your homeland at least for a few turns.

Havell 25-06-2006 12:30 PM

Precisely.

Three Cathedrals.

One of them very old and buried, one of them in ruins and a shiny new one.

OK, I'll lay off the England-related questions (though you seemed to do fine at it).

OK, with special thanks to a1s, I bring you your next question:

In the 1899 edition of "Who's Who", this person had 18 lines. By 1965 they had an enormous 211 lines (largest article in the book). Name the individual.

Havell 30-06-2006 06:55 AM

a1s 30-06-2006 05:19 PM

what do you mean which one?! that is the anarchist flag. am I supposed to guess the concrete organistaion from proportions of the picture?
very well, my [random] guess is: Syndicalists (Anarchists with a strong comunist/socialist vein).

Havell 01-07-2006 09:09 AM

Yep, Anarcho-Syndicalism.

(And that is specifically the anarcho-syndicalist flag, it's just been used by a few other movements and is now seen by many to be the flag of all anarchism)

7990 TD.

Havell 02-07-2006 03:51 PM

a1s 02-07-2006 06:10 PM

a1s 02-07-2006 06:15 PM

Havell 02-07-2006 06:19 PM

That was a hint in cunning disguise.

a1s 02-07-2006 06:24 PM

that's... interesting. but I got three letters so far.

P.S. out of curiosity, what is the scehme for making license plates in the UK?

anyways, the letters I got were "HOW***" , and I guess maybe it says howard.

Havell 02-07-2006 07:00 PM

The HOW is right.

It doesn't spell anything out.

I jsut realised that this may actually be very hard, I'm not even sure if the answer is on the internet. Oh well.

Onyx 03-07-2006 12:16 AM

I don't think anyone will be able to figure it out... offcourse, unless they have the book or they look at it at the library. unfortunatly, I can only see the american *thingy where you can find an answer* in real life, not the brittish one where the answer obviously is.

#BlakhOle# 04-07-2006 09:33 AM

Well i checked the Australian cover and all it showed was the H. Sorry im out :(

Onyx 04-07-2006 07:46 PM

Well, some images on Google show HOW but that's as far as you can go. Maybe the book is wraped in the way you see the rest on the INSIDE of the cover?

note: I think everyone has figured where to look for solution by now so I don't think I compromise the game in this way, I think you should ask another question, and feel free to give me a -1 point if you think I went out of line.

Havell 04-07-2006 08:07 PM

The image that appears on the covers is cropped, I'm not even sure that the full image appears on any cover. I have the full picture of the car (with the full licence plate). Like I said, I'm not even sure if the answer is on the internet at all. Seems like it'll take some effort to get this one, so, with a1s's permission (it's his game), I'd like to offer 10 points to the first person to get this one.

Allso, since Rowling never mentions the plate in her book, I would find the plate from the movie to be more precise than cover art (but then this question would lose it's twist).

Thank you, this is an honor. a1s, great fight out there, it turned out a bit weird at the end but hey, you might win this time as I won't be your competition :P :tomato:

So, my first question. I think it will be an easy one but hay, we have to start with something.

When this game appeared 1987 on MSX (later ported to NES) it was a huge step: it introduced a game in which you need to use your brains as well as your skills, oposed to all other shoot-em-up games that were poping around at that time. The sequel was released 1990. on MSX but only in US and Japan. The series got it's huge popularity in 1998 when third sequel showed up on PS. From then two more sequels were made for PS2, one more is in the making and not to mention that existant games were ported to allmost all gaming systems of today, from GBC to PC.

Let the battle BEGIN! :titan:

Icewolf 13-07-2006 12:05 PM

My matching guess is the Metal Gear Series. The 98er was released as Metal Gear solid, I think. :sneaky:

a1s 21-07-2006 08:08 PM

In the question by Havell you got right, yes.

Japo 22-07-2006 12:57 AM

Well, I thought "Who's Who" was a British book, Havell is British as well and had done several questions about his home country, so I thought about the most famous (serious) British celebrity, and Churchill came to my mind. Havell had mentioned two years (1898 and 1965) and both made sense with Churchill for me, so I tried with that lucky shot.

Just after answering I checked Churchill's bio and those dates were when he entered politics (joined the Tory Party), and when he died, which I had guessed myself. So after checking this I was already pretty sure of having got it right, although not certain.
