BTW, for those more intelectual among you here is a question:
In many states (in USA) there is a special law that dictates, that for every 5 miles on a highway there must be at least one mile long piece that is completely straight for emergency situations. why? (i.e. How are these pieces to be used in an emergency?)

Landing (or taking off) aircraft would seem to be the most obvious answer to that one.
