Old game COMPILATION, long story....

So, as this is my first post, I just want to start off by saying how awesome Abandonia is. This site has been invaluable for my tracking down of old DOS games I used to play as a kid, and really got me into playing old DOS games in general. Abandonia Reloaded also has been a huge influence in getting me into the freeware scene, so it's good all around.

Now that that's out of the way, let's get down to business. Sometime in the mid/late-90s, I received a game compilation by my mother, in addition to a fantasy game which I'll probably ask about in another topic some time. This game compilation was basically a CD-ROM filled with shareware games, and there were a heck of a lot, let me tell you. The thing is, I can't remember the name of the compilation for the life of me! It's been driving me crazy for around a year or two now. I originally thought it was called Epic MegaGames...until I found out that "Epic MegaGames" was the name of the company that made some of the games on the disc!

Thankfully, I remember a few of the games on this CD. You've got your classics like Jazz Jackrabbit, Scorched Earth, Jetpack, and The Adventures of Maddog Williams. However, there were a LOT of other games on the CD, some of which I can only describe vaguely. For example, there was one action-platfomer that had you defeating aliens with a vegetable gun (?), another that had you fighting giant insects in a desert maze (?!) and yet another which put two mechs fighting in a maze. So, you were really all over the place with developers here, Epic MegaGames, Software Creations, others that I can't even remember.

I'm afraid that the only other piece of information I can give was that the main menu was grey, with buttons corresponding to different genres of games, and clicking on a button would take you to games of that genre. I honestly can't remember anything else about it, but I'll try to answer any questions you have.

If anything, I'd like the name of this compilation and, if possible, a list of all the games on it, since a few of them were actually pretty interesting. I've been searching all over my house for months looking for this CD, but I think my mom threw it out a few years ago. Any info you can find would be greatly appreciated!

I think the game disc you're referring to is "GCW Games for DOS", and the one with the vegetable gun is probably "Pickle Wars", the one with the robots is "Megatron", the disc contains, JJR 1, Scorched Earth, Jetpack, and The Adventures of Maddog Williams, the only the comes to mind on the insects in the desert maze is one of the Skunny series except for the maze part. The disc contains, Nightmare 3D, The Last Half of Darkness Part 1 (:akimbo: :butcher:), Doom, Cyberdogs, Wolfenstein, Stalker, War Wizard, Commander Keen 1, 4, And Dreams, to name a few. (big disc)

Yes, I think you're right! I'm afraid I can't exactly confirm this or not, but I do think you're right. How did you come to this answer, just to sate my curiosity, do you have a copy of the disc?

esgmaster 13-11-2008 05:02 AM

I have the disc, everything you said sounds like it except for the insects, and Last Half of Darkness is  . It does have some good ones on it. (JJR 1 :pwnd: ) A few more it has is: Hugo 1-3, In search of Dr. Riptide (submarine side-scroller), Jazz Jackrabbit 1 ( ), One Must Fall 2097 ( :borg: ), One Must Fall (no 2097 :karate: ), Lost Vikings (demo), Black Thorne (demo), Dragon Shard, Traffic Department 2185, this weird magazine demo (Twilight Zone music plays), Monster Bash, Scuba Man, Billy the Kid, Smashing Pumpkins into Smash Pieces of Debris, (weird title, weirder game :rambo: :apple: ), and many more. Maybe you might be thinking of SPiSPoD. (it has a desert level with pumpkins, and maybe something that looks like a bug, 'cause its been a long time since I played that.)

I got those...two different one's. Those also include walktroughs and copy-protection answers.

I'm thinking this is probably super-against the rules, but would it be possible to make an ISO of the disc and host it at a filesharing website? It would be a huge blast-from-the-past experience for me, and I remember there were actually a few games that I never played, for one reason or another.

Sorry, I would like to help you but many games of that compilation are still sold or protected, it's forbidden here. You can't do that into Abandonia...you are both free to do what you want, but out of this site.
Thanks for collaboration. :)

This could be interesting for you btw, EpicMegagames store:
