Elder Scrolls Arena, install not valid command.

I downloaded Elder Scrolls Arena from the Elder Scrolls website, and when I try to follow the instructions they included, I get stuck in the cmd section where it says to go into the games configuration. It says you're supposed to type in Install, but cmd doesn't recognize install as a valid command and nothing happens.

Maybe I read this wrong and I am not supposed to go into cmd or command and do all of this inside dosbox itself, but I tried all of this in dosbox as well. In case you thought that might be it.

I also tried ignoring the instructions and trying to boot it as if they didn't exist and it was a normal dos game, but it says it needs to be booted in win32.

The version of dosbox they are basing the instructions off of is version 5.4 or something, so that might be it. I don't know. I have downloaded several other games, this is the first one I have had a real problem with getting to work.

You are supposed to do this in DOSBox, yes.
Start DOSBox, go into the directory where you unpacked the game and type in these:
dir *.exe
dir *.com
dir *.bat
dir *.* /w
Take a screenshot after executing each command and post them here.

Yeah I already tried ignoring the install half of the instructions and doing what you said. It just does this. Either that its not valid or that it needs to be run under win32.

That "Arena106.exe" file is a self-extracting RAR archive that you must run in Windows, it will extract the game files. Then you have to run "install.exe" once from DOSBox. But until you extract "install.exe" and the rest of the files from the archive you won't be able to do anything, and the archive's self-extractor is for Windows.

You can just follow the instructions in the PDF accompanying the download from http://www.elderscrolls.com/arena/, although it advises to install the game at "C:\arena" and "mount c c:\", and that's never very advisable. It claims that you can run install.exe from the Windows command line, but run it from DOSBox too for good measure; I'm pretty sure it would be necessary at least if you had Windows x64.

Very, very nice game, believe me!

For me this game and Betrayer at Krondor are my favorites.

YOU are lucky to play Arena after solving this problem!!
