Editing levels in Avish: Searching For The Exit

Well, I was playing that painfully hard game, when I realized that sinci the map was made up of simple tiles, I might be able to modify the levels, or even make my own! So I lurked around the Avish folder, and realized that the levels are all in resource.dat, because I found their name.

So far, it would seem that changing the names of the levels breaks the DAT file.

Dang, so does just changing the DAT at all. Anyone know of a way around data checks?

I shall post more discovery as I learn more about the mapping.

There's probably a checksum hidden somewhere.

do you think it's possible to destroy that checksum?

"destroy"? you need to recalculate it

or crack the game

when I said destroy the checksum I was using the more miking-sounding version of cracking it. Are there any tips on how to do that? I know a bit of C++, enough to make a text adventure, at least.
