One of two possibilities: 1) The market is such that people will pay that much for a copy of the game. 2) People are sitting on copies they've played, have no expectations of playing again, and can wait indefinitely to get the money they want. Either way, that doesn't make them morons. It's funny what people will pay or do when they perceive they really want something.
IMO, at $40, Wizardry 8 is overpriced, but it is the last in the series. I would expect to something as low as $20 if you keep looking up on Amazon. I'm sure they turn up regularly.
