After reading yesterday's Daggerfall thread, I decided to give this old game a try again. However, I'm having trouble installing it under Windows XP (using dosbox)..

I mounted my cdrom as D, and then mounted an empty folder on my HD as C. I changed to the D drive and ran the install, it asked me to where to install. After telling it to proceed with the "medium" install, it just seems to freeze there (at "preparing installation").

AM I doing something wrong? :(

Do you point in the install for the installation directory to exactly c: ? Not to some directory called c:\games\daggerfall or similar?

I created a thread about it a few days ago here

This, under VDM with the right options turned on or off, will make it run.
However there is still a major problem, that of invisible quests.
Sometimes enemies related to a quest will be invisible.
This is due to a VESA graphic-error and I have not yet found a solution for it.

hmm I tried that package, and I installed VDM. Setup sound correctly (testing worked) and I managed to run the game WITH sound. Everything is fine until I start a new game, and as soon as I select a home province, it crashes to DOS and gives me the following error message:

Quote:

Daggerfall has encountered an internal error at 0.
The error reported was: Code: 211 not found in
Exiting...

Any ideas?

Hmmm, the onky thing that happens that is a new window opens and a soundfile plays...
Are you running it from a cd or did you download it?

Jenny 17-12-2004 04:46 PM

Yep I have the original cd and it's in the drive that the z.cfg points to!

Stroggy 17-12-2004 05:26 PM

Odd, you didn't choose the option that enables you to play it without cd, did you? That usually doesn't work.

Jenny 17-12-2004 06:16 PM

no I didn't select that :)
