DaG II - B.A.T. Bureau of Astral Troubleshooters

Hi there! I have this game Bureau of Astral Troubleshooters.
The version of mine is in italian, so I was thinking a backup of it could be uploaded on this site.

However, the game is this:

Hello,

Since we offer this game as a download, I'm sure we could put your Italian version to good use. I will ask a moderator for you to provide you the FTP Access for contributors. Then we will upload the Italian version as an extra. I'm sure many people will appreciate it.

Have a nice day. :)

I have a backup of the floppy disks and the installation directory.
What should I upload?

marko river 15-07-2013 12:09 PM

Everything. If game is installed and ready to play, without any save games and similar custom stuff, only as it is after installing, zip the folder and that is archive of the game. Floppy images are added as extra.

We already think about adding different language versions of the games, not sure when we will start doing it, but preservation is the most important.

I sent PM about access.

I have sent a PM yesterday. Please, read it!

I have uploaded B.A.T. on the FTP server. Can somebody tell me what I have to do?
PLEASE!!!

Why don't you review something? Here's the list:

Check back every day to see if there are games to be reviewed.

There is already a review for this game: http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/10427/B.A.T..html

I have received some messages and emails for this game, because maybe this is the only surviving italian copy.
In addition, it was suggested to offer the backup of this game to Abandonia.com.
So I have offered the game to you, but the story is becoming an odyssey.
I have sent PMs and messages in this forum, but I rarely received a response.

Replied to your PM.

Game is no FTP, soon it will be backed up and with it preserved for most cases. Thank you for contribution :)

Game is reviewed and on site, so there isn't much you can do about this game currently. We will find a way to provide a download some time soon. We will contact you in case we need something more on this game.

Is there any other goodies you might be able to offer? Also, we are always short on reviews, perhaps you always wanted to review some game and it just happens Abandonia doesn't have review for it?

I could offer you the italian version of Indiana Jones and the Fates of Atlantis. This version is extremely rare and I don't think it was uploaded before.

marko river 23-07-2013 02:13 PM

Sure. Floppy images as well?

Thanks you for the generous offer, but, contrary to what marko river said, we can't accept it since the game was developed and published by LucasArts (aka Lucasfilm Games LLC), which is now owned by Disney, a company with permanent ESA-protection. Thus, the reason why we can't accept it.

marko river 23-07-2013 02:48 PM

Oh, yes, copyright, I forgot about that...

Can we accept images for preservation without adding them to site as long as it is protected? I know it doesn't seems like it will ever be abw again, but still... why risking it to be totally lost.

Not sure, but I'll ask the Abandonia admins about this.

However, regardless of the answer, there is a place which accepts pretty much any old-school game for preservation purposes: the Software Preservation Society. The only requirement is that you either buy and use their KryoFlux universal floppy controller to read the disks' data from the disk drive of your choice, or use a Commodore-manufactured Amiga which meets certain requirements.

Also, in the event you're interested in the KryoFlux for whatever reason, I'd highly recommend you take a look at this user-friendly overview of what the KryoFlux is and what it can do.

As I promised, I uploaded Indiana Jones and The Fate of Atlantis Action Game, italian version.

DaG II 13-09-2013 02:29 PM

I created *.ima files of Italian version of B.A.T. because they have been requested to me in private (a *.ima file is a 1:1 copy of a floppy disk).
Could I upload them (first and second floppy) on ftp? I would like they replaced the zip on the site.

Thanks in advance!

Japo 14-09-2013 05:57 PM

I suppose you mean replacing the extra zip with the contents of the installation disks? Yes please, go ahead and upload it, we'll make the replacement.
