Windows 8!

I've just downloaded Ace Ventura from the ISO section. However I can't get it to install under Windows 8 64-bit. Natively running setup from the Image (mounted with Windows as 8 allows you to mount isos) and in compat mode for Windows 95 and running as Admin it says its not designed for this version of Windows. (Even running ACE displays the same message.)

Running it in D-Fend Reloaded as a Windows profile it says that setup is a MS-DOS program and should be ran in DOSBox.

However running setup in DOSBox and mounting the image under it the screen goes blank then I get returned to Windows saying that DOSBox is having a few issues running. I'm running the latest version of DB.

I'm at a loss on how to get this running...anyone? Also I put it here as no doubt Ace will not be the only game to have this problem.

(Edit: Claw also complains about a 64 bit system and wount run even after setting the compat settings.)

Is a win3 / W9x game. (16b - will not run on 64b systems)

Runs fine in dosbox+Win3
Don't use DFend.
Don't use Win CD mount but the excellent dosbox imgmount.

Take a look in the tutorial section, all you need is there.
As for Win3 should you need it: http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=27770
Be sure to read and apply the instructions.

Or run it in VPC-Win3 / VPC-W98(SE) , runs also fine in VPC.

I'm not used to see users post about Windows 8. It is the new operating system.

Windows have a retarded policy of dropping more and more compatibility from previous OSes... And DOSBox is a free tool maintained by enthusiasms.

There is little for me to say to help you since this is a new problem. I could simply suggest you the same thing than users with Windows 7: look on your installation CD for compatibility options which don't install automatically. Then you might also want to go on the DOSBox site to ask them the question as it might simply be that DOSBox is not compatible with Windows 8 or has issues with it and they might be able to correct this in the future.

DOSBox itself runs fine its just games anyway I figured it was something to do with it being a 64 bit O/S, so I installed my old copy of XP 32 bit under a VM got Claw installed now and updated it runs plays the intro movie, then I get the music and sound FX but a blank screen then I get a error saying Claw has encountered a problem and needs to close. Even with 95 compat and 256 colours and a low res set in compatibility options.

Check if there are any notes about it at the end of the review. Some of those games require additional steps to run.

I didn't catch the fact that this game is a Windows 3.11 game.

This thread might be able to help you.

I didn't think Ace was that old. Just tried Ace and it runs fine under XP expect for a minor graphical glitch that being the status text displaying a weird colour. (The text that shows what your currently selecting.) Claw still crashes though.

Edit: Ok So I installed 3.1 and got a CD driver for it and installed Ace however when I go to run it it says that some library files are missing and that I need to re-install the application.

Not sure, but it may be this:

It's recommended that you use this copy of Windows within DOSBox: http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=27770
Comes preinstalled with the usual pre-requisite libraries, and if something extra turns out neccesary we'll do our best to update it accordingly.
