Main PC:
AMD Sempron 2500+
1 GB RAM (DDR400)
Radeon 9600
Onboard LAN
Onboard sound
USB 2.0
DVD recorder
FDD
2x 80 GB HDD
250 GB HDD
5,25" USB external drive enclosure with a HDD rack mounted in it
USB/PS2 combo optical mouse (A4tech 4D++ - I love these mice, but at the same time it's a bloody pain in the backside to get it working right)
Normal PS/2 keyboard without any multimedia functions (I bloody hate all those stupid extra buttons!!!)
Crummy old monitor that doesn't display resolutions above 1024x768 and has 60 hz as its maximum refresh rate.

Runs under WinXP, but I'm going to use my 2.1 GB spare HDD to run Windows 98 SE on it as a second system, for compatibility purposes.

DOS PC:
Pentium 120
32 MB RAM (EDO SIMM)
ESS soundcard (I think 1887)
1 MB graphics card
1 GB HDD
CD
FDD
Ethernet card
USB 1.0

Runs under Win98SE, also DOS 7.1, but the HDD that had DOS on it started breaking down.

Work PC
Celeron 400
128 MB RAM (DIMM SDR)
ATI Rage XL (8 MB)
Onboard LAN
Onboard sound
HDD rack
40 GB HDD (inside the rack)
80 GB HDD
FDD
CD (I'll replace it shortly with DVD and CD-R drives removed from my home PC when I got the DVD recorder)

Runs under Win98SE

Does anyone know of powerful video card for games like Doom3 to handle? It should not cost over 200$. Or is this a dream? Cause with the ram I'm gettin' soon, a vcard would hit the spot.
I bet this would be a GeForce 6600 or 6800, huh?
P.S. Or would ATI be a better choise for this? I don't really know much about it... :tomato:

over 200?
man you can get good graphic card for 200$ (maybe we in slovakia have cheap components or something, i dont know)
and there is always discussion about what graphic cards are better- nvidia or ati some people say nvidia some people say ati.. so its up to you
see some test in pc magazines or on net

in my opinion, it doesnt matter much, both developers are good, they are well knows in whole world and have lots of costomers with great support

I think I won't care for any expense next year, when I buy my new pc. It'll be like:
- Money is no object. :D (just waitin' for the day I can say this freely).
Wonder if a laptop is worth buying... hmmm...

_r.u.s.s. 24-04-2006 04:23 PM

that depends on what do you use your computer. if you are student on university then it might be useful. but if you use it as home pc for fun and browsing sites then its not worth of course. notebooks cost more becouse all the different/minimised parts and good cooling system etc used for mobility

Stebbi 24-04-2006 04:28 PM

Nvidia is better! There was sometesting and stuff......and stuff.....But hey i got my Graphic cards to 65° that's hot, only a little hotter and the the alarm would have started.

_r.u.s.s. 24-04-2006 04:32 PM

nvidia is more commerce, not better :bleh:
by the way, buy new cooler
