Website offering a few old Sierra games

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...n-Your-Browser

Here's the article from another website - referencing the website that is offering the Sierra games.

At this time, the owner of the site providing the games *is* offering the games for free, completely non-profit, and requesting to Sierra that since it is completely not for profit, and since the games are basically unavailable any other way, that they not shut him down or sue for copyright infringement.

No telling where this will lead - but if somebody would like to contact him it would make a decent article.

This is interesting. Activision is very very unrelenting though so I doubt he'll get away with it. Sierra may have left ESA but I fear that, with the resale of those games only a year or two ago tops, he may get a CAD warning.

Heck, I just visited the site and it's down. This may be a coincidence, but the extra attention may have already killed it.

The links there just redirect me to Amazon.com. What are you talking about?

This site.

It works again now it seems. I do wonder how long it will be allowed to stay up though.

Yes, I'm talking about that site. Where are the free games? Nowhere. Just some amazon links.

Edit: I'm beginning to understand now how these games are available :mhh:

Erm you need to click on the pictures :p You're looking at the "Source" tab. Or are you using an incompatible browser?

I get it now. But I feel kind of weird with all those other people around. No, thank you.

Well, maybe it would be a good time to get his email addy, to interview him when Sierra drops the Hammer of Doom on him for CR infringement.

Either way - get it while it's "hot", I suppose.

Tried it, found it wasn't worthwhile. They are single player games after all.

I'll see what we can do for the next issue - it would make a better "news" bit, however, which I might still fit in the first issue.

Panthro 28-04-2009 06:24 PM

I have heard that they have been told to shut it down by presumably Vivendi or Activision/Blizzard. Perhaps not a good thing to have in the news section!

red_avatar 29-04-2009 03:38 AM

That's what I feared - still, it would make a nice short article and we'd just be mentioning it, after all. If they close down, we can alter it to talk about the closure.

I didn't get any audio when I tried a game. Is that not implemented or am I doing something wrong? I think I'll stick to virtualapple.org for a quick Sierra fix since they have the IIgs versions of the old AGI games, which are the best versions in my opinion. Superior sound in them.
