Hi

First of all: Thanks for putting this old game up. :ok:
It was one of my first 10 pc games i ever had (together with Pharaos Tomb, Grand Prix Circuit, Commander Keen 1, Great Courts, PGA Tour Golf, Death Tracks, Wolfpack, Ports of Call, Nibbels/Godzilla).

That game was one of the most frustrating :brain: ones i ever had :wallbash: .
I even somehow remember those stupid whatever guys laughing or singing every time i failed :sos:
But after all, even being such a bad game :tomato: , i also had my fun and never forgot about it (perhaps because of that nonsense name).

P.S. I hope i didn't make too many mistakes as English is not my mother language. :whistling:

Don't worry about your English, you're using it very well.

It's nice to see people enjoy and remember the games that are put on the site. Hope you find many more :ok:

Hmm, after asking around a bit, it seems we used to have the English version of this game (although I thought it different). We should have it lying around somewhere...

I've never played this game, but the name immediately reminded me of KGB, a game oh so close to my heart.

One of the first games on PC I`ve ever played, and that computer I played it on was in one of soviet comittees. You coulds make several hundreds of steps from that PC and see loading screen in reality (without head of Gorbachev, though). I`m pretty shure that government played Perestroika, as range of games in center of Moscow was much the same (sorry for my english). I liked this game, but it was hard for me and, being a kid, I understood almost nothing in all these democrats, bureaucrats and taxes.

I remember the awesome soundeffects from this game, but now I can't get it to play them again. I tried fiddling with Dosbox settings, and also VDM, but I can't make it work.

I'm sure there should be singing in the intro screen, and the ingame sounds should be way cooler too (when you die for example, "njup! njup! cha-cha-cha!).

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps you need a COVOX to work (a little something we soldered together on a piece of paper and plugged into our LPT1 port back in the days). But I don't know how to emulate one.

Any ideas?

Heh, laughing to myself, for all off you who don't know, the producers name is russian and that's a picture of gorbachev on the screenshot. Hmm wonder if it could have anything to do with the name? Actually it does, Perestroika in russian literally means "Rebuildment" Hope I helped clear the mystery of the name up :)

P.S. Never actually played the game

[edit]

There is a way to actually hear the awesome sound effects, load the TOPPLER.DAT file into a program that can play .voc files (something from the time when the first Sound Blaster cards became available).

I actually have some old .wav files, might be worth putting up here?

i have tried loading toppler.dat in some players which -should- play .voc players but no luck, which program do you use?
