I encountered a problem. I played up to the point where I purchased Space Quest IV hint book at the software store. Then I received a message (an error message, I think) saying that "993.v56 not found".

It might be a missing file. Prior to playing I already applied 3 patches I got from Sierra ftp server, so I guess the one in the archive here is incomplete.

Anybody else experiences this problem?

I just did a quick search on google.com and I found this: http://www.spacequest.net/sq4/fixes/

Quote:

992.v56 not found or 993.V56 not found Fix
The disk version of SQ4 must be run using the SQ4.BAT file that comes with the game. If you don't, the game will not find certain files, like VIEW.993 (it will look for 993.v56 insted) or SCRIPT.541. If you want to run SCIDHUV, enter "SCIDHUV -N" in the DOS prompt.

Keep in mind that running the game the correct way will invalidate those saved games saved when running the game the incorrect way (which is running SCIDHUV.EXE directly without the -N option).

That is my mistake then. I have to start over the game. Oh well...

Does the second-last comment at http://www.spacequest.net/sq4/fixes/ make any sense to you?

No question, but a remark to help others who might encounter something similiar.

There seems to be a problem with the VGA320.drv supplied through SpaceQuest.net,
which supposed to make some flickering go away, or at least it proved a problem for me :) After installing it, SQ4 wouldn't start anymore and just exited with something like:

"You did something we weren't expecting you to do.... Error 4"

After reinstalling the game and ^not^ replacing the driver, everything worked like a charm. I must add, that I didn't encounter the problem which this patch is supposed to fix, so I guess to old credo "if it ain't broke etc." still stands :P

you guys are lucky. I haven't been able to get it to work under dosbox, abandonloader, or SoundVDMS. Anybody have a clue if you had to do something special? So far I can get SQ1, SQ1VGA, 3, 5, and 6 to run. Six crashed when I had to take care of the old hag. I might be missing another patch, but I downloaded one which fixed the endodroid runner talking and the sickbay com.

Hey, I havn't downloaded this version from the site, but I assume its the Disk version and not the CD version. If anyone was interested, the CD version has been updated by a guy here: http://forum.spacequest.net/viewtopic.php?...der=asc&start=0
:)

I put in the right protection codes, but they never work. Help.

DonCorleone 07-02-2005 02:04 PM

You mean in the time pod? Thatīs no Protection code. Just do the wild finger and type several times (I think three times will do) anything you want... :bye:
