Hi Ya'll :)
I've not been around here for awhile, but I just saw the preview for that new Johnny Depp movie - The Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest, and I noticed that the "bad guy" pirate (I've no idea what his name is) posesses an animated beard distinctly similar to that of our good old friend the evil pirate Le Chuck's (of Monkey Island fame :) ) squiggly facial hair.....

Is this a huge conspiracy, or am I just drinking way too much coffee :sneaky:

Anyways, you can check out the trailer/preview here if you feel like it -

It's probably the coffee, but the similarity IS striking (to me anyway  )

Barbarossa in the first movie looked a lot like Le Chuck (at least in his zombified form)

Quintopotere 03-07-2006 03:31 PM

he looks too different for me... but in the movie there is even a black voodoo woman...

Orlando Bloom looks like guybrush and Keira Knightley like governor marley :D

It's hard to believe the guy who wrote that the MI series was based on the PotC film. Ilitterate amateur. *shocked*

Too true! - Although Mister Bloom lacks that certain Spunk™ that Guybrush Threepwood had...

.....Come to think of it, I reckon he's pretty much Spunk™less in general; but that, of course, is just my humble opinion...

Personally I've always considered Pirates of the Carribean the official movie of Monkey Island.

Lucullus 04-07-2006 12:04 PM

Wouldn't that be the UNofficial movie of Monkey Island?

That is all.

I stand by my statement...

I've always had wonderful dreams and longings over the idea of a Monkey Island™ movie (the fact that Pirates of the Caribbean contains pirates and an island and a squigly beard that looks kind of like Le Chucks makes it a poor substitute for the real thing in my mind.)

It wouldn't have to be a Luscasarts/films/whatever production - I mean, just think about it, seriously, if we found a way to harness all the creative bubbling energy that has been spent creating even the shoddiest of the Monkey Island™ fangames (say nothing of the decent ones,) I believe a pretty incredible film could be made.

Better yet, if we could somehow capture and harness the creative energy the has been spent in simply "planning," and announcing on various forums the impending Monkey Island™ fangames that actually never get made - WOW! We'd be unstoppable, that's lightning in a bottle take-over-the-world-type power!

But I digress....

If standing in the shallows waiting for tortoises to gather then tying them all together with the hairs on his back to make a raft and sail away isn't Monkey Island then nothing is.

I know it didn't happen but just the idea.

I'm a great fan of Monkey Island series :kosta: ... but I really hope that they'll never make a movie about it! :tai:
The video games are just "art", and no movie or cartoon could reach the same perfection...

Iron_Scarecrow 06-07-2006 04:59 PM

They could... but it wouldn't be easy.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bobbin Threadbare @ Jul 4 2006, 01:42 PM) </div>Okay, the lucasarts one is obvously related. However, how's the gamespot link related to this topic. I mean, it's about the guy who made the series but he doesn't metion pirates of the carabean anywhere.

...oh wait, there's a second page, part way down. Okay, the genesis of the series has it's roots... Got it.
