Really minor... but very handy.

A separate URL (or a parameter to the current URL, dunno) that will display the whole list at once, sorted alphabetically, not requiring any user input.

Would be useful to avoid problems with people who have trouble operating the search feature of the list.

:omg:

Now that would be a long long long list :bleh:

Hmm, maybe a downloadable CSV file? You can then open it in Excel.

Tom Henrik 14-04-2006 01:09 PM

Well, I see one flaw with a downloadable file.
(But maybe that's just because I am territorial).

If you have a file with the name of every game in the list - complete with the status of the game (and maybe also a link) - then everyone could simply copy the list onto their own website.

All they would have to do is simply download the new file every month or so, and their list would be fairly accurate. Meanwhile - I am stuck with all the work. :(

The same can be said of anything on the site, the screenshots, the reviews, the games themselves, all can be taken and placed on somebody else's site without credit being given to to original authors.

The oldwares list would be dealt with in the same way, if it emerges that another site is hosting the list without giving credit to you then it will be dealt with in the same way.

I think the idea is a good one, especially the one of downloading the file, but an onlnie version would nice too. What about sorting them alphabetically, so you can see all the games beginning with A, then all the Bs, etc, on different pages, to avoid a huge list on one page.

What size would such a file be, btw?

The Fifth Horseman 14-04-2006 01:28 PM

I guess pretty large.

If displaying the list on a single page would be a problem, what about an option to request the list to display all the games with name starting by a specific letter, through a syntax like http://www.abandonia.com/main.php?nav=awlist&letter=A ? That would be good enough.

Tom Henrik 14-04-2006 01:49 PM

I don't follow you now...

There is already an option to list the games by the letters...
(I probably have misunderstood something).

Edit:
(For the interested:)

The only game that won't show up on the list, if you search through all the letters is:
μ-cade (aka Mu-cade)

:w00t:

(But we'll create a new genre for that one hopefully. Above 0-9 maybe, titled #-% or something :bleh: )

You really have to be mentally challenged, to read through all the files then using simple and clear search...

The Fifth Horseman 14-04-2006 02:17 PM

Well, the suggestion IS indeed intended to be used for mentally-challenged (and n00b) cases.

Tom: I know it can be sorted by letter... however, what I am asking for is to make a possibility of inputting the search parameters through an URL, without doing anything with the search controls. Currently we can only direct people to the main search page and not search results.

if the form was changed to a method=get then you could simply put them through an url.
now you have to use a more sophisticated way to get it.
