Just thought I'd vent here. Withtout being too specific, I have been looking for certian (non-ESA protected) abandonware games. Games like Rocky's Boots and the Super Solver's series (I know they are selling windows Super Solvers but I'm looking for ones that aren't in that new series). In my search for them I eventually turned to Google and found two abandonware sites have them.

But here's the catch. One of the sites requires you pay to download. (And this site comes up on Google alot of the time.) The other requires you register on various other sites and give them personal information before they'll let you download.

This sucks! Now I can see paying IF we're talking about high bandwidth old games. CD-rips and the like. But the little ones should be free. And this selling my soul to their corporate machine for downloads... well I did it but obvously I'm not happy about it.

So I'm going to review these games and get them up on abandonia for everyone so no-one has to do that ever again.

(By the way, I've still got 2 games and a bizillion bits granted me to download on the sell-your-soul site. If you happen to find that site and see a game there that you don't want to register for but can't find anywhere else, let me know and I'll get it for you.)

Assuming everything you said is right, then you would do this site and the Abandonware scene in general a big favor. So go for it, but don't forget or neglect some research first to make sure they are really Abandonware and if Kosta is ready to host them on his site too. :ok:

This wouldn't be the site calling itself "Free" Game Downloads, would it?

Master MC 22-04-2006 11:30 PM

Yeah that one. It bugs me terribly. I remember searching for CIV1, and boy did I search a lot. That site offered me a 'free download'. Months later I discovered Abandonia. :)

On the other hand, We force visitors to return to our site with blinding promises of new games every day, and we manage to lure many into registering at the forum, and then we start to controle theire minds and turn them into slave-workers for the site, so we can get even more n00bs sucked into the vortex of Abandonia! We will sometimes force our slaves to click the one and only mighty banner to prove they are loyal to theire new god; Kosta, instead of having many banners that might be confused with having many minor gods to needs to be feed with you sacrifise of bandwith for loading the sponsoring empires mighty homepage.

*erhm*

Better lay off that LSD for a while....

We're all talking 'bout this site?
Woot, never flamed a site before!

There's no need to bother using that site's client as the files you are downloading are actually being pulled from HOTUD and a few other major abandonware sites.

I find that mostly I can find any game I want between HOTUD and Abandonia.
But, yes i know that frustration! :wall:
