Tom Henrik 03-12-2004 10:54 AM

This is the closest you will get to a legal download of the game.
Link Removed...David

Omuletzu 03-12-2004 01:22 PM

The game you are asking for is not abw!

Mickey Bitsko 03-12-2004 03:53 PM

Quest for Glory 4 1/2 is a lot of fun. :OK:

And it may be difficult, if not impossible, to find the "official" Quest for Glory series in stores, they're available for sale on the internet.

*Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire

Hello all,
I contacted the admin or whoever got my e-mail about me wanting to join the review crew. I've been a gamer for over 13 years and have played almost every game there is from pong to Halo 2.

I would like to start by reviewing QFG5 because I've recently finished the game and have very strong feelings about it. I can provide any screenshots necessary. The game might not be available for download on your average website because the game is around 1.5 gig.

Thanks,
Regards,
-Rog

The Niles 27-12-2004 07:29 PM

I would have to say no as that game is serious warez. Any other game that IS abandonware is welcome though.

Rog 27-12-2004 07:54 PM

What about QFG2?

Tom Henrik 27-12-2004 08:07 PM

We haven't gotten a clearance for that game yet. I don't know if we will anytime soon, but right now QfG2 will not be added.

And who clears it?

Tom Henrik 27-12-2004 08:11 PM

The abandonware community

The people who have the rights.

Tom Henrik 27-12-2004 08:13 PM

When it comes to Sierra it is a combination of both.

1. Sierra must not support it any more.
2. The abandonware community discuss the status of the game, to see if it i safe to mark it as abandoned.

Cant just someone mail Sierra and ask them?

Tom Henrik 27-12-2004 08:21 PM

1. Sierra doesn't support it. (Done)
2. The Abandonware community is still discussing the risks involved in declaring the game abandoned (Not done)

Yamcha 27-12-2004 08:29 PM

What are the risks?I mean if the creator doesnt support it its abandoned isnt it?

Kon-Tiki 27-12-2004 08:31 PM

For the risks... just mail the devs of those games. If Sierra doesn't support it anymore, and you ask them 'bout the legal and non-legal risks of putting it up for download, you'll get the best advice on it ;)

Rog 27-12-2004 11:49 PM

I cant remember the name. I cantact the admin of this website about reviewing games. He said I could help and told me to drop by the forums.

Tom Henrik 27-12-2004 11:56 PM

http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1658

Take a look at that, and see if you would like to review any of these.
(If there is a name under it, the game is taken)

:bye:

Rog 28-12-2004 12:06 AM

Thanks. Im going to apply for Rise of the dragon. :OK:

Tom Henrik 28-12-2004 12:53 AM

Whooops....

That should have been removed. It got added yesterday.

I havent seen this one anywhere, it is still protected and not allowed to be freely available?

Any idea why? not for breaking rules but what happens when a company says its ok
do they suddenly announce it?

Fawfulhasfury 28-12-2004 03:29 PM

No. It's ABW if they just don't sell or in any way support the game. They still sell and support QFG4. I hope that answered your question. :ok:

BLOODUK 28-12-2004 04:38 PM

Yep... guess ill go cry now

ReamusLQ 28-12-2004 04:42 PM

They still sell and support QFG4? I could have sworn they abandoned that ENTIRE branch of Adventure Games! Where can I find this!?!?!? I must know!

Fawfulhasfury 28-12-2004 05:02 PM

Actually, that's what one of the admins told me. I'm just going by their word.

Rog 28-12-2004 05:32 PM

Sierra does not support any of their old titles anymore. Like the Quest for Glory series, the Space Quest series, the Police Quest Series, the eco quest series, and every other game they ever made. Mainly because of new managment and they converted Sierra to just a publisher.

ReamusLQ 28-12-2004 09:30 PM

What the crap is the ESA and why are they so freaking protective about games that no ones buys anymore? It's like a girl that had thousands of bottles of viagra, and refused to part with any of it to her male friends in need simply because it's HERS. They have no use for it! There is no reason!

goblins 28-12-2004 09:30 PM

The only way to change individual companies is to keep emailing them once a week asking for them to realise as freeware - nothing wrong with that approach just individuals asking the software companies to do the right thing with older games and make em freely available if they dont make money from them anymore.

goblins 28-12-2004 09:34 PM

reamous - the only way to get individual companies to change their mind is persistant pressure through emails - if enough people are persistant enough it does yield results.

Quest For Glory IV

Sorry, dont really know how to determine what is abandonware. IF this game falls into that category id like to see it, i did notice QfG III was up so i thought it a possibility. If its not abandonware yet feel free to delete the post.

Cheers,
Porgy

ReamusLQ 16-01-2005 10:46 PM

This has been requested numerous times, and all that's waiting (aside from actually confirming that it IS abandonware) is a reivew for it...which I am writing as well as the QFG 1 EGA and QFG 2

Fawfulhasfury 16-01-2005 10:50 PM

The fourth one is not ABW. Sorry.

mikebarry 16-01-2005 10:50 PM

In the meantime, perhaps try out Quest For Glory 4 1/2: So You Thought You Were A Hero?

I haven't tried it, but maybe it'll hold you over for now.

ReamusLQ 16-01-2005 11:25 PM

yeah, for some reason when ever I tried to play 4 1/2 it was always buggy for me. At first, it wouldn't let me beat the game which was extremely disappointing, and now when I try to play it the application kind of freezes black and doesn't do anything...suggestions? XP user here

shaidarharan 16-01-2005 11:36 PM

Well...I read below that QfG IV isn't abandonware, I assume V surely isn't, then. Does anyone know? I've seen it for sale at Ebay....

ReamusLQ 17-01-2005 12:38 AM

definately not abandonware, and even if it was, I assume it would be a game only available in the VIP section because it would be so freaking huge. Just get a copy from e-bay, or keep your eye out in "used game" bins.

Omuletzu 17-01-2005 11:47 AM

It's not that good either :sucks:

Blood-Pigggy 22-01-2005 08:14 PM

Umm, Fallout is widely available in Bundles, and Jewel Cases, you just have to go to the right store.

And Quest for Glory... only 1 & 2 are available, all the others are being guarded by Sierra.

Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness

Hey, im very new to Abandonia, and have just been checking out some of the games. I downloaded Quest for Glory 1 and i really enjoyed it, but i was dissapointed with 3. I have however heard a lot of good things about QFG4, but i can find nowhere to purchase it or download it, i searched the forum about anything regarding where to acquire it, but there was nothing, or maybe i just havent searched hard enough. If anyone can send me a copy or point me in the right direction as to where to find it i would be really appreciative, thanks. :D

Flop 06-04-2005 10:43 AM

Quest for Glory is indeed a great game, and my personal favourite in that series, but if you turn your eyes to this thread, you'll see that it's not abandoned.

If I were you, I'd see if I could find a store that sells it, since it's definitely worth playing.

ChaosEngine 06-04-2005 10:55 AM

Ahh, missed that thread, thanks Flop. I'll take your advice. :)

RituroErganesti 06-04-2005 08:45 PM

If you liked QFG3, 4 will blow you away. All the elements you've come to know and love are still there and amplified a hundred fold. One knock: no evil deity should ever have a name that makes you and your best friend split sides laughing.

"Yah, Avoozl!" :bleh:

ro4sho 29-04-2005 11:25 PM

One game i've been searching for ages is Quest for glory 5 anyone has this one?

a1s 29-04-2005 11:57 PM

first of all- it's still sold, and second- it's a really dissapointing game, you're not realy missing much. :max:

ro4sho 30-04-2005 12:04 AM

Ow i didn't knew that.. can't find it anywhere over here! but why is it dissapointing?? i finished all the other 4 and i loved them.

a1s 30-04-2005 12:10 AM

so did I (well, except for the 2nd one), but the 5th one decided to go with the trend, and replace gameplay and story with cool 3d graphics, which aren't that cool today. Now, while I am exagerating a bit, but not much. most of the people here will tell you that dragons breath was the worst one of the quintology. :(

rabadi 30-04-2005 01:10 AM

Well, I actually like QfG5 the most, followed by QfG1. I haven't played QfG2 (still waiting for the remake by AGDI), so I can't comment on that. QfG3 and QfG4 are okay.

If you can get your hand on the freeware QfG4.5, get it. It's funny :D

Charmed 30-04-2005 08:11 AM

Hey, I also like QFG 5

Maybe, it's cause I didn't play every single earlier one?

ro4sho 30-04-2005 01:26 PM

LOL charmed i would reccomend you 2 play all the other ones..
And for the ones that didn't play the 2nd one.
Go play ! you missing something.

But you all bought the game?? and where did you bought it?

rabadi 02-05-2005 12:59 AM

QfG5 is still available in local stores near where I live, so I don't need to order it online... not that I want to order online anyway (I had a bad case with ordering online through Amazon years ago) :D

As for QfG2, I will still wait for the remake by AGDI.

makai 24-05-2005 05:13 AM

i have been all over the internet for the past month looking for the game/isos... if i could get a link to download it that would be great
ive found some links on vintage-sierra.com but the site hosting the game shut down. So, if i could get any direction where to download thi game, it would be great

TheChosen 24-05-2005 06:54 AM

Quest For Glory 5-Dragon Fire is not abandonware.

Doc Adrian 24-05-2005 12:10 PM

Amazon has it, you could order alot of the sierra games there too. you may pay 100 dollars for an anthology set, but you get about 7-9 games for 100 dollars..not to shabby for legal software and docs

The anthology doesn't worth its price, especially because you can find easily the first four titles to download.

Yeah, it's overpriced. I bought for roughly 50 dollars when it came out.

and maybe

Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire released in 1998

The Fifth Horseman 04-05-2008 09:33 AM

Since Sierra is a Vivendi subsidiary, and Vivendi just left ESA... quite possibly.
If they're not sold anywhere, that is.

I only seem to be able to find second hand copies of the games:)

Edit:
I could upload: Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness

and I hope somebody out there's got

Edit2:
If its decided they are abandoned

However I haven't found original copies for Quest for Glory V.

i have a copy of QFG V but am i allowed to upload it? If so give me a bit of time to get it back from my mate :)

Frodo 07-06-2008 02:50 AM

QFG5 comes on 2 cds, and is 959 MB. I think that's too large for the site :worried:

_r.u.s.s. 07-06-2008 09:03 AM

you can upload it to iso cellar ysorian. stick around for a while, and you will be granted an access

ysorian 07-06-2008 09:18 PM

oooo... special access :o whats an iso cellar btw?

Doink 08-06-2008 08:55 AM

For some reason you have to post 20 or something posts to have access to a part of the forum that has links to complete ISO's of games

_r.u.s.s. 08-06-2008 10:48 AM

it's not 20 posts anymore, cause people went on spamming spree, so he will just have to stick for a while and be granted this acces when it's the time

ysorian 08-06-2008 08:19 PM

i hate to wait  lmao

Quest for Glory 4 & 5

Hi there!

Has anyone been working on a review of QFG 4 or 5?

If not, I might write up a review for both of them and upload them here since both are downloadable, I believe.

I might not be able to get 5 however, but I need to find my backup CDs (house got burgled long time ago and the CDs were stolen).

Cheers,

IV is definitely [APPROVED] since New Year.

I don't want to approve V since it would have been under ESA protection till 2014. I don't want to trigger the annoyed mode of Sierra. I don't think that leaving the ESA means an immediate abolition of all protections. I don't, I don't, I don't... I know.

QFG V is also a Windows CD game - two CDs if I recall correctly. I doubt it would get hosted. Also, it's nearly impossible to run on modern systems :( Last time I tried to get it running, I spent an entire afternoon trying to find a way. There was something causing problems but I forgot what.

Most of us agreed not to make Marketplace count though for obvious reasons. Might as well count eBay then - same thing.

Luchsen 14-01-2009 12:05 PM

There are too few offers at only high prices anyway. The AW list doesn't say sold, the threads doesn't say sold, and we are still handling such offers as single collector's items for private trade.

Quest for Glory Anthology (1996) a package that includes the first four games, including the fully patched CD version of QFG IV; game copy protection codes (a feature of Quest for Glory 4) are included in the manual and on CD, while game saves are included in the save folder of the CD and the VGA version of Quest for Glory 1.

I'll have to check what fixes the Anthology has. Most fixes are speed related I take it? The Space Quest series had a bunch of speed fixes as well.

rabadi 15-01-2009 09:58 AM

A few months ago I replayed all five: QfG 1 VGA, QfG 2 VGA Remake by AGDI, QfG 3, QfG 4 and QfG 5. I remember applying a patch for QfG 4, but forgot from where I downloaded it. No crash whatsoever. I can upload the patch if anybody wants. Give me a couple of days first to find the file though, since I already burnt the games on CD, but did not bother to give it label, and I have lots of CDs in similar fashion

EDIT: But I am pretty sure someone else will post a link to the patch soon enough

Old post, I know.. sorry about the bump. Yes, QFG4 had the voice acting. Jonathan Rhys-Davies is the narrator, and he called this game the never-ending project from hell. He talks a lot!

Panthro 10-05-2011 10:55 PM

Since my post I actually reviewed the talkie version for this very website! Apparently JR-D got given extra lines a lot, and didn't get much extra pay... the other fun bit is when you're talking to the three guys in the pub. The voice acting is different to the written text, they decided it was funny enough to keep it that way.

tra- 25-05-2011 09:45 PM

lul I remember this, I think it's been a good 10 years since I played this.

It was pretty nice and addictive for awhile (the 5th one), didn't play the rest unfortunately..

There was just a lack of certain things like equipments and etc.. story was fine I guess. I remember the particular fun classes being the paladin and thief, the former class: you would never find the need to even change your base equipment if I recalled.

Thief is just... well... fun in many ways =\
You get to see loads of stuff you wouldn't with the other classes.
