Elder Scrolls - Daggerfall, The

I thought i'd start a thread about this elusive game. Can anybody upload it, or refer a link to where it can be downloaded. I simply havn't been able to find it after hours of searching and im sure there are a lot of people like myself who would really like to help keep this game alive, as soon as we find it. I heard that Bethesda (the creators) requested that all abandonware sites remove the game from their downloads, this doesn't make sense as it is not available for purchase and there are no plans to re-release it. Any replies would be appreciated, by the way I recommend anyone who can to check it out, apparently its an RPG of incredible scope even today.

IF this game will be abandonware, I'm sure Bethesda will release it on their homepage (www.elderscrolls.com), just as they did with Arena.

The game is not abw, and thus we can't upload it, or give links to sites that host it(if there are any).

This is my understanding of abandonware
What abandonware is

1. The definition of abandonware
Abandonware is defined as any PC or console game that is:
1. At least four years old
2. Not being sold or supported by the company that produced it or by any other company. When a certain piece of Abandonware is later found to be sold or supported by a company, then it ceases to be Abandonware.

# What is NOT abandonware
Software that is either:

1. Less than four years old
2. Still sold and/or supported by a company

# How something ceases to be abandonware
When a software company decides that they are going to start selling or supporting an old games again.

Daggerfall fits this criteria or any other conceivable criteria.

If that is true and Bethesda did request that abw sites removed Daggerfall then it makes no difference whether it fits the requirements for abw or not.

Bethesda still own the copyright for the game and have every right to request that it is not distributed. They do not need any reason to do so as it is their game and they can do what they like. Abw is illegal so the fact that Bethesda are asking people nicely instead of shutting them down or taking legal action is actually a good thing.

Also, you have no idea (unless you work for Bethesda, but I'm guessing you don't else why would you be asking? ) what Bethesda's plans are for the game. They may be holding it back for a compilation of Elder Scrolls games or the budget game companies could be bidding on it at this very minute. Just because they haven't publicly stated what their plans for the game are, doesn't mean they don't have any!

However, I believe you are correct that, were it not for Bethesda, it would fit the requirements for abw. I cannot find it for sale anywhere and I'm not sure Bethesda really supports it anymore.

The fact that Bethesda requested that nobody distribute the game, in my eyes doesn't make it any more illegal than every piece of available software on this site. Though I guess I'll just have to put my faith in them and trust that they will distribute it again in the near future, the number of copies is declining as is its availability, it'd be a damn shame for it to fade into such rareness that its essentially gone forever.

And so?

Itīs called morality -

It is their software,
And we support their wishes,
If it is their wish that their game wonīt be found here,
The so it shall be -

The "illegality" makes no difference in this matter /-

Indeed, I was stating that legality isn't an issue in any case concerning abandonware

Does abandonware have to be both of those?
for example (and only example)
If something like UT2003 was stopped being sold or supported by the company, would it be abandonware or does it have to be more than 4 years old too?

hmm...so this means that Arena was announced freeware by Bethesda, which I certainly doubt.

By the way Mad-E-Fact, you got a kind of avatar that we normally don't see everyday. LOL
