Rock and blues, nothing more I need :D

Rock'n'Roll has been an integrated (?) part of my life for the last say, 25 years. I still love bands like AC/DC, Motorhead and Ramones. Pure rock'n'roll. I can't stand 'cuddly and cute' rock though.

I'll even propose that music without guitar (could be two), bass, drums and vocals isn't rock'n'roll. The opposite would be a Harley without an engine. :D

Heh AC/DC and Motorhead and especially Ramones are certainly not rock n' roll, r'n'r is the music from the 50's like Little Richard, Bill Haley and Chuch Berry, the guys that started it all...
Then it evolved into rock (without the roll :P) and it's many subgenres...

Well, I agree that it started in the 50's. Buddy Holly ( :) ), Little Richards and Chuck Berry, to name a few were at the frontier, but to say that AC/DC isn't Rock'n'Roll is... strange. They (the old stuff, mind) base their music on the 50's and 60's rock'n'roll and r'n'b. I've even read that sometimes AC/DC is referred to as a rhythm and blues band! Pretty much the same goes for the Ramones. In fact, it was the desire to be able to listen to just that music that made them form the band in the first place :) Ok, so they turned "punk" later, but mostly punk is just a label that says nothing about the music itself. The Ramones never concidered themself a punk band. Just a r'n'r band.

Well I myself consider AC/DC a hard rock band and Ramones punk(their music is just to primitive to be called r'n'r even though their clothing was much like the 50's :P), AC/DC IMO has too much distortion and screaming in their vocals too be called r'n'r, although they have a lot of blues elements in many od their songs...
Well apart from that they all miss boogie woogie bassline which is the basis of most of r'n'r songs...

Mighty Midget 19-09-2006 10:04 PM

Distortion? Like Buddy Holly? Screaming? Like Little Richards? :bleh: ^_^

Also, punk is not a style of music, it's an attitude towards creating and playing. So you can say that some of the "old school"-ers were punks. Another thing is that many "punk" bands started because they wanted back the 50's and 60' music that died in the 70's.

Hey, before you shoot me: I get your meaning ^_^ but there were some early r'n'r acts that didn't have the boogie woogie bass or twangy solo guitar for that matter. R'n'R is more, to me anyway, about chords, chord progression and themes for lyrics (baby, baby, yeah, yeah, yeah! LOL ). In this sence AC/DC, Motorhead and the Ramones are pure r'n'r.
