Alien Logic

I'd like to formally request the disc version of Alien Logic. I have the CD, but I scratched it, because I am such a genius. Also, I've downloaded the CD version from other places, but I can't get it to work through DOSBox. And I've tried some pretty arcane stuff.

It's not a big deal, though. It wasn't all that great of a game. It only did an okay job of bringing to life the world of the pen and paper RPG Skyrealms of Jorune (of which I am an avid fan) but I'd like to play it just a bit.

Thank you in advance.

Well if it's a good game, then it will make it up on the site

It was a fine game, very different from the usual dull, repetitive run of SSI's RPG titles at that time. The thing I remember best about it was that gaining a new skill was linked not only to extra experience, but to playing a sub-game within the game: you went into a sort of uber-consciousness, where skills floated around you, and you floated, as well. You tried to head in the same general direction as the one you wanted--or at least, where you hoped it would be when you arrived. :D It was a nice touch. Good characterizations, if I recall correctly, too.

Yeah, going to WeaveWorld to get new dyshas (spells basically) was cool. The reason I say it's "not that great" is because it's like a "Lite" version of Jorune, and because you could only fight with dyshas.

See what I'm talking about at: http://www.jorune.org/index.html

But when you get right down to it, isn't that the case with all computerized RPGs, compared to really good PnP versions? A computer is fantastic at number-crunching and data retention, but nothing can replace the creativity, adaptability and interactions of a good human dungeonmaster.

...With the possible exception of King of Dragon Pass. ;)

Must... have... KoDP...Must...Recreate...Runequest...on...my...com puter...

And Baldur's Gate 2 did a great job of recreating Faerun. Torment was also a good Planescape version, except for the githzerai being so weird for no real reason.

Heh. The thing about KoDP is that by using a hybrid turn-based RPG/strategy system, its developers were able to create a remarkably in-depth game of leading a Runescape tribe. The closest thing to it that I've seen elsewhere are the old PC-based KOEI products such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nobunaga's Ambition, Balor of the Evil Eye, etc. (I know some of these are still being developed on other platforms, but I'm not.) Where KOEI games focused on highest level management of land, combat and diplomacy, though, KoDP forces you to deal with a variety of day-to-day issues on the ground. The idea of throwing in more than 500 revolving plots (with 4-6 decisions you have to make, a piece) was a great idea, since it made the game feel more real, less abstract.

Do check it out on A-Sharp's homepage, if you can.
