It's that bloody CD Drive error on my 486: Sometimes the IDE bootup (while Win95 executes Config.sys/AutoExec.bat) looks like this: 1@.*7
(Where the @ and * are replaced with 2 way different characters), and that means that E: will show Audio CD instead of any other CD in the drive (for example, I have Win95 CD in it, it shows Audio CD instead), and I open E: and it shows 21 Audio tracks (1 KB each), comaparied to the reported 1.99 GB it says on Explorer. In additon, since the tracks are non-existant, it's obvious they arn't gonna play. but SOMETIMES the comp doesn't do the Audio CD glitch (or whatever it is..), and reports the correct CD. Another thing to the problem is in DOS, when the problem has already happened (this sometimes happens too if I select option 5 on the bootup menu/ restart in DOS), E: cannot read. Anybody know how to fix this???

Your drive seems to be breaking down.
Have you tried getting a new one? They are quite cheap nowadays.

New drive is the only good otion I had one that nearly did the same thing execpt half the time it would not even read any CD let alone burned ones for some of the first cd burners like a friend had.

Then that's definitely the cause. My drives usually didn't last longer then 3-4 years.
