ran into some bad trouble the other day @ school

Background Info:
I use dial up, therefore I use my 120 meg flash drive to ferry things home from school.

Problem:
Downloaded file size 256MB, tried to split into 100MB files so they would fit on the flashdrive. The problem encountered is that no matter how I change the number in the split box, I only get 1KB archives.....you know how many 1KB archives I had in 1 file???? It nearly crashed the computer when I tried to delete it.

Knowledge Needed:
How do I split the files into 100MB archives?

:help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

Ouch that happened to me once, when i tried to split a 6 Mb file, so i can imagine spliting a 120 Mb file :blink: :blink:

nono, I would have been lucky if that was the case. I split a 256MB file into 1KB archives...on a 5 gig hard drive....with a 500Mhz processor....64MB RAM

Catch my drift? LOL

Try Total Commander. I find it very good. Splitting 21 MB game to, like, fifteen 3,5' disks... these were the times...

Sounds like you did a clasic misstake...

The input-window in winrar sais the size in BYTES...

so.. 100 MB = 100.000.000 Bytes..

Only if 1 KB = 1000 B, but it's not. :)

1KB = 1024B
1MB = 1024KB

I know, but since he ended up with 1 KB archives, that seems to have been the problem.

100 MB = 104.857.600 B
100.000.000 B = 95,3 MB

100.000.000 B = 100 MiB

MiB as million. :)

I agree, that seems the problem.

Did you know that hard disk makers use 1000 instead of 1024? :)
