What do you think of it ? For me it's an improvement as I still want to finish a few episodes of duke3d. |
I've tried it and that about being better and much more optimized and faster, is a true claim. It also has improved compatibility. A couple of games that ran slow or didn't run at all with previous versions now run and they run faster if they ran before. However I haven't tried it extensively, I've actually tried only that couple of problematic games. I'll see how it plays in general as soon as possible.
But for example Privateer ran well with 0.65 but I had to set it to 10,000 cycles during stays in bases because at higher cycles it was choppy, but then during flight I had to set it to around 30,000. Now in 0.70 I can just rely in its automatic cycle setting engine, the game runs well both in stays and flight. Actually DOSBox sets the cycles always to max, in 0.65 that would cause choppy music and response during stays, but now the performance is good at all times so the machine emulation has improved. There were a couple of games that needed different cycles settings at different times of play, especially the Wing Commander series that I know of needed higher cycles when there were more enemies around, but produced bad performance if you let that settings when there were less. I'm pretty sure these games will play all right now without the nuissance of changing the cycles. I also tried a very old game just in case, the original version of Sid Meier's Pirates! At first the output was screwed up, but LOADFIX did the trick. |
well, it's done the trick for discworld 1+2 at full speed with good sound quality :P. it also runs screamer very well :)

Yesterday I tried Immortal and Reunion in DB0,7. With the auto setting at first.
Immortal worked. But I didn't like it so I quit. Reunion almost immediately crashed. LOL By now doesn't seem that much of a difference. (But hey - what do you expect from a 0.05 upgrade of a program that hasn't reached release 1) ;) |
The auto mode set the cycles at a couple of thousands for Blackthorne and it wasn't enough. So I no longer think it's a great idea to rely on it but hey that's the same as before. Still it's great if you don't have to change the cycles within the same game as before.

BTW. If I download DB0.70, how can I install it? Do I have to delete the old version first, or what? |
I'm tryng to using 0.7 i've setted auto in the core settings but if I set auto in the cycles a game like
One Must Fall has a choppy (I hope is the right word) music.... with 10000 cycles is better, but not really good. someone have suggestions? Thank to all Runner |
