Moosix - Cakewalk Professional 4.0E for DOS

Sorry, this is not really a game, and in some ways somebody could perceive it as oldwarez... but it really is abandoned by Twelve Tone Systems (now Cakewalk); they don't sell or in any way acknowledge their glorious DOS past. From what I understand, THEY don't even have it anymore.

It has taken me years to track this down; I bought a boxed copy from a garage sale, which is the only one I've seen, ever! Please help keep it available. This is Cakewalk Professional 4 for DOS, the last version (the last Cakewalk 4 for DOS before Cakewalk 5 for DOS, that is).

There's also the less usable 3.0:

OK, sounds nice... and sounds abandoned. I'm just not sure is it for abandonia.

Although we do have some software which may not exactly be called games (like Peter Pan and Robin Hood Fairy Tale Factory), those are still entertaining programs, close to games... if one can even tell the line after which game is not considered a game anymore... however, this Cakewalk Professional seems to be simply for music and as the name states - for professionals. No little cute program that teaches us music and makes it easier with fun, but serious program for those who want to work with MIDI.

On one hand, I like preserving, that is why we are here. On the other hand, I'm not sure that this belongs here. I will ask for opinions of others.

I'd also like to preserve this kind of software, as well as games for other platforms besides PC, but I'm afraid we're not currently in that business :(

Am I right in assuming this is what you're offering?

This is first a request and an offer second, I think we should move it to the (rejected) Requests board?

That kind of software should also be preserved.

I know it is not exactly what this site is about - but it's still about abandonware...

What about a special "category" for it?
Or -as an alternative- the "tools" section could be expanded?

I was under the impression that the site was against utilities since the request section FAQ explicitly forbids it. Though I'm sure there's some kind of loophole with 3D Construction Kit/Virtual Reality Studio since the first one allows for game creation

What I meant was the "Programs and Utilities" section.

Not all of those are directly related to gaming.
Useful also for gaming, but not only for / limited to gaming.

The criterion to be in that list is for an utility to be useful to run old games, together with the requirement to be free or abandonware itself; it's not to be abandonware only. Expanding that list without bounds would beat the purpose of making it a useful selection of useful utilities.

I'd love Abandonia to host non gaming abandonware, as well as abandonware games for any platform, but in my opinion we have 99 things to fix before we can think of stuff like that.
