Here's a little story told by a sad little pumpkin.

Enjoy :sneaky:

troop18546 31-10-2005 08:54 AM

Uhh yeah... Thanks. Too bad I don't celebrate it.

Bobbin Threadbare 31-10-2005 09:51 AM

The sound cuts off at 'You know why it makes me sad.' so, I didn't get spooked at the end. That's what it looks like happened.

TheChosen 31-10-2005 09:55 AM

Eeeh...Okay....

Anyway, Happy Halloween!

Danny252 31-10-2005 09:56 AM

LOL, I got bored with it and closed it just as the end bit happened.

Halloween, halloween???

Happy Reformation Day, you mean :D

But seriously, halloween wasn't not really celebrated in the Netherlands (neither is Reofrmation day btw) but the last couple of years we seem to be doing everything 'the American way' around here (right up to the war in Iraq and cutbacks on social security unfortunately :( )... More and more people tend to celebrate it... Commercialism if you ask me, just like the jolly old fat Santa Claus :not_ok:

Doubler 31-10-2005 02:19 PM

I'll take Sinterklaas over Santa any day. The old fake... :P

Anyway, happy Halloween, Reformation day or monday to all :)

Sebatianos 31-10-2005 02:23 PM

Well about christmas, I remember there's an all around christmas church in Amsterdam - where they celebrate christmas every day (at least there was one when I visited), and for the 'american' way - Halloween is an old Celtic tradition - the day of all saints (tomorrow) was a christian holyday set up on this day in order for people to forget about the old celtic tradition of Samhain (just like they chose Christmas and Easter as celebration calebrated at the times of other pagan days). So it's not americanised - it's returning to pre-christian tradition, but people are confusing thing (especially if they can party and act crazy, they won't care what the tradition say).

I believe that would be St. Patrick's day? LOL

Anyways, Happy Halloween all!

Sebatianos 31-10-2005 02:45 PM

St. Patrick, St. Martin (that one's coming up on the 11th of November - the patron of wine - it's a drinking holyday), St. Nick's (6th of December), Cinco de Mayo (it's becoming more and more popular world wide as well), Shrovetide (the Carnival), 1st of May, New Year's Eve, April Fool's, Oktober beer fest,... people just want to have an excuse to have fun!

Tulac 31-10-2005 02:53 PM

I'd say it's pretty Americanized, with all the candy and pumpkins and hollywood movies advertising it, I mean it might have it's root in some old tradition but it's Americanized...

Anyway, we made this holiday (and many others) our own, but I still have fun :w00t:

Sean 31-10-2005 04:55 PM

Already ignored the first kids that came knocking.. my mum feels guilty she forgot to pick up some sweets at the supermarket :D

troop18546 31-10-2005 05:20 PM

Why not steal the candy the kids already have when they come to your house? :D

Reup 31-10-2005 05:30 PM

Damn kids. There were like 20 of them in front of the house yelling 'Halloween'. It's even a cheap rip-off from the original 'Trick or treat'. They're not dressed up or anything :( THey just kept on yelling and I finally threw six mandarins in their face and got the hell out of there... Brrr... I feel violated :(

Damn Konsumterror

A. J. Raffles 31-10-2005 06:25 PM

Kids aren't even allowed on college grounds unless somebody signs them in at the lodge. Aren't I lucky?^_^

Danny252 31-10-2005 06:56 PM

Noone here can be bothered to do it. Too many hills, too few houses.

We've only just finished Halloween, and you're thinking about Christmas :xmas: already?

:tomato:

TheGiantMidgit 01-11-2005 03:40 AM

I figured it would be nice to disrespect Christmas and the deceased, respectfully. ...or not so respectfully.

I did that once. I put in a lollipop and I ake out about five lollies. Stupid kid. He didn't even notice. We don't get many halloweeners anymore. Despite the fact that I live in Australia and this's an American tradition.

As for that Extreme Pumpkins site. That Jack-O-Lantern maker is mad! Just whack at it like a hammer on a huge stick. Click on really fast pumpkin from the main page.

Halloween Is Over BUT The Evil Hasn't Passed!!!

LOL!

punch999 01-11-2005 01:00 PM

umm holloween isnt a american tradition it was origionally a pagan holiday!

Reup 01-11-2005 01:37 PM

That was allready mentioned. There was also mentioned that the Americans commercialised it rather a lot. And it was also mentioned that former non-Halloween-celebrating countries are copying the holyday 'American Style' (i.e. pretty bad if you ask me).

moogle 01-11-2005 11:41 PM

So, anybody have any pics they want to share?
How much candy did you get if you went trick or treating?
How long were u out at them wild partys?
How was the TV special if you were at home?

Still is. Though "pagan" is too generic. Pagan usually refers to any polytheistic or pre-Christian religion, though there are many differences among them. Samhain (pronounced SOW-en) is often celebrated among Celtic-leaning pagans, and that's the direct ancestor of All Hallows Eve, which in turn became Halloween.

Danny252 02-11-2005 03:21 PM

Aah, the joys of shropshire.. too many hills, so more sweets :P
