So I realize the ESA is being a jerk and blah blah blah, but didn't we have special permission from Sierra to host their games? Because the ESA is pissed, does that really mean the permission from Sierra is screwed as well?

Edit: Also, according to the ESA members list, Sierra Entertainment is not on there. Which company owns those rights if Sierra is not a member of the ESA? If no company on that list does, then why can the ESA tell us to remove those games, if they are, in fact, NOT protected by the ESA? |
Sierra is now owned by Vivendi Universal Games, so it does fall in that list unfortunately.
I sent them an email expressing my concerns for whatever thats worth. You guys should probably do it too... maybe they might listen a bit. |
Someday...theyle take all the abandonware games from us!
Maybe they even take every freeware game from us. |
until that time, enjoy this site ;) and reloaded of course!
|
They can't take anything from us. Forbidding Abandonia from hosting it does not take it away.
And this dumb situation where the actual company that produced the games gives consent to host them, but this consent gets overridden by the power of some greedy hollow organization that has had absolutely nothing to do with those games (or any games for that matter) is a very good example of why the anti-oldwarez policy is very hypocritical. |
I think offering old games that aren't produced anymore free to the public is the perfect way to get cheap, positive advertising for your company. People can experience the quality of your games, plus it gives the company a more positive image. But I guess I'm just another kind of marketeer .

I was surprised by the fact that they were taking away Betrayal at Krondor.
Wasn't that game released for free by sierra a couple of years ago to promote the release of Antara? (Actually, it might have been RTK, I can't remember). And, did ESA give a substantial reason as to why the did not want the games on the site in the first place (I.E. The companies were intended to release another one of those game packs). |
