medieval strategy

Hi, looking for a game, following details, hope anyone can help:

During the 1990's I played a strategy game where you built buildings but from a front 2D look "per screen". Once you built a building a "wooden cover" appeared while the building was built or being upgraded. It was magic/medieval based so you had your scorcerers, fighters etc.

Units were spawned systematically by the buildings but you had no direct control over the units themselves. Per screen you could set a priority on magic/fighter/economy or similar options using a pyramid like selector.

The map was divided into screens and on each screen you could build 1-4 buildings depending on their size and granted that you have control (a unit) on that screen.

If I remember correctly there were a few races but not sure if you could play as different ones. The main idea behind the game was to correctly assign priorities to the right screen to ensure enough forces went to the right screens.

The main thing I can remember however is the wooden covers that appear when you build or upgrade a building :)

Hope anyone can help...

Can it be Stronghold?

That is definitely it, just recently played it.

The pyramidal selection as well as no control over the fighting units are a dead giveaway. It is indeed Stronghold. No doubts about it.

Smiling Spectre should get credit for this one. No point waiting for the thread starter to show himself again.
